Cramped for space but rich in information! 7/28/2005

For years I've been all but screaming at non-Mobilian friends that MOBILE not New Orleans started Mardi Gras. It is nice to be able to take them some where and PROVE it to them. This is not by any means a stroller friendly museum. But the donated court costumes are a thing to behold. It's worth a visit to the area. I love all the old pictures as well. And I found I wanted to celebrate Joe Cain Day this year... I never knew the whole story! A great little museum. Parking is easy. more

Mobile's Mardi Gras history all under one roof.. You can start at the front and follow the history all thru the years... Mobile was the first one to have Mardi gras.. New Orleans finally will admit it to us now.. We had it before the civil war, they had it afterwords.. anyway,...lol. This museum has past Mardi Gras Queens beautiful Ballroom gowns, they are really breath taking.. If there is anything you want to know about about Mardi Gras, there is no way you can go away from here without having a great understanding about Mardi Gras, no matter what part of the world you are from... The most interesting story they have is about Joe Cain, he brought about the peoples parade, for the people... It has turned out to be one of the biggest ones that parade.. Go by there and you will come out thinking you were born and raised in Mobile Mardi Gras Society... more
