Getting worse every day 5/15/2011

Possibly the worst bartenders and manager in the city. Rude, unhelpful, disinterested, more interestred in one another, closing early and getting 50% tips for doing... nothing. Clearly they have not worked before. You watch other bartenders in *real* bars work their butts off mixing drinks, juggling 100 custmers at once, handling kitchen and wait staff, dealing with rude drunk loud customers. These girls POUR wine, mostly screw top, in a bar that holds maybe 50 people when packed and still manage to botch the job. It would be one thing if the wine were amazing but it is average AND overpriced. For istance for abut the same price they charge for a glass of their Zin I can get 1/2 bottle of the same at Landmark for the same price whith MUCH nice service and much better ambience. Mostly though it is the service since the same bar and wine were great a few years back. Not knowing wine is one thing; not caring to know is another; making it clear to the customers you dont know and care as long as they a) dont interupt you or b) leave when you are tired of working is unforgiveable. Maybe the owner will get it one day; right now he seems happy to keep the money cow going. Classic story is he will one day ask how it all went bad so quickly. It didn't; it has been going on for 3+ years he/they just didn't notice or care. more

Quaint Place with a Romantic Setting 10/30/2008

I stumpled upon Bin 71 last night. The place is very small, offering about 20-30 total seats. The place was quite busy for Wednesday night and the drinks were farily priced. Beers were about 8 and wine -8-12/glass. This place is ideal to take a date for drinks and some finger foods. I didn't try any food, but the music was low enough to carry a great conversation. The only downside is that due to the size, getting two seats at the bar/table was a little difficult, but it's a great place and highly reccommended. Pros: Ambiance, Romantic Cons: Maybe a little too small more

My first & only time there my pocketbook was stolen. I was sitting at the bar and it was under a coat at my feet. According to some patrons there trying to help me locate it, it's been happening a lot there. The bartender couldn't have cared less and handed me a bill as I was leaving. I reminded her my wallet was in my stolen bag and she just shrugged. Luckily my friend who showed up to help me paid. And just last week a friend called to tell me it happened to the girl he was with so between me, the people that night who said they've been there when others had it happen and my friend last week, you'd think by now they'd install cameras or something but obviously no one there cares. Cons: epidemic of stolen pocketbooks and bartenders don't care more

Rude Female Bartenders 6/18/2008

I have been coming to this Bar since it opened years ago. The atmosphere is great, the food good for what they are trying to achieve, and the wine list is chosen wisely. But, the rude service is just unacceptable. The ownder also owns Barcibo close by- the manager is great, but again most of the females this guy employs to bait men are just rude. Rude. Pros: Nice Wine Selection Cons: Worst Service you will find on the UWS more

Great pre date place 11/2/2007

My girlfriend and I always stop by here for great wine and food before a movie or play. more

Great place to go for a drink 11/18/2006

This a very nice small wine room :) Pros: Nice wines Cons: crowded and sometimes difficult to find a seat more

Nice to have this one in the neighborhood 8/15/2006

It's great to have this little wine bar around especially since you don't see your typical young college bar crowd. The clientele is generally in it's 30's and on weekdays one can find mainly locals from the UWS packed into this little space. So if you just moved to the UWS it's a great spot to meet new people who live close by. Pros: neighborhood people, intimate, fun Cons: the music is sometimes too loud, get rid of the TV!! more

Great Little Place 7/22/2006

I work near Bin 71 and I can't tell you how happy I was to find it among all the offerings in this area. Bin 71 is a perfect place to meet your friends for a glass of vino after work. The wines are simply delicious. They have a really nice selection and if you like wine, you will leave here happy. Expect to pay $9-$16 dollars per glass. The food is delightful to, but it's a bit overpriced and the portions are very small. The meatballs are yummy, but they are $12 for 3 meatballs. This is the single drawback of this place. If you like cozy spaces, are need a glass of wine and on the UWS, you should check it out! Pros: great wine, food and space Cons: crowded more

great wine bar/cafe 6/26/2006

great place. wines = top notch. food = tight menu, but legit food. service = 2 girls that are half retarded. setting = dont plan on a lot of walking around. cost = expensive Pros: wine, food Cons: cute, but crappy, barmaids more

