Hands down my fav place to go for a drink in NYC. Cute boys, beautiful rustic bar and fun drinks. I met my boyfriend there 2 years ago and am still completely obsessed! Pros:...

I live in the area and the place is a great disapointment. Lots of under aged people on weekends, while weekdays it has a very basic crowd from the sticks. I feel that there ...

Great Sangria Carafes 9/25/2008

Great little bar with cool atmosphere - not a lot of seating so we were lucky to get a table out front on the sidewalk. Bar is very busy and it is hard to get drinks so I would recommend table service. Our server was nice and attentive. Pros: Great Sangria Carafes Cons: Small, crowded more

Lived up to expectation 4/10/2008

Well after reading some good reviews on this bar and living only a few blocks away I had to try it out, and I've got to say it lived up to expectation. I've never met friendlier barstaff and that's always a good start. The atmosphere in there is really cool and I'm definately going back there and have already recommended it to a few friends. Prices are the same as anywhere else in the area. Pros: Restroom doors and the barstaff more

an east village gem 4/8/2008

It's not often that you come across a bar as great as this East Village gem. I've been six or seven times now and each time it never fails to disappoint. The vibe is upbeat at the weekends, and warm and relaxed during the week. You can saddle up to the bar to meet Bua's loyal regular customers and friendly bar staff, or chill out in the lounge area at the other side of the bar. I've discovered many a great new band listening to the music they play - which is easily the best I've heard at any bar. There's a great selection of beers and cocktails, and if you're feeling picky you can choose from a very simple but amazing menu (the grilled ham & cheese is my favorite. What really sets Bua apart however, is the people. You are always guaranteed a friendly crowd that will chat, bend elbows, and share their stories. Many a friendship has been struck up over a beer at this East Village gem. Come see for yourself! Pros: People, Vibe, Staff more

Great food, great beers, great people! 4/7/2008

This is a great place for a night out, but get there early because it is popular! All the staff are really friendly, even the doorman (but bring ID as they check). The snacks are lip-smackingly delicious, and they have a great selection of beers (mine's the Pacifico), spirits, etc. The clientel are late 20's, and 30's, and the cosy space means you end up chatting to loads of random but like-minded people.\r All in all, this is one of the funnest spots to visit in the evening, whether it is a weeknight or weekend. more

BEST BAR 4/7/2008

The best bar in town! I had my birthday drink celebrations there recently and had a blast. The staff were warm and friendly, the music was great, the drinks were flowing, what more could a birthday girl ask for!\r \r The food cannot be forgotten either, we ordered some pork sliders half way through our jolly night and they were a melt in the mouth treat. We only found out after we had gobbled them that all the ingredients were local!\r Bua has a real feel good factor and this little gem situated in the hub of St Marks Place is always a joy to visit! \r \r more

Great Pork Sliders!! 4/7/2008

I've been a big fan of Bua for a while and love nothing better than going for a few drinks and chilling out in this cool East Village spot. I have often found myself wishing that I didn't have to leave to go for dinner. Well as luck would have it my wish has been granted as Bua are now serving the best Pork sliders I have ever tasted. Not sure I'll ever have to leave this place now.... Pros: Great bartenders, Pork sliders and Music Cons: None that I can see more

Ideal ""bar next door"" 4/7/2008

Located on St.Marks Street, Bua is a great hangout for people looking for a layback experience. It's also a great place for visitors interested in exploring the East Village and discovering another great area of NYC. The staff is friendly, the clientele is mature (average 30s) and it's a great place to sample beer. Grill cheese sandwiches a must! \r Pros: Atmosphere, patio more

Perfect Local Bar 4/6/2008

Not sure what Mary East is talking about. Bua is a great find. I drink here during the week and at weekends. The crowd is great, mostly locals, the playlist spot on and the service friendly and genuine. A great bar. more

Avoid Bua. Strange place. 3/18/2008

I live in the area and the place is a great disapointment. Lots of under aged people on weekends, while weekdays it has a very basic crowd from the sticks. I feel that there is something strange going on behind the scenes. Watch out. Pros: not much can be said about this place Cons: Feels criminal! more

Cool spot 1/11/2008

a very special place 4/20/2007

I dont typically review bars but felt the need after visiting this very special place. i stumbled accross bua a few weeks ago as i was wondering around the east village, and i'm so glad that i found this little gem. i dropped in for a beer late in the afternoon and ended up staying there for the evening. this bar is total bliss. cute friendly staff chatted to me with a genuine interest in my life, and served me up some great drinks. cool tunes hummed in the background as friendly regulars poped in and out to grab a drink and say hello. the decor is amazing... candles in every little nook about the bar, exposed brick walls and a warm and welcoming vibe make this place just right. bua i was told is the gaelic word for victory... a very fitting name for this treasure of a bar. take it from me - make this place your regular. it's an absolute gem. Pros: great staff, drinks, music and atmosphere Cons: none. this place is perfect. more

Cool venue 10/26/2006

Went late on a Thursday night and had an awesome time. The reviews are true - very friendly place, decent 'craic'.\r Pros: Atmosphere, late night more

Fabulous 8/18/2006

I hadn't been to 122 St. Mark's since Jeff Buckley was clubbing around the Lower East Side and Bua was Sin-e. But my recent visit here reminded me warmly of those amazing times. Of course, more than a few changes have been made since that time, but all good ones, and they create a cozy atmosphere. I wasn't lucky enough to come when anyone was playing music, which I hear they do at times, but I can definitely see how this place would be ideal for that. It's small and cozy and the bartender was sweet and friendly. I really had a great experience. It's a shame Jeff isn't here today to play here. Anyway, it's a fabulous bar, you should definitely take a look. I live in New York but it was such an adorable place I felt the need to take pictures! :) Try it! Pros: Atmosphere, cozy cafe feel Cons: a little crowded at night & on weekends, max occupancy is 74, place is a bit tight. but well worth it. more

Great Place Period 7/12/2006

I've been wetting my whistle here for the past year or so and I this place is among my favorites. Great (although limited) beer selection, good happy hour prices, excellent Irish bartenders, and low light. Not too many places in the city that provide a laidback atmosphere and play indie rock. A great place for a small group looking to drink before hitting up a more trendy scene or great for a happy hour drink. Of course an occasional tourist will come by - this is NY. What do you expect? Pros: Music, Bartenders, Atmosphere more

great neighboorhood bar 6/14/2006

low key, good drinks, great outside area... Just a nice, normal local bar in the midst of so many hipster, trendy east village bars... Pros: local Cons: little bit of a bottleneck at the door more

Great find 2/21/2006

Friend who lives above this place brought me here. Hadn't been in it since days when it used to be that pricey wierd winebar. It is a great bar now. Laid back, not too loud music, nice people at bar. Felt like everyone knew each other. Very inviting. love the candle-light and brick walls. Got drunk on the Sangria..! Will be back Pros: Friendly locals, Big windows, Sangria more

Great times at Bua! 2/20/2006

I've been frequenting Bua for a while now and it never grows old. There's always a friendly face behind the bar. Midweek the clientelle is easygoing and the atmosphere relaxed. At weekends the bar filles up and the crowd is energetic and upbeat. Whatever the night - its always a great place to meet new people. The space itself is incredible and the music is great. You wont regret paying Bua a visit. Like me ... you'll be back! Pros: Good Drinks, Great crowd, Great music more
