I joined BTKD in 2000 seriously out of shape both physically and mentally. I learned self-confidence and self-respect and even achieved my first degree black belt. I did most of my training directly under Master Montrond. He was wonderful. He has a true passion for the Martial Arts and loves what he does, and it shows. He helps to bring out the best in each and every student. He has a great team of instructors under him as well. They help you to better yourself mentally, physically and spiritually. You get the whole package there. I was able to rise above my raising and reach for the top. Master Montrond taught me ""to develop myself in a positive manner, and to avoid anything that would reduce my mental growth or my physical health"". I have found true peace within because of my training at BTKD. It is a great place and I highly recommend them. I have since moved out of state, but will be forever indebted to Master Montrond. Thank you, Sir!! more

Boston Taekwondo is the best place to go if you love to have fun! I started this program when I was 7 or 8, and I'm still doing it almost 10 years later. BTKD has made my childhood the best it can be and I'm now a second degree black belt. I've met many of my friends through this program. Master Montrond is a great instructor. He knows what he's doing and he knows how to make it fun. Over, the years, I've learned so much about life and all the great things about it. All I can say is, thank you Master for these many great years, and I recommend this program to everyone! more

I love this program! I have been at Boston Taekwondo Academy for over 8 years my daughter started at 2.5 years and she is now 11 and a Black Belt! Master Montrond has taught her self confidence, focus, and perseverance. She is eager to go to each and every class and try her very best. My son also started the program when he was 4 , he is now 8 and can't wait to get to class. Master Montrond has a great and supportive staff. They are always eager to help the parents deal with any challenges you and your child may be facing. The focus is not on fighting but on principals of self defense. You can often find him sitting on the mat talking to the kids about stranger danger, peer pressure and bulling. I believe this school is a diamond in the rough and am very lucky to have found it. Proud mom of 2 BTK kids more

My son has been coming to the program, since he was 6, and is about to get his black belt. This is such an amazing group of teachers. Everybody is extremely supportive, and dedicated to their work. They know how to motivate a child and make them want to come for more. Absolutely recommend it to anybody, who's child might even have a slight interest in this sport. more

Has Been Wonderful For My Kids 10/5/2011

My children have been at Boston Tae Kwon Do for over 7 years and they have grown so much physically, mentally and emotionally. The support they have received from the staff is tremendous. My daughter even wrote an english paper on how supportive the instructors have been to her. The instructors are phenomenal with all the kids and know how to work with each one to bring out the best in them. And, they are always putting forth a positive attiitude making the kids feel positive too. Each of my children's self confidence and self esteem has improved significantly from their years at Boston Tae Kwon Do. I am amazed at how easily my son and daughter perform their forms in front of a room full of people. They are proud of what they have accomplished and it shows! My son started at age 6 and by age 12 he became a black belt! The instructors work hard with the students to help them succeed which only builds their confidence more. Master Montrond cares about all his students and it shows in the fact that he knows every one of their names! It's a wonderful place for a child to grow in every way! more

Excellent team - healthy choice for your kids! 9/29/2011

Excellent team of instructors ! Our kids love to take class and have look at the teachers as big brothers ! It is a school where your kids can learn martial arts but most important discipline, respect and patience! I simply love to go there and watch the class! more

A huge part of my life. 4/14/2011

I have been with Boston Tae Kwon Do as a student for the past 15 years of my life. I would say that this has been one of the greatest long-running experiences I have had in my life. Master Montrond is an amazing teacher and man who cares deeply about his students. He was more than a teacher to me. He was a mentor, a role model, and a friend. The staff are incredibly skilled and patient with the students. Not only does the school teach the students to be skilled at the martial arts, but it also helps to instill qualities that help in other aspects of life. Self-discipline, control, focus, respect, patience, courage, persistence and dedication are all taught as important. In a time when much of the attitude is to ""do whatever is needed to get ahead"" it is amazing to see that there is a school that is determined and dedicated to training and studying with integrity. My experiences at Boston Tae Kwon Do Academy helped shape me into who I am today, and I am incredibly grateful to have had that opportunity. I would HIGHLY recommend studying there. I do not agree with the two reviews that gave one star. After being at that school for most of my life and almost the entire duration of the school's existence, I can say that I have never seen the behavior described there. The instructors are far from cocky, and are incredibly patient. They are the most qualified teachers I have met and deeply care for their students. The reviewers are even patient when faced by some of the most disrespectful children I have seen. The change I have seen in those students' lives are incredible. From low self esteem to high confidence, unhealthy to great shape, disrespectful and loud to respectful. more

Very much recommended! 2/3/2011

I am confounded by the 2 prior reviews. My son has been attending BTK for 4 1/2 years. It has been the only activity he has stuck with for this long, and I give the academy all the credit for that. Master Montrond is a truly exceptional instructor, motivator, and coach. He has a very special ability to connect with kids. I have watched him teach children with attention and learning problems - he is patient, positive, and very effective. Above all, Mr Montrond uses positive reinforcement. He teaches integrity, humility, and self-confidence. It is hard to believe that he can maintain such a energetic, positive demeanor class after class, day after day, but I truly have never seen him have a ""bad day."" He has also assembled a terrific staff. Clearly they all believe in his method of positive reinforcement. They make classes fun, as well as enriching. He has very little staff turnover. I think this says a lot about the program that he runs. One of the prior reviewers used the word ""arrogant"" to describe him (if they were in fact reviewing the right place). This is totally bewildering, as this is the last word I would use to describe any of the staff. Mr Montrond goes out of his way to treat the students and their parents with respect. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. (and I DONT like arrogant people). Another reviewer complained of instructors not showing up. In nearly 5 years, there has never been a singe instance of this happening to our family. The only qualification I would give, is that the school really focuses on building self-confidence, balance, and general athleticism. It does not focus very much on time real self-defense skills. If you want your son or daughter to develop real fighting skills, this may not be the best place. Pros: Exceptional staff. Very positive approach to teaching. Cons: some classes can get crowded more

well said 6/26/2009

an important detail that the reviewer left out is that sometimes the instructor doesnt show up or let you know he isnt going to be there. do you know how annoying that is? a school door has a cutout of the instructor doing a kick is prolly not a good sign. YUCK. Pros: clean space Cons: cocky more

A great school if you want your kids to learn junk... 1/13/2009

I pulled my child (as did many others) after attending Boston TKD - the instructor was exceptionally arrogant and was not receptive to my concerns and the concerns of many other parents. It seemed difficult to meet the needs of children or to be able to gauge what the needs even are. I've always said that just because someone knows how to do something does not mean that one can teach it. Furthermore, teaching something to children is completely different from teaching to adults - I don't think they understand that concept there. They did not know how to instill confidence, how to motivate, or instill good values. All they did was bark orders at the kids and get frustrated when the kids didn't obey instead of properly handling the situation. Pros: Lots of parking Cons: Everything else more
