Embarassingly bad service. 11/19/2006

I love Burberry clothing for its classy but never stuffy style. However, the service at its SoHo outpost is quite something else. As the previous reviewer pointed out, the staff is unprofessional and downright rude. I have been there twice and bought sweaters there both times. Both times, I had extremely negative experiences. Both times, I waited in front of the cash register (because no one bothered to help me) for someone to ring up my purchase. The store was relatively empty on both occasions, but no one seemed like they wanted to help me with my purchase. The second time I was there, the salesman at the cash register never once looked me in the eye through the entire payment process. He gave me a mid-sized bag for my sweater and when I asked for a smaller one, he said it wouldn't fit. I asked for it anyway; he put the bag on top of the sweater and pushed both toward me. He had expected me to pack the sweater myself. I looked at it for a second and said, "Shouldn't you be doing this?" He looked a little taken aback, but finally packed it anyway and when he handed the shopping bag to me, didn't even say 'thank you'. I guess I could call up the store manager, but I think he was the older-looking man hovering around behind the cash register when I tried (in vain) to get someone's attention to ring me up, so I don't think there's a point in doing so. If you must shop at this store, put the staff in their place; you shouldn't have to put up with bad service at a designer clothes store. more

bad service 2/4/2003

Responding to the comment that they don't take goods back because they are being faked- well, if people in the store can't tell a fake from their own merchandise, then they are the ones with the problem. I agree with the other user- DO NOT PURCHASE AS GIFTS. Lots of times, I lose receipts, including gift receipts. Burberry should take back their own products and allow people to exchange for something else. Burberry store employees should be able to figure out whether the item is a fake. I have seen many fake Burberry items and I can tell right away that they are in fake. Why should anyone purchase the real thing if the fake looks exactly like it? The people at the store are snobby and not helpful- where is the customer service and satisfaction? I used to be a big Burberry shopper but not at this store. • The Scene
A trip through this tall store with small departments journeys from fragrance to kids' clothing to housewares, with many items more punchy and playful than the brand's stuffy reputation might suggest. Swingin' jazz sets a jovial mood as tourists account for snail's-pace foot traffic, but loyal fans rush straight to their preppy objects of lust. Mid-afternoon, upper-crust moms and kids hit the cafe for--no joke--cookies and milk, apples with peanut butter and even pureed baby food.

    The Goods
Signature plaid covers many products: loafers, bikinis, cozy throws and doggie totes. Other finds, however, are bright, eye-catching and unique. Black leather pillows have a subtle plaid stitch, a crisp button-down shirt sports metallic pink stripes and the whimsical men's tie collection shows the store at its best. The men's collection penthouse has the distinguished wood grain and tawny suede look of a gentleman's lounge--but it's more somber and intimidating.
