I loved this place when I lived nearby. However recently after driving across town I ran into an unfriendly staff member. So I won't bother coming back anymore. There are so many online options that I can't bother with unfriendly people. If I buy something used and have a problem, then I need to drive back across town. That reduces any savings I made have had. I shopped there routinely in the past, but no more. Pros: great neighborhood Cons: other alternatives with friendly help or online more

DVD's At A Great Price, service is based on personality of individual clerk! 9/5/2007

There was a time when one could rent or buy a used movie on VHS or Beta (remember those) for less than it would cost new. Of course, you were at the mercy of who had the tape last. Some VCR's were known to munch up or stretch tape - and another problem is because there was the friction caused by playback heads, the quality of the tape would deteriorate over time. Still, it was the only game in town, and we were willing to shell out the bucks for the luxury of owning a new or used copy. For myself, in the tape days, I stuck with new copies - having worked in broadcasting, I knew what can happen when tapes go bad - especially in cassette housings. DVD was and is a different story - its a plain plastic disk with foil sandwiched inside. A stylus or tape head does not touch it, and it doesn't come with workings that can wreak the media. A small spill, stain or finger print is no problem, washing off with a moist cloth will generally bring it back to "like-new" performance. So when I heard about the CD/Game Exchange I really wanted to see what they had and its quality. First, most of the DVD's they carry are in "widescreen" versions - this is important, since with the advent of HDTV Widescreen, the orginal aspect of a movie can be seen in its original glory. There are many shops that are overloaded with 4:3 standard versions that rely on "pan and scan" methods where one loses part of the theater experience. Avoid them. The quality (and I've purchased quite a few of my DVD's from them) has always been good. The disks are on shelves behind locked "see-thru" lexan sliding panels in their regular packaging - rather than behind a counter in a stack or file box where they can be easily scratched. The people at CD/Game Exchange are actually pretty good in helping one find the movies, cd's or games one has an interest in - and they allow you to examine the disk before you buy it! Would I recommend CD/Game Exchange? With two thumbs up and a big yes! -Andrew, MALL727net - Pros: Varied Selection Of DVD's In Widescreen and Great Prices... Cons: Really None, They are Used DVD's, not much can go wrong with them... more

I SOMEWHAT AGREE ABOUT THE SELECTION AT THE CD/GAME EXCHANGE. I AM NOT ONE TO COMPLAIN, BUT I SHOP IN THIS STORE QUITE OFTEN, AND I HAVE SEEN SOME USED GAMES AND CDS, THAT HAVE ACTUALLY COST MORE OR THE SAME AS THE NEW ITEMS. I AM A PERSON FOR A BARGAIN ANYDAY. I FREQUENT GAME STORES QUITE OFTEN, AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET A VERY GREAT DEAL IN ORDER FOR ME TO RETURN. I HAVE ALSO BEEN IN NUMEROUS STORES WHERE THE EMPLOYEES, ACTED AS IF YOU WERE NOT THERE. I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING, BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IF I AM GOING TO SPEND MONEY IN YOUR STORE THAT LEAST THING ONE CAN DO IS SHOW THAT YOU ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE NEXT ARRIVING CUSTOMER. Pros: GOOD PRICE ON USED CD, ANSWERS ANY QUESTIONS, REASONABLE TRADES Cons: TOO CROWDED, NOT ENOUGH SELECTION, PRICES COULD BETTER more

  • Pick Your Pleasure
Aside from mingling with the several flavors of hipster on hand to unlock the display cases and record your purchases by hand, the fun of the CD/Game Exchange is hunting for bargains. The store carries both newly released (competitively priced) disks as well as used CDs, LPs, tapes, video games, VHS tapes and DVDs.

    Local Flavor
Each location reflects its neighborhood. While new stock is generally the same in all stores and covers everything from alternative and pop to hip- hop and country to jazz, the used stock stays in the neighborhood where it was traded. This means you'll find more hippie music on Coventry, more metal in Parma.

    Liner Notes
Twenty-five years ago, Richard Shahinian opened the first Record Exchange using a buy/sell/trade model. It worked so well that 23 other stores were happily born. Three years ago, Shahinian and his business partner went their separate ways and Shahinian's half of the biz changed its name to the CD/Game Exchange. But those little white "this sticker serves as your receipt" tags, now a Cleveland institution, they're still the same. You don't mess with success.
