Perfectly Peaceful 8/2/2010

I stayed in cabin Storm King with my dear friend, her huband and their two teenagers for 3 nights. On our first morning we watched a young bald eagle watching us, then enjoy the playtime of otters in the lake, Douglas squirrels, birds galore and cheerful chipmunks. We unanimously agreed that we'd have to come back for a week. It truly is a wonderful and peaceful place. The owners are lovely and friendly people and our cabin was the perfect lovely-rustic and very comfortable. more

Use to be cozy and nice 8/28/2007

No DOGS allowed anymore, and the prices have skyrocketed. No longer the nice cozy, rustic inexpensive cabins we use to enjoy. They probably charge you to carve your name in the driftwood guestbooks in Christie Cottage. Oh well I have some fond memories of my first stay there, not so fond of our second stay. more

Funky, Rustic, Relaxed, and Cheap with a great view 7/19/2005

I like to rent cottages for weekend getaways with my puppy and an occasional friend. I have some trouble finding what I like because, for me, the cottage *is* the destination. I'm not going to X location for the food or the tourist attractions, I'm going to get away from the madding crowd and relax by the water with a good book. I'm going to enjoy a little closeness and conversation with a friend by the fire. So I want my cabin to have just the right amount of character and space, and not too many amenities. I don't want a TV or a phone, and I'll bring my own music, thanks. I do want a full kitchen -- meaning a sink, a stove/oven, and more than a mini-fridge, and a reasonable assortment of pots/pans and dishes. Lochaerie Resort has all the things I need, plus a funky, character-loaded atmosphere. Some cabins are too small for my liking, but others are just right. The managers are a little too hands off, and occasionally appear to be intoxicated by something -- maybe just the sun and the water and the fresh air, maybe something more -- but overall, of all the cottages I've rented in WA, these are my favorite. And as an added bonus, they're right on Lake Quinault, are in the middle of a rain forest, and are only 30 miles from the WA coast beaches. more
