Expensive and doughy 7/23/2008

It costs about 2.60 I think for one waffle, and 2.50 for coffee (without tax). The girl behind the counterwas very unfriendly. And the waffles? A doughy, heavy, greasy mess! Won't be back until they get rid of the unfriendly girl, and make a decent waffel that tastes like real food insted of playdough! The waffles were way too sweet, and I would love to have the option of real maple syrup, scince it is a waffle house. Pros: the place smelled good Cons: waffles tasted like heavy dough, cranky girl, overpriced more

What Belgian waffle? 1/9/2008

At 2.99 for two mini waffles and a coffee, I thought I had spotted a good deal, except that the waffles (as everyone else has described) have doughy chewy interiors, and the outside was all covered with burnt bits from the last twenty waffles they cooked. For some reason the guy I ordered from also added hard sugar bits into the waffles, so I ended up with a sugar headache. Though I know nothing about making waffles, the last time I had a Belgian waffle was in a market in Singapore (of all places), and they served up a golden brown confection, with a small bowl of melted Belgian chocolate. So I was expecting something more from Bonte. Alas! Pros: Coffee is passable, ambience is OK, friendly staff Cons: Terrible waffles more

NOT Yumm-Oh! 11/29/2007

Ok, if you go to a Belgian Waffle Cafe, you'll expect the waffles to be the specialty. I don't know what kind of mixture they use, but the waffles are NOT waffles. They're doughy, undercooked squares of I don't know what. The sandwiches looked yummy, but I didn't try one. If this is what a true Belgian waffle is, then sorry, I want none of it. Pros: $2.75 for a piece of dough Cons: where are the waffles? more

Do they know what waffles are??? 11/29/2007

Whoever gave this place 4 stars must work there. The sandwiches and salads are OK, but their waffles are disgusting. It's very doughy and undercooked (as the other reviewers noted). Waffle House has better waffles...IHOP has better waffles. A teenager could make a better waffle with a waffle maker. I'm never going back there for waffles again. Pros: sandwiches Cons: WAFFLES--blah more

disappointed 6/19/2007

i had a serious craving for a belgium waffle...man was disappointed. the waffle would have probably been more enjoyable had it not been covered in the crust from the waffle iron...and still something was missing...where was the powdered sugar..where was the cruchy exterior. the sandwhichs in the display case looked tasty..but at almost $7 i won't be taking any chances to find out more

wafflerie that cannot get the waffles right 6/10/2007

I went to the Bonte Wafflerie today for brunch, mainly to try the Belgian waffles again. While the pre-made foccaccia sandwiches (ham and salami mixed together) were ok, the waffles were an unmitigated disaster - way way undercooked, with doughy raw interiors. I wrote the first cooking mishap off - attributing the undercooked mess to the many strawberries in the dough, but the second waffle - pecan - was again inedible even after we asked the teen-age girl working the counter to cook it again. It was returned the same underbaked, unpalatable way (we simply left it on the plate). Pros: good selection of pastries, ample sandwiches Cons: the main draw of Bonte - its Belgian waffles - are badly made more

Great coffee, great waffles, but surprisingly great lunch too! 11/20/2006

yes, come here for the coffee and the waffles, but surprisingly, the lunch food is especially delicious. seems fresh and well made. avocado and turkey sandwiches, delicious lentil soup. also, the barristas are incredibly nice. they remember regulars and are very friendly. there are a lot of jefferson med students studying at the tables outside - i bet they'd get even more business if they offered a jeff discount *hint hint! Pros: Great coffee, great lunch Cons: $2.50 coffee - not cheap, but a lot better than wawa more
