Great place to stay. Upscale, but still a place where you can bring your children. All around A+

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/21/2013

Wednesday Jan 18, 2012. We decided to eat breakfast at Boma. I went on the internet to check what was listed and saw it was a buffet breakfast being offered. I am not usually prone to use buffet service, especially in a restaurant where kids are served, but I thought we could go check it out. I saw online adult meals were $14.95 and kids were somewhere around $7.95 so off we went. Getting to the reservation desk we saw the place was almost empty, and I thought it strange we were made to feel as though we would not be seated unless we had a reservation. They wanted our name, where we were staying, and our room number, which I thought was none of their business, but my wife cooperated. We were then told breakfast for an adult was $19.99, and children $12.99 or so. Far more that I had just seen listed online, but then to top off the added cost they said my 10 year old granddaughter would be priced as an adult. This was ridiculous, so we left. \r The bad part was that we went to Mara restaurant, and after that experience we decided to not eat at any other Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurants during our 8 day stay at the Jambo House. more

EXCELLENT! Family restaurant with awesome view and food 7/23/2010

My family was in Walt Disney World for vacation last week and even though we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, we went to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to try out Boma. With 3 small children and a husband who's a picky eater, I was skeptical that they would be able to find some African food that they liked. Boy was I wrong. It's a buffet, and it's HUGE! Everything we tried was spectacular! No one had anything that they didn't like. My husband recommends the beef loin, and I recommend trying ALL the desserts, they are bite-sized and all of them are ridiculously delicious. We got to try a lot of things we've never even heard of before and it was all excellent. We will definitely be going back to Boma next year when we return to Disney, too bad there isn't one in Denver!!! Pros: Food, View, Atmosphere Cons: NONE! more

Past Cast Memeber 6/10/2009

I actually worked at Boma for about a year. I can say that not only is the food outstanding and the atmosphere wonderfule, the chefs are great. Chef TJ makes the best PuPu platters and fried Oreos! Chef Jenny, Chef David and Chef TJ are who I worked with the most and they were outstanding individuals, teachers and guest service winners. They would go out of their way to make sure that a guest had what they needed and that their experience was one that would be remembered. I learned so much from them about how to help create that everlasting memory that Disney wants every guest to have as well as how to prepare great food. And as stated by ""sashafl"" we were proud to be a leader in vegetarian cuisine for the guests. I am so proud to say I worked there and want everyone to know how wonerful it is. Pros: Awesome Chefs, food, and quality more

Wonderful hotel, but not as convenient to attractions 7/29/2008

This hotel goes all out with its animal theme, from the main hall designed to look like a wilderness lodge to a savannah outback complete with live giraffes, zebras and other animals. My family would always make a special trip over to this hotel to eat at the Boma, a mix of African cuisine and classic, American buffet foods. Afterward once it got dark, we?d always sit by the large fire pit outback in the rocking chairs. (Yes, it is possible relax at Disney! Lol) The major disadvantage this hotel has though in my view is that guests without cars are dependent on the Disney bus system to get everywhere. There?s no park or attraction you can walk to from the lodge. more

Best vegetarian food I've ever had 6/25/2007

This place is a dream come true for vegetarians! There are so many options to choose from! There is even protein to be found: lentils, tofu, beans, hummus. Most of the vegetarian options are also vegan, which is really refreshing. The tastes are truly amazing. You can try 12 different things and no two will taste the same. It's a steal for under $30! Last time we ate there the chef came out to meet us and brought us several special vegetarian platters. If I lived closer, I would easily make this a weekly dining experience. Pros: Food is phenomenal Cons: A little noisy, especially at peak dinner time more

Culinary Adventures in the Magic Kingdom! 11/10/2006

If you aren't already in awe of the ambiance as you walk through the doors of Disney's Animal Kingdom lodge or taken by the animals roaming free outside the windows, you will definitely complete your awe struck experience by eating at Boma. You couldn't find a wait staff that is more friendly that will explain the different cusine presented in a buffett style setting.... No, this isn't your typical macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and meatloaf type of buffett.. its much more eclectic and grandiose sprinkled with a little bit of magic that you would expect from the chefs at the happiest place on earth. The buffet transports your palette to a continent that your mouth has probably not explored before. If you celebrating a special occassion call ahead for reservations and let the staff know of any event you planning to celebrate at Boma. Even if you aren't celebrating anything, reservations are highly recommended as it is quite the place to eat for the good food and ambiance of a beautiful hotel restaurant. Be prepared to be opened minded and try new things, of course their will always be the ""safe foods"" for those who aren't on a quest for a culinary adventure. Pros: A great compliment to a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, ambience, variety of food Cons: Lots of tables, busy at times. more

Wonderful tastes and variety! 8/9/2005

Boma is amazing! It's expensive, but well worth it for the vast array of African foods in the buffet. The carrot ginger soup, salmon and hummus are 3 of the most tasty things there. The menu also changes according to the day, so dinner is always a surprise. It's a little noisy and crowded.. no romantic dining here, but if you want a taste adventure and love trying new things, this place is for you. Not to mention that it's in the beautiful Animal Kingdom lodge where you can stroll the grounds to see animals afterwards and walk off the huge meal! It's sister next door, Jiko, is better for business and romance, but I would rather visit Boma. Pros: great selection, all you can eat, amazing food Cons: crowded at times, noisy more

