Dirty / Poor Service 6/27/2009

Dirty – not a good quality in a sushi place I used to love going to Bluefin, but it's been going steadily downhill, and after this last time, I don't think I'll ever go again. I ordered a beer, and it came with a glass that was filthy. I poured the beer in without inspecting the glass and looked down and there were all kinds of particles floating in the glass and the sides of the glass had caked on stuff. Okay, not appetizing, but anyone can make a mistake in the washing process, so I ask the waitress for a new glass after we confirm the added "ingredients." She then proceeds to come back with another glass, which turns out to also be filthy, and makes no offer to do anything about the half of the bottle of beer that she took away the first time (maybe you could bring a fresh one?). When I point out the caked-on stuff on the second glass, she mumbles something about how where the glasses come from its dark so she couldn't see. At this point I ask her to take it away, and set about the task of eating my raw fish, thinking all the while away about the dark corner where the knives that cut said raw fish may or may not have been cleaned. Lovely. At the end of the meal, the waitress tells us how she totally got them to take the beer (of which I drank none) off the check. Thanks! Glad to know you're deeply concerned with doing right by your customers. Not sure I trust this place on basic hygiene any more, and the service was abysmal (surely you can produce ONE actually clean glass, after a customer complains about a dirty glass). Quality of the food is mediocre, and the prices aren't low enough warrant to potential food-borne illness. Next time, I'll pass. more

Good Sushi, Good Prices 5/18/2006

Blue Fin often has quite a wait for dinner later in the week, but put your name in and poke around the shops in Porter Exchange. The sushi here is tasty and you should note the specials, like fatty tuna or spider rolls, on the dry erase board. The seaweed salad (all seaweed) is tasty, and they also have standards like shumai and teriyaki for the less exotic palates. Not a lot of ambience but this has improved some with the takeover of the former flower shop nextdoor. more

Fresh Sushi, Good Service 3/19/2006

Bluefin wasn't much for atmosphere until it recently took over the old flower shop space. Now it finally has a corner to enhance its fresh sushi and curry plates. As another reviewer noted, lots of Japanese customers here which is always a good sign. Daily specials with some unusual twists. Also your basic curry plates (Japanese style with brown gravy), teriyaki fish and meat, and beer, wine and soda. A good dinner place with friends or a date who won't mind the clamor. A very long wait during dinner hour later in the week and especially on weekends. Leave your name in and poke around Kotobukiya across the hall. more

sushi anyone 1/17/2006

This restaurant specializes on sushi. They are really crowded, you have to wait since they did not take reservation. The sushi are fresh, and they just make when you order it. This place is expensive however compare to other restaurant, this one is still okay. Great place for a great sushi, what else can you ask for ? more

great sushi, no fuss 8/3/2005

My husband and I were happy to discover Blue Fin in the Porter Square exchange. The place is nothing stylish or highly decorated, but it serves very good and honest sushi, the service is fairly quick, and the prices are reasonable for sushi. You always know you came to the right place if a lot of the other customers are Japanese. The small downside is that on popular nights there can be a bit of a wait, and I don't think they take reservations. But with just 2-3 people, I've never had to wait long anyway. more

sushi sushi sushi 7/15/2005

I have been to a couple of sushi resturants but this one i would recommend. But first if you want to eat in and get out, don't bother. The wait is so loooong. Sometimes i wait and think it's not really worth it but since the prices are low, i guess it is worth it if you're poor like me. more

Fantastic Inexpensive Sushi 4/13/2005

Blue Fin is probably the best sushi restraurant that we've tried on the Cambridge side of the river. As an added bonus, it is also one of the least expensive. The sushi is fresh, delectable and enjoyable. The service is quick and friendly. The biggest downside with Blue Fin is that it is very popular and they don't take reservations. Waits can easily last well over 45 mins. The Porter Exchange Mall is not much of a mall at all, but it does have a number of Asian eateries, including a Pearl Tea stand and an Asian grocer. Parking is easy at the lot behind the building and costs $1-2 with validation. more
