BETZ Ophthalmology Associate

Owner Message

  • Betz Ophthalmology Associates has been a leader in eye care solutions in Central Pennsylvania for over four decades. As a leader in specialized eye care as well as a pioneer surgical procedures, Dr. Betz and his staff have taken care of the needs of their patients time and time again, making them a repeated referral to many people. Experience Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine specializing in the anatomy, function and diseases of the eye. The word has its roots in the Greek language "ophthalmos" meaning "eye" and "logos" meaning "word" ophthalmology means "The science of eyes." Like optometrists (Doctors of Optometry), ophthalmologists prescribe glasses and contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists undergo additional training and are actually MDs?medical doctors who perform delicate eye surgery. Many of the region's optometrists refer patients to Dr. Betz when there's a need for advanced diagnosis and treatment. After four years of medical school and a year of internship, every ophthalmologist spends a minimum of three years of residency (hospital-based training). During residency, the eye MD receives special training in all aspects of eye care, including prevention, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions and diseases. An ophthalmologist may spend an additional year or two in training in a subspecialty. Most (including Dr. Betz) become board certified by passing a rigorous two-part examination given by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Glasses and Contact Lenses Not only do we provide advanced surgical and laser treatment at the East West Eye Institute, but we also provide the full spectrum of glasses and contact lens care. We have board certified optometrists and licensed opticians onsite that can prescribe and fit you with glasses and or contact lenses and answer any questions you may have about which is right for you. One Stop Shopping After your eye examination, feel free to browse the complete optical dispensary, located onsite in each of our four offices. Our knowledgeable staff members are ready to assist you. We offer competitive pricing with the added convenience of ?one stop shopping?. From the popular Transitions Lenses and Varilux glasses technology, the latest in fashion and designer frames, we are confident we can find the option that is right for you.