Best in the Animal Kingdom 6/28/2005

Boma has a large variety of buffet foods are served including barbecued salmon, prime rib, and accompanying vegetables and potatoes indigenous to different regions of Africa. The food is very tasting and not all that ""out there"" if you are not into eating strange foods. They also have good desserts including chocolate domes and they have a kids serving station with chicken tenders and the like. The one bad thing is that the buffet line quickly gets long at the entrance but they do have plates stationed along the line that make for somewhat easier second trips. Also, if you like a particular item, just let your server know and they will happily email you the recipe. more

Can't Say Enough Good Things! 11/25/2003

Wife and myself stayed there 8-15 Sep. One of the few places that is actually better than the advertisements. Animals on a savannah outside your window. Super Staff..always ready to help. Great food..you must try the evening bouffet..OUTSTANDING! Super pool and relaxing atmosphere. Just walking into the lobby is an overwhelming experience! Just walking around the lodge is like going to a theme park...multiple viewing areas to see the animals. Can't say enough good things about this place. Definitely intend to go back..can't wait! Pros: GREAT ATMOSPHERE, VERY GOOD FOOD, RELAXING more

Amazing and Relaxing 11/5/2003

We booked a Standard View Room because we heard they usually offer a free upgrade if the hotel isn't full. At check-in, they told us they'd already upgraded us to a Pool View Room at no extra charge. I asked how much more it would be for a Savannah View Room - only $10 more per night! So, for $60 more, we got a room that would have been $500 more for the week if we had reserved it in advance! Plus she let us pick the area of the hotel we wanted. Definitely ask for an inside Savannah view. Nothing like having breakfast on your balcony while the animals eat below. Peaceful. Like another reviewer said - DO NOT get a Pool View room. We went for a quiet swim close to midnight and parents had their kids screaming out there. Restaurants are fantastic, especially the breakfast buffet! Pros: View, Quiet Savannah Rooms, Great Food & Service Cons: Screaming kids @ pool more

Wonderful resort 10/9/2002

I stayed this year and I had an excelent time the resort was beautiful the rooms very wonderful and inviting. The people were helpful and friendly. The view was amazing. DO NOT get a pool view if you intend on sleeping because its open TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY. I could not sleep because of children screaming at 11:30-12:30pm! I reccomend a savannah view its amazing to wake up to zebra and geraffes at your window being fed! Pros: beautiful rooms, excelent service, great setting Cons: 24hr pool, distance from MK!, hard matress more

Make memories at WDW 8/14/2002

Let's face it, Walt Disney World is an expensive vacation destination. So, if you are going to come here, make ALL of it memorable. By staying in the middle of a recreated African savannah, you will be constantly amazed at the beauty and majesty of it's animals. Every morning, we were able to have coffee on our veranda and watch wildebeest, zebra and giraffe foraging. You are close enough to hear the sounds of their chomping. The atmosphere of the resort is truly in another world, a wonderful learning experience for each and every one. Pros: Atmosphere, Animals, atmosphere Cons: long walks to lobby more

Unforgettable experience 8/6/2002

I started out feeling disappointed that this hotel was a distance from the Magic Kingdom (a bus ride, as opposed to taking the monorail), but the Animal Kingdom won me over the second I walked inside. The lobby is gorgeous, the views from each room are priceless and the breakfast buffet is one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommended. Pros: Incredible views more

A GREAT FAMILY PLACE 6/20/2002

Every morning we had breakfast with the animals and enjoyed coming back from the park in the afternoon for a quiet nap. Pool is giantic. Nice play are for small children. Disappointment in that there are no walking trails, but touring the different areas in and around the Hotel you can get quite a bit of experise. It was worth every cents we paid for it. After the room was made we came back to these wonderful little creatures made out of towels and wash clothes. Pros: Animals, African Theme, Quiet Cons: Expensive, Out of the way, Massive but inside more

girraffs, zebras and wildebeasts oh my 6/4/2002

FANTASTIC!!!!!! you have all the animals within 50 feet of your room. I woke the wife at 6:30am just before going to my tee time and we had cattle, kudo, zebra, birds, girraffs, wildebeasts and more right outside the window. The food was terrific in all the restaurants. Pros: the animals, the food, the service Cons: long walks from the l, know it all guests th more

The Relaxing Oasis 6/4/2002

This hotel has not only a wonderful staff but many spots to simply sit and relax in your time away from the parks. We had a savannah room and did enjoy all of the animals from the balcony but we would have been find to have a simply standard view room. There are multiple places to sit in rocking chairs and watch the animals. This place is great for couples and families. Don't miss trying Boma the food was excellent. Although the hotel might seem far from some of the parks we had a car and it took us no time at all to get back and forth from our hotel. Overall this was a hotel we could not wait to get back to each day and were never disappointed when it was time to leave the park. It is a hotel we will definitely be returning to. Pros: Great Restaurants, animal viewing areas, Great staff Cons: pool not very warm more