Great wine bar 6/16/2006

This is a fun spot and if you can get a seat you will enjoy the tapas. more

Best wine bar in Manhattan! 6/7/2006

Fantastic! Very welcoming wine bar. This place was packed on a Monday night! Great food and an unbelievable selection of fine wines. Also has some great beers on tap you won't find anywhere in the city! Great place for a lady to sit at a bar and have a glass of wine! more

good food and wine, but not inexpensive 5/18/2006

Good tapa, though not cheap and not the best tapa in town. But you won't say yech! Good WBTG. We spent $100 for 4 plates, 2 WBTG and 2 Pelligrino mediums. Crowded as hell by 6P. Young good looking crowd. Service is a little slow, mostly due to size. Have fun Pros: food , WBTG Cons: service, pricey more

Un-WINE Here!!!! 4/12/2006

The place is great, service ""IF NOT AT THE BAR"" is excellent, the food is superb, especially the meatballs. The bartenders seem to be in there own world and for the size of the bar two are really not needed. I sat at the bar several times, in which I drank and ate, my empty plate was overlooked for about 20 minutes, until one of the waiters took it away, again the bartenders don't do anything. The two guys that hustle all night are great and make the stay pleasurable. Wine list is good as well as the selection for beer! MY SUGGESTION HAVE THE OWNER BARTEND! Pros: FOOD/MUSIC, LAID BACK Cons: BARTENDERS, BARTENDERS, SMALL PLACE more

If it weren't for ""our guys""... 3/25/2006

I love this place. I am regular here, but what keeps me coming back is the two guys who work there, covering about 75% of the patrons. There are usually two bartenders behind the bar--always two young women who lack professionalism and are generally rude. If it were up to me, I'd replace the ""witchy bartendresses"" quicker than it takes most people to walk in, see how crowded ""the Bin"" is, turn around and leave. I come here for the great wine, good food and the outstanding service of ""the guys"", as my boyfriend and I so elegantly refer to them. Our guys are always there with a smile, recommending the best, new wine on the menu. They make this place what it is... I just hope they are compensated accordingly... Pros: Service (not at bar), Great wines, Great food Cons: Expensive, Bartenders are rude more

So So.. 1/14/2006

The wine selection is good, but a bit expensive. Small, small, small.. Bartenders were two young girls, acted like college girls. They were horsing around so much with each other behind the bar that the service wasn't so good. Seems to me if you're going to run a classy and expensive place, you should hire some appropriately professional bartenders. Thumbs down for the hiring manager. Pros: nice decor, good wine Cons: expensive, bad bartenders more

Excellent 1/1/2006

If you're clueless about food and wine, you won't like it here. Otherwise, if you can deal with the small space, the wine selection and tapas menu are outstanding. Have the codfish soup and tell me that's not the best $10 you've ever spent. Anyway, they do an excellent job here..... more

Horrible experience 12/29/2005

I had a horrible experience at this place. I was very excited when it opened in the neighborhood a few months ago and eager to try this place, but I will never go back. The bartenders were rude and offensive - the worst customer service I have experienced in a very long time. With all the other great places on the UWS, I would not recommend this place. more

Wonderful and cozy 10/24/2005

I went with a girlfriend on a Friday night. Amazingly we were able to get a seat! We had a wonderful time and loved the food and wine. I can't wait to go back on a week night when the crowd my be a little smaller and slightly less pompous. The owner stopped to say hello to us, and that personal touch was worth it! I will return! Pros: Owner, Great vibe, Great food Cons: crowded more

Great Wine Selection 9/29/2005

Nice to see a great wine bar on the UWS. Get a bottle, your money will go farther. Lots of good unique wines, also recommend the cheese, the brie melts in your mouth. Great place to take a date before or after dinner. Very quaint. Pros: wine choices, date place Cons: limited seating more

sardine can and some cheap wine 8/9/2005

Small can be cozy, but this is just uncomfortable. It was hot (if there was air conditioning inside you could not tell), and crowded - it was literally teeming with pompous old fools that love to pay too much for not much of anything. I went to the place expecting a lot more because of the favorable reviews. A word of caution - don't pay attention to the hype - this place is just barely mediocre. Cons: crowded, expensive, hot more
