I moved to SA almost three months ago. This is the most convenient vet's office for me.
I went in two days after moving here and explained that I have two cats, one of whom is 15 and diabetic. I just wanted to ensure that I could buy his diabetic supplies there. Mind you, I have done this in Houston for YEARS with no problem whatsoever.
They said it wasn't an issue, just to have my cat's vet fax his records over. They sold me 2 boxes of syringes. I confirmed that food and insulin would not be a problem - they confirmed on the records and said it would not be an issue.
Now that I am out of food, I swing by to pick some up and am told I can't buy it. I have to see the vet. I say that they have all of his records and recount the conversation I had with them in August. Nope - they want to see my cat (office visit - $$$, glucose testing - $$$).
What a sham. My cat has had the same vet for 6 years and he went through HELL getting to the right insulin dose in the first place. I don't trust anyone else to mess with his meds. I explained this and they said that having him come in for a visit was important for them to ""establish a relationship with the patient"". I said I didn't want a relationship - I just needed to buy supplies. I already have a lovely relationship with my vet (who has me call her cell at any time day or night if I ever have a problem).
As an FYI, I can buy both his prescription cat food and his insulin online, but this takes a few weeks' planning so that I don't run out in between. I feel they misled me and that they are only interested in making money rather than building a solid reputation and good relationship within the community. Not somewhere I would EVER take my beloved cat. I've already spent thousands and thousands on him - this is not about money. It's about his safety, health, and well-being. I feel they have jeopardized that by leaving me without his supplies when they told me months ago everything was in order.
