scammers 7/18/2013

If I could give less I would. I was on their site and they had a graphex lens listed for $62. I printed the page off and went down. They pulled a few lenses from the shelf and said all 3 were $250, $200, & $300. I compared the serial number from the one on the website for $62 to the $300 lens they showed me in the store. The serial numbers matched exactly. When I confronted them about the issue they tried to play it off like I am some idiot and dont understand photography or the internet. Well unfortunately for them, I am a photographer full time and I am pretty damn tech savvy. So now the world will know how they like to try and scam people out of money. more

prices not competitive, staff is wack 1/23/2009

called bernies today for an item that ranges from 12 to 28 dollars online. bernies told me they had the item in stock for 50 dollars!! i'm sure they just made this price up. its nowhere near the other available prices. i mentioned i had quotes for it in the much lower price range thinking they might offer to match the price. the salesman was defensive and unfriendly. on further reflection, i decided it would not be advisable to buy from someone who was so anxious to take advantage of me. i've had bad experiences there before and will not be back. more

Out of date 11/14/2005

This place really doesn't have anything. Not for the casual consumer, the prosumer, or the actual professional. There is nothing here that you cannot purchase online or even at a chain retailer for cheaper (with better service). The draw of small stores like Bernie's used to be the friendly attention you would get... unfortunately, that is not the case here. I wouldn't stop in unless I ran out of film as I was passing the door. more

Bad service 8/20/2005

I have tried using the Bernies about 6 times, and everytime it has been a disappointment. I brought in some to get prints made for Xmas gifts. I picked them up and all the pictures looked horrible! specks of dirt and dust, and contrast that would make you blink uncontrollably! I asked them to reprint them and they said they'd have have them ready the next morning... I went around noon the next day and they weren't ready. more

Limited selection, some staff are unfriendly 8/20/2005

Bernie's is an old school camera store that might not make sense anymore. Their website has claimed to have online catalog browsing "soon" for several years now. Their stock of modern equipment is minimal and their prices are not at all competitive with national chains or NYC mail order camera stores. It's disappointing that Pittsburgh's local camera stores (Kadet, the Fotoshop) can't seem to compete with the internet, Best Buy, and Ritz. But a visit to Bernie's will make you wonder if you're really missing that much. For the rare customer who wants to buy a packet of Dektol or a Vivitar flash bracket on short notice, they might be a good option. more
