This is the weirdest, coolest place I have ever visited and *totally* want to go back! Located in Santa Cruz, CA it's the only thing like it in the US. If I remember correctly there's one like it somewhere in India as well -- maybe one other spot in the world, but very rare.
It looks like a pretty non-descript place -- like a road side attraction for gullible tourists (yeah, well, I guess it kinda is!) but the difference with this place is that you can't figure it out!
It's in the woods and was discovered in 1940. Nothing about this place is normal. The ground you walk on is perfectly level, yet the house built on the property looks crooked. Crazy thing about a crooked house? Put a level down on one of the "crooked" rails and it registers level. Even crazier thing? Place a ball on that same rail and tap it and it will roll *up* the "crooked" incline. (!)
You can walk through the house and it's even weirder still; you can literally walk up the walls to the ceiling, via a ladder-type thing built onto the wall. I experienced it, I have photos, and I still can't believe it!
Our tour guide did this cool experiment with us. She picked six of us from the group (two happened to be me and my boyfriend), all varying heights -- the tallest being my BF. I have a "before" photo that shows me on the left with a woman shorter than me beside me (so the first in line) and our heights increased, ending with my BF; we were asked to stand on this log. She rearranged us so that my BF was on the left and our heights were *supposed* to be descending -- my "after" photo shows us all about the same height.
If you are taking a road trip to Cali any time soon, you *have* to check this place out! Here's the website http://www.mysteryspot.com/ for more information.
