I love this place! Fun atmosphere, the 2/10/2012

I love this place! Fun atmosphere, the owner is super nice and professional, and both times I've been, the stylists have been skilled, efficient, and friendly. \r \r The first time, I got a half-price groupon for the ""Blowout Luscious,"" which is normally $42, and includes a deep conditioning treatment and a scalp and neck massage. I asked for loose curls -- my hair is naturally pretty straight, so there was a fair amount of product involved, but that's to be expected. \r \r Most recently, I went for the basic blowout -- I wanted to get ready for a date, felt a little rushed in the morning, and since it's in the neighborhood where I work, thought I'd see if they had availability during my lunch. The website allows you to make reservations really easily at any time, and you're sent a confirmation immediately.\r \r I asked my stylist, Ally, to go easy on the product, and just make it something pretty and sleek that would carry over to the next day -- turned out fabulous! Received compliments immediately when I got back to work.\r \r The ""Lucious"" is great if you have a little extra cash, but I think the basic blowout is a pretty good value for those times when you want to know your hair will look great, you have about an hour, and you can do with some pampering. \r \r Oh, and I know others have complained about the use of paper towels -- I've had regular towels used both times I went in, and no problem with water dripping down my back. The stylists know what they're doing, and have fun with it while making sure you get what you asked for. more

I Love It! 4/3/2011

WOW! I recently hosted a dinner party which a few of my friends from New York were attending. I hadn't seen them in over a year and felt the need to impress them. Realizing I had to do something, I called Blowout where someone kindly booked an appointment for me on such short notice. When I got to Blowout two hours later I was seated and offered a mimosa {it was mimosa Sunday} while someone shampooed my hair. Though Blowout was full of other people getting their hair done, the stylist did a fabulous job of making it very personal. When my hair had been styled I was shocked; my hair looked like it came straight out of Vogue. My normally lifeless hair had body, shine, drama, and effortlesly gorgeous cascading curls. I bought about 5 bottles of their custom made hair products and booked an appointment for my big work presentation next Tuesday. I was scared that I wasn't going to have enough time to run into Nordstroms to pick up my dress, but my appointment only lasted 30 minutes. Overall I would definantly reccomend Blowout for anyone looking to have effortlessly beautiful hair. more

Im not even girly, and this place was rad. 3/9/2011

So I was doing my daily walk and decided to get some coffee at Powells (amazing vanilla lattes).. and I was walking by West Elm to look at their new stuff. I looked across the street and saw a pink sign, so I had to see what this place was - BLOW OUT? I wasnt really sure about it at first so I went in. As soon as I got in I was greeted by worker at the front desk. She was very nice and told me all about the services that they did... and since I dont usually like doing my hair I decided to give it a go. I got in and I told her I wanted the ""sleek and chic"", basically a great very straight style with a swoop bang. She did a great shampoo, and yeah used the eco friendly towels and blew me out (who knew my hair would get volume) then went in with her hot tools.. she did a great job. Way better than I do. I liked that she did a good consult and asked me what I liked/didnt like to be put in my hair products wise. I left happy, soft straight hair, and some dry shampoo to keep it going for a few days. I would come back for sure. Thumbs up. more

The Blew me away! 3/8/2011

Here is something to knock your socks off. One of the best new ideas in a long time. A blow dry bar has opened in the Pearl District. I loved my service. I got Divalicious Curls with volume and movement. I thought the service was excellent. The best style I have ever had. My stylist never takes the time to do Hollywood hair on me and this made me feel like I was ready for the red carpet. I go so many compliments on my hair. I cannot wait to go back. I loved that they use the paper towels to dry the hair...so environmentally friendly. So I don't know what the other reviewer thought but they were just as absorbent as a towel and it seem much cleaner and better for the environment if they recycle them. Location was easy as well. I parked in the garage under the Blow Dry Bar. I did not get the make-up but several people were doing make-up and lashes as well. It was so much fun I will be back. more

Meh! 2/15/2011

I was so excited to try this place after I spotted it in January. I have yet to find someone in PDX that has really mastered the art of a good blow-dry. Sadly, this place did not live up to my high expectations. If you're going to call yourself a BLOW-OUT Bar, then you should be really good at blowouts, no? The stylists I had was merely mediocre. Nothing like the stylists you get at the blow bars in NYC or L.A. It wasn't horrible or anything, but far from what I consider a great blow-out. The decor is really cute and cheerful, but I would have much rather they spent the money on training. It's all about the technique when it comes to blow-outs. Stylists are you listening? My search for a great blow-out continues. more
