Best

Great Staff, Great Food, Great Prices! After a horrible experiece at the 77th St location... this location was a pleasant surprise! Will definately go back again!

Worst

The food isn't too bad but the price really creeps up on you. Pretty busy but the staff did a good job getting you your drinks on time. A little too young (unless you're about 2...

Reminds me of Growing up in the South! 6/25/2010

My cousin brought me here last summer after I moved to NYC from Florida. They were playing country music and I was instantly reminded of home! Whenever I'm craving some fried, southern food I head there. Pros: Good food, Good prices, Nice Staff Cons: Not the best place if you're trying to diet! more

Top 10 BBQ in the city 4/4/2010

I heard a lot about Brother Jimmy's before I tried it recently. I heard the service was terrible and the atmosphere was a little like a frat house. I ended up sitting at the bar to try their ribs so I really can't comment on the waitstaff. The bartender was very friendly and made some great drinks. The ribs were also above average for the city but the sides were nothing earth-shattering. I know Brother Jimmy's makes a lot of people's Top Ten List for BBQ joints in the city and it would make mine as well for the ribs but it's hard to give it a complete review since I was only there once and ate at the bar. I would go back to try their pulled pork and brisket since the atmosphere was not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It's a fun place with good ribs. Pros: Ribs, bartender more

Great Experience 2/23/2009

Great Staff, Great Food, Great Prices! After a horrible experiece at the 77th St location... this location was a pleasant surprise! Will definately go back again! more

Rude Staff 4/24/2008

I don't want to speak for the whole staff, because there are a few nice bartenders. But there is a new waitress that was HORRIBLY rude to myself and my friends for no apparent reason. I don't reccommend going there on Thursday nights. Pros: $2 Beer on Thursdays Cons: Rude staff more

Good food, terrible service 1/5/2008

I was warned about the service before I went in, so I knew it would be slow, even though it wasn't that full for a Friday evening in the back room. We did have to wait a long time, but the food was good (though I like Famous Dave's BBQ Sauce on Long Island better). But, when we asked for the check, we were charged $66 - and all the two of us had had was an $8.50 sandwich and $3 PBR each, and shared a slice of pie! So that obviously wasn't right (it was another table's receipt, with a $25 pitcher of beer and other stuff), and eventually we were able to catch the waitress's attention to bring us the right check, though it took forever. When she finally did bring it, it then had a $2.50 Coke on it that we didn't order, but we decided to pay for it to hold onto our sanity and not wait another eternity for her to take it off. If you're already in the area and like BBQ, sure, go for the food, but be prepared to wait forever, even if it's not that busy, and check your receipts! Pros: good food, ok prices Cons: very very slow service, wrong check more

Good Stuff 9/24/2007

I go to the NYSC across the street from Jimmy's and order take out one day. I ordered the bbq sampler where i chose 3 types of ribs and 2 sides (fire fries and mac and cheese) I got the artichoke dip as well. I live 30-40 mins away on the subway. The food was eaten 2 hrs later and it was still good. The ribs were moist and juicy, the artichoke dip was great, the mac and cheese was creamy, but the fire fries were soggy probably because of the down time. I recommend this place if you live or travel around there. I went when the place was empty around 4ish in the afternoon. The food took 20 mins but thats a good thing when it comes to bbq. Pros: Good food , nice people, good ambiance Cons: Far more

Best Trash Can ""Fish Bowl"" ever had :) 9/4/2006

I'm not from the South, I'm even not from the States. So I can't really tell how a southern bar would look like. Anyway, I went to the Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack in the Upper East Side last year when I was doing a city trip to NYC. Together with a friend who lives in the city, we finished our night in this nice bar. The staff was very funny and friendly. Even the other cusommers were cool and friendly. But the best was the Trash Can ""Fish Bowl"" ;). We had a lot of fun with that special offer. I had a really great night. Next time I'm in New York I defitinely will visit the bar again. Pros: Service, ambience Cons: to far from where I live :) more

Great Take out 4/14/2006

As a Southern transplant now living in New York, I'm a huge HUGE fan of the delectable take out at this UES gem. Their mac and chesse is super tasty and the corn bread keeps you coming back from more. I personally recommend the hot or bbq wings. Their take-out service is top knotch-- always very nicely packed with seperate containers and all utensils, etc you need to enjoy your meal. I've never been in to the Bait Shack, but you should definitely think of them for take-out. Absolutely A+. Pros: Take out Cons: Expensive ribs more

