Herb Farm 11/16/2007

I know this place is wildly popular, and I won't be for this post--but--I honestly wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. The atmosphere really was lovely and the food was okay, but this is what really did it for me. One of the courses included a piece of lamb. This was okay by me, but for personal reasons, I didn't eat mine. Much to my surprise, the proprietor came out and proceeded to scold me for not eating this piece of meat. I explained my reason and she went on to tell me how delicious it was and that I really should at least taste it. It seems to me that if I am the paying customer (and the bill wasn't cheap), I should be able to decide what I will and won't eat. I won't be going back--that is for sure! more

If you can spend 200 a meal, Herb Farm is well worth it. 3/27/2006

My two favorite restaurants around is Herb Farm and Mistral. They have different themes and I went during Halloween. They pair each course with wine and when it starts to look empty, they pour more!!! I can see why alot of people stay at Willows Lodge afterwards. The food, wine and service was A+. more

What to do for the ultimate foodie experience 2/11/2006

This place isn't a restaurant it is an experience. Make sure you go with someone you really love or with a group you can talk to for six hours because the meals take that long. Each dish in this prix fixe menu is astoundingly inventive and always changing. This is not the faint of heart, but for folks who can appreciate new and interesting flavors all the time. When we went for instance, the between dish refresher wasn't a traditional salad, but instead we had a tomato foam. A flavor richness I can still remember. As the name suggests, everything is about fresh herbs and great flavors. I highly suggest, you book a room at the Willows for afterwards since you'll be drinking the perfectly matched wine for hours through the night. Reservations are nearly impossible to get, but try it for that ultra special occasion with folks who appreciate rich inventive and even fun flavors and cooking. more

10 courses anyone 7/14/2005

Yes the Herbfarm is a Jewel unlike any other. You are wined and dined with the most exotic foods in the northwest! Many grown right there. Its downright charming and while its quite pricey(200+ dollars pp).. its really not for all that you are getting. I mean you are being fed and cared for for 4-5 HOURS!!! You will try many wines and lots of great food. Great ambiance. An amazing feast for all senses. more

Save Your Appetite For This 7/12/2005

First off, don’t wear anything body hugging, even if you are a size four. There’s a good chance that nine courses, accompanied by sparkling wine, five paired wines, a snifter of Madeira, and an assortment of decedent desserts are likely to alter your silhouette toward the latter part of the four and half hour dining excursion. But, it’s worth it. Okay, nine courses does sound scary, but it doesn’t warrant transcendence to the Roman vomitariums. This is the ultimate in portion control, offering micro-sized servings that deliver the right amount of punch to enjoy the thoughtfully balanced flavors designed by hailed chef, Jerry Traunfeld. The menus are seasonally themed; I happened upon Chef Traunfeld’s reverence of the root. From my understanding, all of the roots and culinary herbs served are organically grown in the backyard, with the exception of the famed Italian white truffle, which was shaved into demi-glace and served under grilled foi gras. And, yes, it lives up to its insanely inflated rock star status. The highly anticipated first course Preceding each course, Chef Traunfeld briefly introduced the dishes and any peripheral information of interest, and then turned the talk over to his sommelier, who discussed the wine pairings. The takeaway was a smattering of culinary education and a multitude of impressive, pleasurable dishes. End to end, the experience was memorable. more
