Lovely for dinner and now cocktails too 1/22/2007

We went for dinner in early January with some other restaurant friends of ours and tried some of the new items on the menu. Pretty much everyone in our party of four enjoyed the cheese platter (appetizer) and we all definitely enjoyed the desserts but there were mixed reviews on the entrees. I learned that evening that most restaurants make their lamb dishes in advance and then just warm them to order. This usually results in a dish that is usually a little more done than most people prefer, particularly if you like rare to medium rare. The dish was still good but it wasn't to my friend's cooking preference. Overall though Stumbling Goat has provided exceptional experiences with regard to food. I'm a BIG fan of their roast chicken which has become a favorite for many of the locals up on Phinney Ridge, including me. Salads are tasty and the dressings never overwhelm the veggies included. Usually it's a nice pairing of lettuce, fruits, nuts, and/or cheeses depending on which salad you order. At this dining event I got the wilted arugula salad and it was good. more

just a delight 12/21/2006

The Stumbling Goat stands for something more than fresh quality fine dining. It stands for community, and supporting local farmers. The chef hand picks every ingredient fresh from local markets, he is passionate about his canvas of ingredients. You cant beat the food, and the atmosphere! My sensitive pallet was over joyed in the dining experience at the Stumbling Goat! more

Simply Spectactular 12/12/2006

Stumbling Goat was recommended by a friend that described the cuisine as 'seasonal', which didn't tell me anything other than the ingredients would be fresh. Their menu is based on food that is in season in Washington. It is a mix of French Bistro and New American cuisine. They regularly feature a Wagyu beef dish and have a some sort of local poultry. The food is simply spectacular. We had mussels and mini-Wagyu burgers as an appetizer. I had a leg of lamb over steamed bean shoots that was awesome. Others at our table enjoyed a braised beef and the rabbit. All the dishes were incredibly good. The interior was simple with a kind of nouveau-country feel. The service was great, appropriately timing the meal and allowing us to set the pace of the evening. more

A phinney ridge/greenwood eatery that RULES 4/10/2006

This place is a great date spot. It has live music, local food, and good wines. The staff is very friendly and konwledgable about their wines and food. They have exceptional deserts and desert wines. more

Stumbling goat: perfection 8/17/2005

I first read about the Stumbling Goat in the Seattle Weekly, and they loved it for its truly "Northwest" style of cuisine--local ingrededients, simply and perfectly employed, and in creative combinations. The menu is small--about 10 dishes total, and all of them a little work of art. The decure is sparse and tasteful, like the food, and the waitstaff was knowledgeable about the food, wine and beer they sell. Very Seattle without being trendy. more

Finally, outdoor seating!! 8/16/2005

I've lived in the neighborhood since just before they opened, and this place has always been my favorite. The only thing missing was some kind of outdoor seating and they finally got it! Every time I go I feel like I'm taking a cooking class. Everything is simple and just right. I'm no chef, but if I were, this is what I would make night after night! more

consistency in dining 8/13/2005

I've never had a bad dinner at the Stumbling goat. The sign of a good restaurant is one that has a minimalist menu, keeps it fresh, rotates the specials and has a b+ to a+ wine list. The goat knows what its good at and sticks to it. Just had an amazing desert there--sauted, brandy soaked peaches with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They recently added outdoor seating which is definitely a plus! Me likey! more

Mixed. 4/18/2005

The first time I didn't like it so much, the second time was one of the best dinners I have ever had. As mentioned before, the menu is fairly small and it sounds a bit hit or miss. But, when it's a hit you'll be very happy! more

Liked it better the first time... 9/10/2004

We went back and were disappointed. We simply couldn't find something on the menu that we were excited about (problem with a small menu) and we felt weird leaving so we just managed...but it was a bit disappointing- moreso in the choice than the quality of the meal. more

Terrific neighborhood restaurant! 7/8/2004

We went when they first opened and loved the food, but somehow forgot about them. We recently went back and were reminded what a great place this is - simple dishes, thoughtfully prepared; great, professional waitstaff; a cozy space (that has acquired a welcome patina since our first visit); and a fun local crowd. The style is pretty traditional euro-american, but everything is well executed and the ingredients are top-notch. Pricing is fair (entrees are in the $12-$20 range) and the wine list is short but good. Give them a try! more