Not my type of place 11/20/2005

I liked the food, but this was a sports bar. I didn't like the atmosphere at all. The waitress was nice, but other customers were loud, music was country loud and customers were drunk.....oh the drinks were great. Pros: great food, great drinks Cons: atmosphere, loud music more

good but nothing special 11/17/2005

Its not a bad place but there better ones. The foods okay but certainly not the the best barbeque I 've had. It definitely has a frat party feel to it which may be okay if your single and in your early 20s. I've been their several times (friends who live a block a way insist) and I never been impressed. more

Good barbecue, gross frat scene 11/3/2005

I am from the South and I know good soul food. The barbecue is pretty good (albeit drastically overpriced), but the rest of the food is lackluster. The atmosphere is revolting --- Basically a barn with junk hung on the walls. It's impossible to enjoy oneself because of all the heavily intoxicated b+t people trying to get picked up. The music is decade nostalgic and the food doesn't quite fill one's need for soul food. Plus, it's way overpriced. more

yummmmmmmmmy 11/2/2004

Hit this place on Mondays for $15 all you can eat ribs and wings. It is so yummmmy for the price and you get beers too. I love the Hush Puppies for an appetizer- only bad food is the nachos bc they are extremely soggy. Pros: inexpensive more

Don't Come for Monday Night Football 9/20/2004

I always end my night at one of the three Brother Jimmy's. They have a great scene. The Fish Bowls are dangerous. But great time. I went last night for Monday Night Football. Big Mistake. They were not prepared and the WORST waitress was in charge of our table. She completely forgot about us. We had to order our pitcher 3 times and she still never brought. Very frustrating. Who can eat wings without cold beer? Good over to 2nd Ave and try out Blondies! Great wings Pros: Awesome Late Night, Fish Bowls, Good Looking People more

Great Place For Partying! 11/27/2003

My friends & I have been bouncing back & forth between this Brother Jimmy's and the one at 80th & Amsterdam for well over 5 years now. We never miss a Birthday, Thanksgiving Eve, Promotion, or going there for no reason at all. Last year we celebrated New Year's Eve there and it was our best New Year's yet! Go here if you enjoy a party atmosphere with loud music, exciting people, great BBQ food, and you have a laid back personality with a bit of a wild side too. I highly recommend indulging in a fish bowl just once at Brother Jimmy's...I guarantee you'll go back for more. Pros: Swamp Drinks/BBQ Food, Great Location, Fun Crowd/Atmosphere Cons: At Times Too Crowded, Must Eat To Sit Down, Small Ladies' Room more

Sweet Tea! 8/18/2003

If you're from the south then this has to be a stop on your trip. This place has sweet tea! Wow! Good sweet tea at that. Wednesday night is Southern Appreciation Day, 25% off your bill with a valid southern I.D. The food is great - southern cuisine. It is very busy so get there early. The busier, the louder, and it tends to get very loud in here. If you want a quiet dinner this probably isn't the place to go, but if you want good Southern cuisine, at a reasonable price stop by Brother Jimmy's and soak up the south. Loads of UNC and other ACC memorabilia on the walls too! Pros: Great food, Sweet Tea, Atmosphere Cons: Can be noisy more

BBQ, ACC Hoops, and Trash Can Punch 8/18/2003

Brother Jimmys is a taste of the south right in NYC. go here to watch ACC college hoops or March Madness. guaranteed to meet other die-hard hoops fans. also they have great southern BBQ and great drinks such as Trash Can Punch Pros: BBQ, Trash Can Punch, College Hoops Cons: crowded more

i use to have fun here 8/12/2003

i had wrote in a while ago saying that i had fun here but that i not the case anymore, if possiable the male bartenders got more cocky then ever. they all seem old now and not as good looking as it use to be. me and my girlfriends will not be coming back here ever again and i would suggest the same for others. the guys a dirt balls for out of the city in one word CHEESEY.Thank god for the bouncers where very friendly and helpful getting the cheese away from us. Pros: Bouncer, Tom Cons: BARTENDERS, BARTENDERS, BARTENDERS more
