Worst Customer Service Ever 6/17/2011

I was previously a frequent guest at Oak City in Brooklyn Center. Since the management has changed hands, I've noticed a huge decrease in their customer service. The food quality is poor, the service is slow, and the staff is overall crabby. \r \r Recently a friend of mine went to Oak City B.C. and was told by the manager, Scott, that she was a ""fat, ugly, bi*?!"". I don't know where he learned his managerial skills but that's certainly not how I treat my customers. The staff has a total disregard for their clients and has no respect for the people who pay their wages.\r \r Like every other restaurant in B.C. that has gone under in the past 5 years, Oak City is sure to be next on the list if they keep their current staff. Perhaps some training is in order? more

wipe your hands on your pants I guess 1/28/2011

My husband, son and myself went to the Brooklyn Center location on Jan 20th. It was hard to find something on the menu that wasnt a sandwich or burger. I settled on a daily special of lasagna. When our food arrived we hadnt been given any napkins and utensils. The host noticed that we didnt have any napkins, so he so graciously gave us some cocktail napkins. I then went to a empty table and grabbed some rolled up napkins and utensils. My lasagna was burnt to the serving plate and my sons food was cold. I wouldnt recommend it to a friend or anyone else. more

Stereotypes 12/7/2010

I use to go here from time to time because I lived near here. I will not be going back. Food is ok but overpriced. I invited 7 friends to go there on a thursday night which is a younger, louder night. The guy at the door said my friend couldn't get in because he had a plain colored t-shirt on. They said no plain colored t-shirts. The balcony on Thursday is filled with people who bring girls there to drink free and guys that don't pay who tend to yell and provoke fights. The only dress code here is no plain tshirts and no hats because it could be mistaken as gang affiliation. They lost about $300 for that night and future business. Went to mad jacks up the road and all 8 of us were very satisfied. more

spotty service, but great food 9/10/2010

I live nearby, and regularly get takeout, and have been to this location many times. I can understand why the reviews are all over the place. First, I should say that in my experience, the food has been excellent every time without exception. They messed up my order once (in maybe 25 times), and made good on it immediately, and gave me a $15 gift card towards another meal. This place gets busy in bursts. Really busy. And when they do, service anywhere near the bar gets -- well -- just like trying to get attention at a busy bar. Avoid the highest traffic times, go to the restaurant side (away from the bar a bit) and you'll have a great experience. more

Poor staff 5/17/2010

Poor serves and manager was the rudist person I have ever dealt with, our food was under cook then over cooked also waiter was the worse never checked with us alway had to go find him then asked for a mgr and he come out and didn't even apolize just said he had to get back to work and walked away, this is a fairly new establishment and I do know of several people wjo will not go there anymore and also I will never and my friends or family will never spend our money at this location. Never had a worse experience and to top it off it was my birthday so thanks for ruining my evening more

Excellent Food - Great Value - Fun & Pretty Place to Boot! 11/16/2009

As a proud resident of Brookly Center I'll agree that not every eatery in our town is a winner. That said, those who have written bad reviews of Oak City are so far off base I've got to wonder what their agenda is...\r \r Oak City is beautifully decorated, supporting a casual, comfortable dining experience. The dining room mixes amble numbers of booths with tables, including several areas supporting large parties.\r \r The bar also includes booths and bar seating, is connected to the Country Inn and Suites and has an area for live entertainment.\r \r As menus go, Oak City's is solid, mid priced and the food is delicious. There is no question you could get some of the food for less but when combined with the atmosphere and service, this place is a winner to be sure.\r \r A recent addition, the outdoor patio seems like a perfect addition. As I understand, future plans call for a bar to be added at a later date.\r \r Those in the know, know Oak City is as solid a value in mid-priced dining as any in the Twin Cities. Delicious and fun, you cannot go wrong before, during or after Happy Hour. Live music is a plus. Pros: Solid food values and quality. Solid Happy Hour Cons: None that I can think of more

