A year ago, Ben replaced the engine in my 1999 camry with a low mileage used one. It's been very good, way better than the other option which was to replace the car. I looked at the negative comments. I think that's a result of that fact that Ben's shop takes care of mostly older cars. Older cars can be tough to get 100% fixed 100% of the time, because they tend to have lots of problems (kind of like old people... heh). And face it, some people are hard to please. My impression and experience is that he is honest and does good work. I've done most of my own car work for years (my dear dad taught me such useful stuff), including rebuilding a VW from the engine up. I would have replaced the Camry's engine myself if it weren't such a heavy and involved job. So I know at least a little bit about what I'm looking at when I go to a mechanic. And I recommend Ben highly, especially if you are staring down the choice of replacing an engine or replacing an otherwise good car. My camry, after $2800 for engine replacement, is way better than any reasonable used car I might have bought, and that option was looking close to $10k for anything half decent.True, his waiting room is modest. If you require slick digs, then Ben's may not be for you. If you want honest good work on your japanese car, he's a good choice. Best of luck to you.
