Discovery Place is a great place to take the family. I had heard from a number of people that this was a great science museum and they nailed it. It was great. The whole family had a lot of fun here. They have hands on exhibits, a planetarium, the Omnimax Theatre and more. Your children will be having so much fun they will actually forget they are learning something while visiting here. I would recommend visiting here if you haven’t already. more

Family fun and entertainment 8/14/2005

Discovery place in Charlotte is a good place to bring the children who are curious about science, anatomy. They will learn about chemistry with a show that lets the kids interact with the scientists. Their rate basket ball is pretty cool as well. At this moment they are having the Grossology and they can learn about all the stuff that gross them out. In the basement, there is a mini aquarium and enjoy electricity show near the exit. For the young kids, there is a place where they can play with water and get their face stamped. The cafetaria serves pizza, burgers and salads and are reasonably priced. If you are a frequent visitor, get the annual pass, which gives you admission to special events and 4 complimentary IMAX theater tickets. If you decide to go on the weekend, you can park either on the street or look for the free parking at certain parking houses. If you park at the Discovery Place parking lot, it might cost you around $8 to park your car more

Great fun for the whole family 7/12/2005

We've been members of the Discovery Place for 2 years now and it never gets boring. They have a kids place for younger children between the ages of 12 months to 6 years. It has a water table where they can dam up the water to hold back water and then flood the remaining table. Nature areas for them to crawl through, a barn to teach animal sounds, a "fossil" area to make and tons more JUST in the kids play area. Then there are the exhibit halls with a weather area showing how tornadoes are made, a gem and mineral area, an aquarium area with a touch pool, a rain forest with tropical birds and tortoises. That's just on the first floor. The second floor is the science floor, teaching kids how magnets work, levers, axles. They also have that floor the human body and it's organs. And every few months they have a new huge exhibit. Right now the exhibit it Grossology which teaches about the not so pleasant things the body does. A few months ago it was If These Walls Could Talk, which was about building structures. Before that it was the Dinosaur exhibit etc. There's a gift shop and snack area. Downstairs is an eating establishment. You can't go wrong at the Discovery Place. more

Keeping Up with the Times 7/11/2005

I first went to Discovery Place when I was in high school and wasn't that impressed. Now I have a 3-year-old and I took her last week. I was astonished at how much the place had changed and grown. The activities are almost all interactive, allowing kids to learn through different modalities. We were there for at least 3 hours and barely made a dent in the place. I'm glad we bought a membership so we can go back and explore some more. more