Great addition to Brooklyn Center! 9/25/2009

I have to say that I don't understand what the fuss is about with this restaurant. I have been here several times for brunch and dinner and I could not be happier with the service I received. Happy hour is the best deal with$2 drinks and appetizers with $4 flat bread pizzas and drinks. Its a great place to bring friends and share! I highly recommend the salmon dip with Pita. Brunch is a great deal too with lots of tasty food for being under $11.00. I would come back and recommend the place to anyone, anytime Pros: Great happy hour specials, atmosphere, servers and drinks, Cons: none, really more

Absolute worst restaurant experience ever! 9/15/2009

I had the absolute worst dining experience ever at the Brooklyn Center location awhile back and I will not be returning in the future. I was out with four other people (who also will no longer be patrons) that night and they are all aware of what transpired - me being charged twice on my credit card although I was assured I would only be charged once (the server forgot an item the first time she ran the card, so I trusted her to correct her error, not run my card twice). When I saw this mistake I promptly called Oak City, who let me know that one charge would disappear and I would only be charged for the actual amount I signed for. This error caused over $100 of my funds to be held up and I could not access them until they were cleared/removed from my account. I called Oak City a few times to follow up and each time my call was answered by an unprofessional, rude individual who seemed like they could not wait to get off the phone with me because I had a concern (two different hosts, one female, one male, and two separate male managers). I was treated very rudely each time and was not given a call back when I was assured I would receive one. Eventually the extra charge did disappear from my account, and only then did I see that the actual amount withdrawn from my account was MORE than what I signed for. It was like pulling teeth with Oak City to get them to refund the extra amount that was stolen from my account. I only saw the amount refunded when I threatened legal action. What they brazenly did is technically theft and credit card fraud. I will not recommend Oak City to anyone I know in the future, rather I will be sure that potential patrons are aware of their shady business practices. It's sad because my family, friends and I have spent a GREAT DEAL of money there in the past, including choosing Oak City for my graduation party. The poor service I received was coupled with a freezing restaurant and ridiculously small meal portions for the absurd prices. It's clear Oak City does not care about customer service - just getting money and trying to steal more than you authorize. Never again! Pros: Not a one Cons: Too many to count more

Worst Experience I have ever had at a restaurant 6/14/2009

I recently went here with my family for the first time. We all were very excited to go for the all you can eat crab legs on Wednesday nights. When the waitress came to the table she was very snotty and not overly friendly. She didn't even advise that we got the salad bar along with our meal. She acted as if it was an inconvience to have to serve us. Food was not very good. Crab legs were cold when they arrived at the table. We complained to the manager and he seemed less than empathetic to our situation and never apologized for the poor service or food. Would not recommend this restaurant. Manager was also rude and inconsiderate. Cons: Rude staff member and terrible food more

Best Burger and Happy Hour in the Twin Cities!!!!! 1/27/2009

Oak City in Brooklyn Center is a little gold mine for happy hour. 2 dollar drinks and beers 4 dollar long islands you cant go wrong with this place for happy hour! They even have happy hour 3-6:30/10-midnight EVERYDAY even on the weekends. I had a teryaki burger and couple cocktails and couldn't have been happier with my decision. The burger was cooked perfectly and really juicy!! Service was no less than perfect. Our server let us know about some nightly specials that we will certainly be trying out(all you can eat ribs on thursday nights can't miss that!). All in all we had a great time and will be returning and my advice to readers is to check this place out!!! Pros: Comfy atmosphere, down to earth staff. Cons: yea right more

Dynamite brunch 1/22/2009

We found our hot spot for next seasons football games! We saw an ad for Sunday Brunch and figured we would give it a try, we were not dissapointed! We walked in and my husbands jaw dropped when he saw all of the TV's ( I think the manager said they have 29) while my husband was admiring the TVs I spent almost a half hour reading all of the quotes they are all over the walls and even embroidered on most of the booths. Niether one of us is much of a bloody mary drinker but when we saw the build your own bloody bar we had to try it. Food on the buffet was not only delicious but hot. One of the Items on the buffet was running a little low but the employee keeping an eye on it said he would be right back with a full pan and POOF there he was. Other great things about our visit included, beautiful and clean bathrooms, a pleasant bartender, nice wine list, a friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.\r \r Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing on our first visit more

