Redmond's Best Kept Secret - The Big Picture 7/20/2006

What a great place to see a movie. Beats the typical movie theater by a mile. From the comfy couches and seating areas, to the fantastic popcorn with white Parmesan, this is the destination place to to a movie with a friend, or several. more

Why don't all movie theaters serve alcohol 5/17/2006

Niche movie theaters that stock a full bar have begun to appear in a few west coast cities, and I don't know why they haven't swept the nation. Big Picture delivers classic films in a small cozy theater that features its own bar. They'll even deliver drinks at your point of choice during the movie. Apparently they began hosting corporate events, but they clearly have hit the mark with the combination of films you love and drinks you love. more

Big Picture isn't Just for Films 3/17/2006

Big Picture is a theater that people may rent for events. I saw an author reading from his latest book there. It is small, but not too small, and serves alcohol. So if you want to see a movie like Sin City and have a drink, here you can. Their matinées are very reasonably priced. There are other rooms that groups rent for smaller events, and these are very elegantly decorated. And they do catering. It has many of the benefits of a private club, without the membership dues. more

Wine tasting, dessert and old romantic movie 2/6/2006

Last year we went to the Big Picture for our valentines day. It was great. First the Big Pictures is very cozy. They had a wine tasting event which was small bug good. Then they had a huge dessert table. Some really good stuff. And then we watched Moonstruck. It was great. Highly recommended. You pay one price for it all. more

Big Picture http://www.thebigpicture.net/ does events. I've only gone to see movies, and it's a beautiful facility. Might be worth looking into. more

Movies and spirits 8/21/2005

The Big Picture, a combination event space, bar, and theater, is a wonderful surprise. Located underneath El Gaucho, you walk into a den-like atmosphere where you are greeted by a full bar. Nooks and crannies abound, and the theater is intimate – and allows libations! With a rotating selection of films, and a new Redmond location, the Big Picture is sure to keep movie fans happy. more

Great views, great seats 8/17/2005

Big comfy seats, wine during a movie, no heads clouding your vision - Watching a movie at Big Picture is like being pampered. Plus, the daytime shows are cheaper than at the big, crammed, sticky floor theaters... And they play interesting, art house movies. The only down side is the reservation process is a little anxiety producing - you leave a message and just have to trust that they got it and that there will be space. But so far I've had no problems. more

Seattle's Best Kept Secret! 8/17/2005

If you live in Seattle, you must check out the Big Picture located under the El Gaucho restaurant. The theater plays 2nd run and indie films (i.e. Super-Size Me) and offers plush accommodations. You may order cocktails, beer or wine from the bar and situate yourself in the large, comfortable seats. You will also receive a champagne bucket filled with popcorn and enjoy the movie in an intimate theater that only seats about 30. Best of all, the ticket prices are far below regular theaters- weekdays $5.00 and weeknights $7.00. Note the theater is 21 and older. more

Unique movie experience 8/17/2005

I would highly recommend this movie theater as the best place for a movie date. The theater is in the basement of El Gaucho and you feel like you are entering a private club with a screening just for you. The theater is small but it shouldn't be any bigger. The seats are big and comfortable. Before going in, you can grab a drink at the bar and hang out in cozy chairs in little nooks. They also have very cool looking meeting rooms/small conference areas. more

Fantastic Boutique Movie Theater 8/16/2005

Big Picture is located under El Gaucho on 1st Avenue and provides a first-rate moviegoing experience. Big Picture (and its sister location in Kirkland) is a unique theater in that it as a full bar and patrons must be 21 or over. The theater is small and intimate, a great place for a drink and a date. Most of the films are indy or arthouse flicks, which only lend more credibility to Big Picture being a hip in-on-the-secret kind of place. Check their website for screening times, many of the showtimes during the week are at a substantial discount from the current rip-off at the chains (of course the movies are generally not in their first few weeks of release though). Definitely a great place to catch a flick without braving the malls and multiplexes! more

Fun Date Night 7/15/2005

The Big Picture is a great addition to Seattle. The movies are interesting, the seats are comfortable, and they serve popcorn in a champagne bucket. It has a swanky feel without being pretentious. You have to plan ahead, the schedule is unpredictable due to private events. Parking in Belltown can be tricky. more

Grade A venue, but the staff....oh my! 6/21/2005

This is a really cool, swanky cavernous venue located in the basement of El Gaucho in Belltown. It's awesome for a rainy winter day to escape to the jungles of animal print furniture, lush velvet drapes, and comfy movie theater seats. It is small, intimate, and non-commercialized although they have opened a second venue in Redmond and have started showing more mainstream films and less artisan films. And the discount nights make the Big Picture an affordable night out (as long as you don't order too many drinks). I love this place!! And I love to arrive early to lounge around in this sexy and sultry movie house and have a pre-movie drink. BUT, I have to say that on more occasions than not, the owners Mark and Katie, as well as other staff, have been extremely rude and air a certain level of arrogance that is appalling. Not only have I gone to many many movies here, but I have also rented the facility for private events and every time I have walked away without any warm and fuzzy feelings towards the staff. Believe me, I love this PLACE, but have vowed to never go back to support people that act like they just don't give a rip that you are handing your hard earned $$ over to them. more

Movies with brewskies 10/12/2004

This is one the best kept secrets in Seattle. The Big Picture, in the basement of El Gaucho, shows great films in an intimate setting with a bar attached. Yep- you can have your pint of Mac&Jacks while enjoying the flick. Originally, the space was set up for corporate events but they have been showing movies for a long time now and the beginning of the week always has great bargains- 2 for 1, 1/2 price, etc. What other movie theater delivers your popcorn to your seat and allows you sip a brewskie (legally) while entranced in a fine film? more
