Best

WONDERFUL. Always good food.

Worst

My food arrived slopped together and half the ingredients were on one half of the sandwich and the other ingredients were on the other half. Both of my sandwiches were missing in...

Coffee With Character -- Just Yuppie Enough 6/22/2006

I heard about the Pig through a friend who was staying in the studios up by DePaul. Naturally, the DePaul/Sheffield clientele is huge -- expect to hear premed students studying & chatting away on the second floor. A place like this makes for a great getaway. Cramped, broken-in, full of character. The second floor is the perfect place to put in five hours on the laptop while nursing a cup of the most exotic tea you could think of. The floors are grungy, creaky hardwood with plenty to line the walls, from old funky pictures to bookcases. Don't come hungry. Rather, don't come hungry and poor. The food menu is a bit overblown, and too expensive. I'd lose the gimmicky, literary sandwiches with fancy ingredients and simplify -- the college crowd wouldn't miss it. The coffee menu has you covered whatever your tastes, and the aforementioned tea selection is said to be the largest. A great getaway. Make it your new library -- it sorta feels like one already, except the "Catcher in the Rye" is tastier. more

A cozy, independent coffee shop 4/3/2006

Bourgeois Pig is a nice alternative to Starbucks and Caribou, if you're looking for a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. They're very close to the DePaul campus and the Fullerton el stop, and open late into the night. Their coffee is great, and they do a variety of hot beverages. It's a good place to go for a snack as well, since they have ice cream, wonderful cookies, and organic-y sandwiches. It's a nice change of pace! more

Love this place 3/5/2006

I love the vibe in this place. They have conveniently named their sandwiches after famous authors or old literature. The upstairs has some comfortable seating where you can gossip with your friends, people watch or do some writing. I find the atmosphere to be conducive to my creativity, probably something to do with the Hemingway ham sandwich.... so i like bringing my journal there. Their coffee is decent too, so that is a plus. because the food is usually a little steep for my budget, I usually just order to coffee, so that i can have a reason to sit there for a while. Once again, great vibe!!! more

Nice Cafe 2/20/2006

This is a nice little cafe in Lincoln Park. It has a more homely feel than all the surrounding Starbucks. It is a nice little cafe, with lots of cozy seating. They have really great, hot drinks and lots of yummy snacks and sweets. I love going here on the weekends or in the evenings and grabbing a seat by the window. Its the perfect place to read, people watch, hang out with a friend, or even surf the web (they offer free wi-fi here!). Its a nice little cafe and a real fresh change from the typical Starbuck's Cafes. more

coffee house 1/14/2006

This is an awesome little coffee house in the Lincoln Park area. The coffee and food here are fresh and this place sure beats your conventional Starbucks. The shop is nice and and very comfortable and they even have free wi-fi. The only thing that would make this place better would be if it was a little bigger and had a bit more seating space. Its a great place to go study in the evening or on the weekends. And try to get a seat by the windows; there's an awesome view. more

Quiet 9/27/2005

This little neighborhood deli/coffeehouse/gathering spot is the perfect place to catch up with an old friend, or to study until your heart's content. The atmosphere is a bit studious; always something available to read or a game to play. The food is great if not a tad overpriced, and the staff is super friendly. more

Great little coffeehouse 9/14/2005

Bourgeois Pig is a favorite of students and neighborhood residents. The little cafe is right on Fullerton but seems to be hidden due to it's being set back from the street. In front of the building is a small outdoor seating area. Inside there are tables on the first and second floors. The coffee is good. They also have specialty sodas. The food is very good. They have a large selection of sandwiches and also have quiche and muffins. They will also make you a made-to-order sandwich. Bourgeois Pig is a great place to study, read a book, or visit with a friend. more

Great old-fashioned cafe and coffee shop 8/30/2005

Great independent place. They have a wide menu of good food including breakfast food like waffles, bagels, etc. and lunch or dinner food like sandwiches, wraps and quiche. They also have extensive desserts -it varies but includes, cheesecakes, cakes, tortes, and pies. They always have muffins and breads. They have a wide variety of great coffee and it is cheaper than Starbucks. The building it's in is really cool - we were trying to guess if it originally had been a house or maybe apartments. The bathroom still has a claw-foot tub in it. There is seating inside on the main or second floor and outside too. Inside is airconditioned. Great non-chain atmosphere at cheaper than Starbucks prices for coffee and reasonable food prices! more
