As a psychiatrist myself, I was very reluctant to work with a psychiatrist in the same city as as where I work and live. I also worried that they would not be able to tell me anything I , or my colleagues, didn't know. I struggled with depression for many years and was on a combination of medication that worked ""well enough"" but had a lot of side effects. Once a year I would try to stop them and after a month or so would need to go back on.\r
Last year at the annual American Psychiatric Association meeting I asked one of the top people in the field who had been teaching the psychopharmacology class if they had any suggestions in New York State. They recommended Dr. Bernadette. I have to say that I am very grateful to have found her. She was clearly professional and easy to talk to. She made me feel comfortable right away. When we finished with the evaluation she made some suggestions, which I decided to try. They were different then what I had done in the past. After a few visits she adjusted my medication and not only do I feel better then I had in a long time and and no significant side effects.
