Editorial review from Citysearch 1/23/2013

I just spent the morning at Burn Fitness, while in town for business. What an amazing experience. I wish we had this clean, well equipped gym, with a friendly staff, in KC. They welcomed me with a smile, gave me a fresh workout towel, showed me the well appointed locker room and sent me on my way. \r \r I road a bike for 30 minutes while looking at the ocean and Hillary Clinton on msnbc. Then a quick weight training session where I found absolutely everything I need. \r \r Back to the front desk where the nice receptionist gave my a warm shower towel. I took a long, hot shower in the very clean stall, changed and was told, on my way, out ""have a great day"". \r \r If I ever move here, Burn Fitness is the place for me. Thank you for helping me start my day right. more

No ocean to be seen 12/31/2011

I was a gym member here for about 6 months It's clean, most of the machines are ""evo"" I have never seen them in any other gym and I have belonged to many along the years. That's is never a good thing. They might resemble equipment you have used in other gyms but that doesn't mean they'll work the same way. The parking is a nightmare and mission impossible after 6pm. They do validate, but you have to be so lucky to find a parking space first. there are many parking structures near by, but also crowds of people trying to park. Some of the classes are pretty good, but again, it's hard to get in, that is a small exercise room. Good place to work out if you are not claustrophobic, this is the smallest gym around, but most importantly if you don't have any complaints about the place or if you do have them, you better just keep them to yourself. I was asked to LEAVE by the owner, Tom Williams, because I politely informed , the manager and various staff about a weight machine malfunctioning for weeks. He interrupted my work out to corner me in between machines to whisper menacingly: ""If you are not happy here, you don't have to stay, I'm the owner, if you are not happy in my gym you don't have to stay"" and with that he escorted me out of the gym. But don't worry! Nobody else was disturbed, since he was so ""kind"" not to raise his voice so only I could hear him and I got a full refund of the days I didn't use that month, he was very good about the refund and prompt too since I was on my way out Yep! THAT is the OWNER'S idea of customer service! No ""sorry for the inconvenience, we'll take a look at it right away"" But if you don't like it, just GO AWAY already!! attitude The only reason I was working out there was because I could walk to the gym on my lunch break, I could cope with the, no name, no incline ellipticalls, intermittent audio on a good day video too but deal with a Big BULLY on top of that? No thanks! Not Happy at all! If I had purchased crappy machines for my impossibly small crammed gym, and attempted to CHARGE people to try to use them, the least I would try and do is ACT like I was the nicest person around, I'm not saying BE one, that's impossible in HIS case, but just try and pretend, give it a whirl, will ya? because crappy machines+crappy attitude, it's just a little too much to deal with. But, if YOU can deal with: --The lack of parking or if you just walk there, like I used to before I got kicked out for complaining about faulty equipment. --You actually like the machines that nobody knows where they come from but the staff insists in calling them ""state of the art"" --The dissapointment when you realize there is NO ocean view anywhere in between the buildings, is more like an ocean tease of a view, --Ocean breezes?........If you are on the top floor and the doors are open but then you also get the food smell from the restaurants downstairs.Hope you like chinese food aromatheraphy to go with your work out. --If one of your goals, was to work out while looking at the ocean, only if you position yourself strategically on the top floor facing just the right way, you'll catch a couple of inches of far, far away ocean, or if you bring your binoculars, maybe. and Then you just want to make sure to keep your mouth shut about any broken/malfunctioning equipment or you might just end up being escorted off the premises too. If you can manage the above, this might be the perfect place for you to work out but go see for yourself, they'll give you a free tour. I'm surprised they are still in business, not because the place is a very expensive ($80 a month) glorified rec-room but the complete lack of customer service, starting with the OWNER +Pros: It's clean -Cons: lack of parking, cheap equipment and in my experience, ZERO customer service. more

We love it. they Validate parking so u can park conviently at any of the Promanade Parking structures. there are restaurants to eat at after ur workout (sushi, Wolfgang Puck, etc). The club has new equipment with TVs in each elliptical &treadmill. (just Bring ur own headphones). In case u forget ur water, they have water to buy and if u don't have ur wallet, they will charge it to ur account--nice. They have sport drinks in a vending machine. Also they provide sweat towels. The only complaint we have is that the sound doesn't work on a few of the elliptical machines TVs. Doesn't look like they r keeping up the maintenance on couple of machines. The cup holders r missing, looks ratty. But 98%. of the equipment is excellent. Never a wait to use machines. And, good culture (no old men like the YMCA, and no staring men, not a pick up joint). We will b members for a long time. more

I see private clients and members at Skysport in Beverly Hills and here at Burn Fitness. Burn is nestled high above the 3rd St. Promenade in beachy and beautiful Santa Monica. You'll love training in this sleek, airy modern space with inviting Pacific breezes and stunning ocean views. Cub membership is not necessary to train with me, but let me know if you are interested in the best rate. Pros: It's gorgeous! Not crowded. You can train with the best! more

Best gym ever 4/30/2007

I am a huge skeptic when it comes to signing up for a gym membership, mainly because of my bad experiences with the larger chains (e.g., excessive sign up fees, confusing membership terms, no hand weights because they got stolen). Burn is the exact opposite. I was able to try them out by paying as I went for the low cost of $10, and after checking out their classes, and also working out during the usual busy times of the day (during lunch and between 5-7pm), I am so pleased that I have never had to wait in a line for cardio equipment, am usually the only person in the locker room, and have access to the most personable and knowledgeable trainers. It's possible that once their membership numbers increase all this could change, but at least I'm not locked into a contract. Pros: Not crowded, great amenities, personable and knowledgeable staff and trainers, no hard sales tactics, reasonable membership fees Cons: Wish they had a jacuzzi and pool. more

Best in town! 4/16/2007

I was over at The Easton Gym on the Promenade and then I found this gem of a gym a block down the street. Unlike Easton, Burn has no smelly carpet, new equipment, HD TVs everywhere, great looking locker rooms with tile floors and a steam room, free use of large shower towels, computers where you can check your email, a beautiful ocean and city view, and Burn will validate your parking in ANY of the 9 Santa Monica city structures on the promenade. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Pros: Great, high-tech gym. Cons: There isn't one in every city. more

Can't beat it! 4/2/2007

Best Fitness Club in LA 1/10/2007

Very Impressed all around. The club is very well maintained and the equipment is all brand new and up to date. There is never a large crowd when I am there and the locker rooms are very clean, which is very important to me. I took advantage of the complimentary training session and was amazed at how professional and knowledgeable my trainer was. He gave me great information about the FREE membership to their Fatburn website . Their prices are affordable and there is a no hassle contract. Very Impressed. Pros: scenery, pleasant staff, great classes and equipment, very clean more

CLEAN, Beautiful Gym with ocean view!! 1/10/2007

I walked into this gym and my jaw dropped. The locker room was super clean with stainless steal sinks, beautiful lockers and a nice size steam room. I took a Cardio Kick Boxing class in the main fitness room. The floor felt like springs! You could actually see the floor flex....so good on your joints. After the class, I took a breather out on their large patio that overlooks the promenade. Upstairs is enormous! Wonderful NEW equipment. Every cardio machine has a TV that is set in the console...really nice. Very friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend this gym. I got in at 80 bucks a month. The nice thing is that it is month to month and all the classes are included. A must see. Pros: Clean, New Equipment, High-Def TV's, Beautiful Facility more