What a great addition to the City of Brooklyn Center!!! 10/23/2008

This is a fabulous place to just go and chill! The music is great and isn't so loud that you can't hear what the person is saying to you across the table. The food is outstanding and I would recommend anyone to try their flatbread pizza! NUM!!!\r We were there on the opening night in Brooklyn Center and have gone back several times. The Sunday brunch is great!! I would just suggest that you have free Mamosa's for brunch but other than that - it's great!\r The waitstaff is phenomenol. Big kudos to the manager. Anytime you need anything - he is right there to help and even comes out to your table to talk with you!\r I give this a BIG thumbs up!!! Nice addition to the City of Brooklyn Center. Pros: Wonderful musical atmosphere Cons: A little spendy but not out of reach more

Great food, service and decor 8/29/2008

We have eaten there twice and both times with our boys (4 and 1) and felt comfortable bringing them there. The food was very good, the atmosphere is cozy, but not too formal. The service was very good and we will be going back again. Hopefully next time we can go without the kids and enjoy a romantic dinner! So it is a kid friendly and date friendly place to go. My only fear is that it won't be around long if the word doesn't get out. It is not in a location known for fine food and I would hate to see this locally owned/ran restaurant disappear because not enough people know about it. So check it out!\r \r UPDATE...We found out a few more great things about this restaurant. They have live music on certain nights, game specials on Sundays and then in the evening it is Family Night and kids eat free...an awesome deal! They also have nightly specials like Walleye fish fry on Fridays and All you can eat ribs on Thursdays. We will be going back for that one for sure. My husband ordered the baby back ribs the other night and they were so yummy! Even their chicken tenders and cole slaw are better than the average place. They have Captain Crunch tenders, which are very crispy and sweet and served with a fab mustard sauce. The cole slaw has a pina colada sauce and pineapple mixed in and it is so tasty (and I usually never eat cole slaw). Just a few things I thought I would throw out there. And not only is the food good, but the servers genuinely seem to care if you are enjoying yourself and have been willing to substitute as needed and with no problems. This is no chain restaurant for sure, but local people that care about their customers. Pros: great ambience, fun to read all the quotes on the walls, great food and service Cons: none that we can find more

Great Food, Drinks & Service 5/19/2008

Four of us ate here recently and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere at Oak City is really nice. I loved reading the quotes on the walls. We shared appetizers, The bbq chicken pizza we ordered was delicious as were the wings with cajun ranch. Somebody next to us ordered nachos and they looked really good (ridiculously huge). I had a mandarin mojito and my wife had a pomegranate margarita. We both thought our drinks were really good. The friends we were with didn't have any specialty drinks. Im sure my buddy's captain coke was just fine. \r \r Entrees at our table included the ribs which I had-Really good, fettucinne alfredo-also very good I was told, shrimp tempura-Tasty with a spicy sauce (I sampled one) and a pasta with ham and peas in a white sauce-my wife raved about it and she is PICKY and hard to please. Trust me, I hear about it every day. \r \r My wife and I eat out a lot and often times we leave dissapointed in the food and/or service. Oak City was a pleasant surprise. Great Food, Great Service and Great Atmosphere. We will be back!!\r \r Pros: The whole experience Cons: None on my first visit more

Fabulous Food and Sensational Service 5/14/2008

The variety of entrees is great. Lunchtime fare or soup, sandwich and salad combos is marvelous. The burgers are unmatched - should make the Twin Cities Top 10 soon. Fries are the thin, hand cut variety and very good. Coleslaw has a touch of pineapple to make it very interesting.\r \r Service is unmatched. Staff is polite, professional, friendly without being overbearing, and helpful to the extreme.\r \r The beer selection is limited but the place is new so keep watching for more beers. Pros: Calm, relaxing atmosphere with great service Cons: limited beer selection more
