Brought bike there on a Saturday, was told it would be worked on M or T. Came back following Saturday and it had not been touched. Told again they would get to it right away, come...

Friendly staff, chill vibe and quick service 5/28/2011

I went in here by chance a few weeks ago when I was riding on the 5 Boro tour, got a flat in or around Williamsburg, forgot how to use my CO2 cartridge (1st time using one) to fix the flat myself, was directed by tour marshals to a Tour rest area in Commodore Barry park that was supposed to have a repair tent but didn't...and then was directed to this little shop 5 blocks from the rest area. Because there wasn't a repair tent at the rest area, Bicycle Station was filled with other 5 Boro unfortunates who needed repairs...but the staff there was really cool with everyone who descended upon them en masse during the time I was in there, some with more serious mechanical problems than just a flat. The cool mechanic fixed my flat pronto, checked it thoroughly so got both the metal spike and the glass out, charged me a low rate (same price as the shop I use in East Harlem where I live) rather than taking advantage of the situation. Didn't make me feel stupid that I forgot how to use the CO2 cartridge or preferred to have them fix the flat at that point rather than just using their air pump and doing it myself. Absolutely no attitude, nothing but helpfulness and good will and no macho BS that I often experience in bike shops. If I lived in the area, I would definitely give Bicycle Station my business for parts, adjustments and more serious repairs. It's always so heartening to find down-to-earth, decent bike shops where you are not subjected to cooler-than-thou attitudes, condescending *friendliness*, or shoddy repair work by people who don't take you seriously yet demand your respect. Bicycle Station got me back on the road pronto, and with a smile on my face too. more

Great work, inexpensive, great vibe 6/28/2009

I went to the 171 Park Ave (at Adelphi) location for repair of a flat tire, general tune up and adjustment to handle bars. They did all this with an absolute minimum of fuss and in very little time for $55. They seemed to really love fixing bikes. I brought a book to read during the repair, because I do not live near the G line and wanted to ride the bike to and from the place. (The tire leak was slow enough to permit this.) They were happy to give extra attention, e.g., volunteering to go outside and check my seat height, angle and position adjustments. Good place. more

Dedicated to making it right 4/28/2009

I had a really minor problem that nevertheless required a number of visits, through no fault of theirs. There was no money in it for them, but I always felt that the staff (Austin, in particular, but everyone I dealt with) were completely dedicated to getting to a satisfactory solution -- to making sure I got what I needed. Also, no attitude, as I have a completely unglamorous work-a-day bike. Pros: Knowledgable, dedicated Cons: Distractable more

I love bikes 3/11/2009

I had the best most amazing experience buying my first serious tour bike there. Such a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Totally did not mind that I know nothing about bikes. They were so patient and taught me so much. Love love love this place! And I LOOOVE my bike!!! Best best, can't say enough, best bike experience. heart them so much. :) Pros: Awesome, friendly, knowledgeable staff Cons: being too awesome? more

Bicycle Station has relocated! 11/29/2008

Bicycle Station did not close! They have relocated - not too far from the Vanderbilt location. Pros: Excellent service, very knowledgeable mechanics, honest prices and good work more

Good Place ta git a wheel 7/17/2008

went in for the first time today. got me a new wheel for my mountain bike. Place was buzzing, customers young n old, people inside watching the tour, kids outside borrowing tools n pimpin their rides. Several mechanics jammed in the back crankin away. mike, rob, and all of the shop mechanics were very nice efficient, and thorough. They even changed my tar! Then I saddled up and rode away clean. more

Long delay, failure to find cause of a slow leak twice which was found quickly by another shop 6/13/2008

Brought bike there on a Saturday, was told it would be worked on M or T. Came back following Saturday and it had not been touched. Told again they would get to it right away, come back the following Saturday and it still had not been touched...but they did fix it then when I insisted. Granted they are busy, but they were clearly working on bikes that came in after mine at this point. Got the sense that there were two classes of customers. Pros: Busy, have been open for awhile, clearly there are happy customers Cons: slow at getting job done, did a poor job compare with another shop more

Great service. Great prices! No B.S. 6/5/2008

I was on the best bike ride of the year, when all of a sudden, it took about 5 times the amount of power to crank the pedals on my bike. I had been to R&A bikes before and they had quoted me $75. for just a tune up. I did some research here, and on Google, and decided to try the Bicycle Station, as it's also near where I live. Yes, the place was swamped! Still, if you can shed your impatient New York ways in about 10 or 15 minutes, the mechanic will come out and see you.. (or he did me..) and give you all the time you need to understand what's wrong with your bike. I wasn't in a super rush to get it fixed as I had a back up, but he got it done on schedule, and when I rode it back the ride was so much better, that maybe I'll put off buying that new bike for a while. So.. end result. He 1>fixed the problem. 2>Tuned up the bike really well. 3> Changed the brake pads.. and all for a price well below what others would charge for the tune-up alone. (I hope he doesn't raise his prices when he reads this!). While I was in the shop, all of the people were extremely pleasant to deal with, and when I asked a question, were enthusiastic about helping. They really have a great crew there, and I'd recommend this place to anyone. Just a great experience. Pros: Great prices. Excellent work. Great Staff. Cons: Really cramped, and really busy.. but all for the right reasons. People LIKE taking their bikes there! more

where i go for bike repair 6/3/2008

i've been to most of the bike shops in downtown NYC/brooklyn and this is my favorite. i do most of my own repair work myself but when i need something this is where i go. they have gone above and beyond on several occasions for me. you might have to wait a little bit but be patient there's a reason they're always so busy. they charge fair prices and do solid work. highly recommended. P.S. great wheel builders too... more

Good fast service and better than expected prices 2/1/2008

This shop is a perfect example of what is best about NYC: a small, intimate, unpretentious store with knowledgeable people. Took in a set of wheels for periodic truing, the job was done while I waited and I paid about half what I've paid at other (good) stores. No complaints. I will be back. more

Poor customer service, poor repairs. 7/18/2007

I really wanted to like this shop - it's only a few blocks from my apartment and its a locally owned business. The owner seems pretty nice when he's not inundated with customers, and prices for parts and service seem to be in line with other small shops, too. Pros: Local small business in the neighborhood Cons: Everything else more

My favorite bike shop in NYC! 4/30/2007

I love these people! I got a custom bike last fall from the place and they offered 3 years of maintenance. I've brought it by for little things and they've been so helpful. They are such sweethearts and they gave me a great deal. I couldn't say enough good things about the place - they care about what they do, do it well and are so friendly. Open Sundays too! Pros: Service! Cons: they recently had to stop carrying Bianchi frames.. I got a great one though :)! more

They'll Fix You Up 2/23/2006

Bicycle Station concentrates on repairs, although they can order new bikes and fit you for custom Land Shark bikes. Owner Mike Rodriguez is a former racer, but makes the effort to help beginners. He is also the best bike mechanic I've found in New York. If you want a nice, reliable bike, want it to be comfortable and/or fast and aren't trying to impress all of your nouveau riche friends, this is the place to go. He can even build you a used bike with various combinations of old frames and old and/or new parts. I've been a customer of Mike's--in this shop and his previous one--for nearly two decades now. Pros: ace mechanic, helpful staff, fair prices Cons: cramped, could hire more help more
