Excellent Food 12/27/2010

Thanksgiving 2010 - My first time visiting the Bodihi Tree Cafe and I was impressed with both the selection and quality of food they had for their Thanksgiving feast. Not a vegetarian myself, however eating three vegetarians we all enjoyed the food. I believe among the favorites was the ham. I have not had the pleasure of dining here and enjoying their regular menu, but the buffet style Thanksgiving feast was great. more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!! 12/6/2010

I have been eating at this restaurant for about 5 years and so I will try to be as unbiased as I can. Even after they switched ownerships, I continued to patronage this restaurant because the vegetarian menu is decent and it is close to home. I never had a problem with them before. Then, last week Groupon offered a deal for Bodhi Tree and I jumped on it. We showed up today for lunch with the intent to use it. Groupon's policy states that there are two ways to redeem the deal: print the certificate or show the certificate to the vendor from the GRoupon app on your phone. We chose to show them the app, since we didn't have time to print the certificate. And then the sh*t hit the fan. The restaurant owner at the restaurant refused to take it. She made a big fuss and complained loudly in Vietnamese about the Groupon. She did not realize that I understood every word she said. She complained about how she was not making any money off of this sale and that she would not take a digital version of the coupon because she said that we could go home and print out another coupon and use it again. I was extremely insulted at the insinuation, and did not care for the way she treated us just because we wanted a discount. We tried to compromise by saying that we would pay for our meal and return later in the day with the printed coupon. Instead, she demanded to hold on to our credit card and told us to go home and print our Groupon and return with it IMMEDIATELY. We ended up doing just that to get it over with. It was alot of trouble for food that isn't even THAT great, especially now that the ownership has changed. The manager was VERY RUDE and she made us feel completely unwanted and like beggars, like she was doing US a big favor by taking the groupon! The waiter seemed like he wanted to help us out, but the store manager was basically being a big witch. It is obvious that ""customer service"" is not something this woman understands and definitely not a priority. WE WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN. She lost a long time customer and I will tell everyone about this experience. There are plenty of good vietnamese vegetarian restaurants in Orange County, so I feel no loss by crossing this place off my list. If you want to go to a place that does not make you feel like they hate you for eating there, then DO NOT COME HERE! more

Excellent! 10/1/2009

My daughter is vegan and I like to join her when she speaks highly of a restaurant. She bugged me to go to the Bodhi Tree and I went on one Tuesday after the street fair. OMG, let me tell you, what a superb meal! I loved my food, and both daughters enjoyed theirs. The service was good, the staff friendly, the atmosphere relaxing. Definitely will join them for many many more visits! Pros: All Good! more

Made Me Sick 8/6/2009

I ate there for the first time and got f00d poi$oning. I had a lunch special and ate everything..soup, noodles, tofu shrimp... That night I got a headache and nausea. The headache and nausea continued to the next morning. After taking Ibuprofen, I felt better. The coworker I ate with got even worse symptoms that still lingers after 4 days. Pros: Vegetarian Cons: Unhealthy more

A favorite even for non vegetarians 10/15/2008

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The soups and stews are especially good. The curry stew being one of my favorite meals. The coconut ice cream and lotus cake is delicious. Even if you're not a vegetarian you will still enjoy this restaurant. The staff is friendly and helpful. The owner remembers you and is always welcoming. Pros: food and service more

Worst Asian Vegetarian Restaurant 8/30/2007

I wouldn't reccommend this restaurant to anyone. I had many different type of vegetarian food in my life. Even food from temples are much better than this. The service was horrible; i ordered spicy pork, but i received sweet and sour pork. The waitress gave me ice tea, but i ordered the thai tea. The sauce was thick and heavy in sugar and cornstarch. I am very picky with rice, so rice they offer didn't compliment the sauce. The perfect rice would be properly cooked and goes well with the sauce and food you eat, their rice was over cooked, dry, and had a little raw rice flavor. The thai tea I ordered was not that bad (i can taste a little soy cream, but a lot of whip cream) but a little unusual to what i'm used to. THERE ARE OTHER BETTER VEGETARIAN RESTAURANTS besides this one, and they're a little cheaper than bodhi. The entire meal made my stomach uneasy. Pros: NONE AT ALL Cons: FOOD, SERVICE, DISGUSTING BATHROOM more

Good alternative to ""meat -eating"" restaurant...not so great service 8/8/2007

Just became a vegetarian a few months ago and have never realized how hard it is to find vegan or vegetarian restaurants. I'll say that my dish was great, ""chicken"" with glass noodles. Yum, it really did look and taste like chicken. My bf had the sizzling rice dish, and it tasted a little burnt, and had a TON of cilantro in it, an herb neither of us like at all, and probably something they should specify on the menu if theyre going to use so much of it. Service was friendly...but as soon as we got our food, and finished, we literally did not get a visit from the two girls there for at least 20 minutes. We sat there, empty plates in front of us for an eternity. Which I might understand if they were busy, but there were 5 tables sat. One girl running to the back making boba smoothies, the other one chatting with the same table for at least 10 minutes. I WILL go back for the food, but most likely will pick it up to go. Pros: So many options, big menu Cons: Waitresses who ignore you more

Best vegetarian restaurant in town 8/2/2007

The Bodai Tree has become my absolute FAVORITE cafe in Huntington Beach. I have been a 30 yr resident and I was introduced to Bodai Tree by my daughter 3 months ago. We dine there every week. My favorite dishes are the Chicken Stir Fry, the Sizzing Rice Vegetable Plate and then for dessert--- you HAVE to try the bread pudding with the Coconut vegetarian ice cream. Its heaven. more

Fantastic Healthy Restaurant :) 12/18/2005

I'll start off by saying I'm not Vegan, but wanted to try this restaurant for some Healthy Cuisine based off Citysearch recommendations. I took a group of Non-Vegetarian friends, and after we left, suffice to say we were all very satisfied! :) Bohdi is a 100% Vegetarian restaurant, with I believe 100% Vegan dishes as well. They are a mix of Southeast Asian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other styles mixed together. Their Lunch Specials come w/ a delectable bowl of Soup Du Jour; for us it was an amazing Red Bean-based Vegan Soup (amazing!). Their ""Chicken"" (Soy-based) w/ Bamboo Shoots was very well done, but a touch salty (just ask them to go easy on salt). Wonderful fresh fruit Smoothies (Jackfruit, Strawberry, etc.)! Highly recommended. Pros: Healthy Food, Wonderful Flavor, Fair Prices more

Excellent some days, avoid sundays 6/8/2005

Superb food when prepared fresh, but watch out on cook's day off. recommended are sandwiches and spicy fish (made of soy). they need to bus tables. Pros: tasty, wide choice Cons: tables left unbussed more
