Best steakhouse I've ever been to 1/28/2011

Admittedly, I'm not a huge steak eater and we don't visit steakhouses too often but I think we know what a good steak should taste like. And this one is a real winner. The one huge plus about the place is that you don't need to go all the way to Brooklyn to enjoy Peter Luger style steak. The decor and service is extremely relaxed and friendly. The steak itself is just absolutely divine. The shellfish tower is supposed to be very good, but we decided to pass on that one and head straight for the steak. Perfectly cooked and perfectly accompanied by the sides. You need to try it out if you haven't been. more

One of my top 3 meal in my lifetime!!! 10/26/2010

My mother and I took my daughter to NY this weekend for her tenth birthday. We asked the concierge on a recommendation on a good steakhouse -- and WOW did we get a good tip. We had 5:30 reservations -- which made little to no wait on the food. The staff was fun and VERY helpful. The Steak for 1/2/3 is what you need to get depending on how many people you have. We got Steak for 2 -- for 3 of us. Perfect amount. Perfect steak! Everything that was served to us was delightful!!! Next time in town... we are going back there. more

Superb staff and service...awesome burger too! 10/10/2010

i am always greeted warmly when i walk into this establishment. the host and/or owner always recognizes me. i usually have a burger at the bar...what a grade beef, broiled medium well to perfection - with delicious hand cut fries, lettuce and tomato. the staff is warm, friendly, and competent, just right - not phony nor over the top...these guys know what they are doing. enjoy. This burger is as good as the one in brooklyn or great neck :) lol. more

Great Steakhouse! 6/3/2010

Took my Godmother there for her birthday and had one of the best meals ever. Everything was cooked to perfection and the waiter could not be more attentive and accomodating. Would definitely go back! more

on fire! 4/6/2010

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful night at Benjamin. It was his birthday and I picked the restaurant (because he's the meat eater, I'm just the half & half meat and seafood lover. Benjamin has turned our world upside down *:) Now I become a meat eater (but only at Benjamin!). We finished the steak for two!!! Yummy! From the hosts to the maitre d' to the server and bus boy...all I could remember was like living in ""heaven."" We were being pampered! *:) I never wanted to leave the place. We received complimentary after dinner drinks, my boyfriend's fav ice-cream plus a friendly birthday song by the crew *:))) The place is beautiful and magnificent. It's like a dream come true. Everything went so well. 2 thumbs-up! Thanks SO much! Pros: Romantic view + Excellent staff more

Superb Dining Experience 11/28/2008

Went to Benjamin's for Thanksgiving. Opted for regular menu. Had shrimp and crabmeat cocktails which they served to be shared with my companion. She had ceasar salad. I had iceberg wedge with Russian dressing. Even the bread was top notch. Had Porterhouse for 3. My date likes to take home the extra for breakfast and lunch. Peas and onions was the vegetable. Desert was fresh berries which were fresh and excellent. Finished with decaf coffee and decaf cappuchino. Everything was perfect. Service was great. . Pros: Excellent Food, ambience, service. Easy on street parking. Cons: Wedge of lettuce was okay. But not quite what you'd get say at Wolfgang's. more

Perfect Dinner 11/21/2008

This was my second time at Benjamins. Its one of the best steakhouses in NY. Service is always excellent and the steaks are cooked to perfection to the way u want. First time I went there I had the Rib-Eye medium and was great second time i had ""Steak for two"" medium rare and was just perfect. I recommend the german potatoes for the side. They have a great wine list. And is worth every single dollar you spend. Thanks to Benjamin and Victor. Pros: perfect steak, great wine list, great service more

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 11/3/2008

This was one of the better steakhouses I've been to in NY- hands down. We sat on the balcony for my girlfriend's birthday and it was very romantic. We had the porterhouse for two, which was perfectly charred, tender and just enough for both of us. After being told that the fireplace actually works, I can't wait to go back during the holidays! I've already recommended it to a few friends, and will continue doing so. Well worth every penny Pros: Great food, service and setting Cons: A little pricey, but worth it more

Not So Great 9/1/2008

I love trying steakhouses. This one was a bit of a waste of time. The over cooked mid grade tuna came out after the tasteless baked clams. My freind had the steak. Said it was good, but small. The lamb was a bit of a surprise. It was the loin and also tasteless. Priced ok, but the desserts were VERY expensive. Cons: tight dining room more

Fantastic Service and Great Steak 8/24/2008

Came here for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend and my brother. No wait. I was late and they still seated my party before I came in. Steak was DELICIOUS. Atmosphere was casual and friendly. Room was well-lit, which I love after getting a food coma from ingesting so much steak and red wine. Best part was that they remembered my note on the reservation to bring the dessert out with a candle for the birthday boys. A group of staff sang happy birthday and gave us a super strong complimentary cocktail to top off the meal. I have already recommended the restaurant to other steak lovers. I will come back again and again and again. Pros: Great and Quick Service, Delicious Steak, Tasty Desserts more

The whole package ! 4/20/2008

Last night was my 2nd experience at Benjamin's, and it was even better than I remembered. So much so that I figured I would write a brief review. First off, let me just say that the ever looming question of ""what's the best steakhouse in NY"" will never be answered unanimously; there are too many variables to consider. That said, I've been to what's considered New York?s top steakhouses and Benjamin ranks right up there at the very top. For me, a steakhouse or any restaurant for that matter needs to deliver on ALL fronts, not just the steak. To those who hale Peter Lugers as the mecca of all steakhouses, I won't argue that they are serving some of the best steak around. However, when you factor in the entire experience, hence my ALL comment they come up way short. If sitting next to some tourist from Kansas, wearing a tank-top and jeans is your idea of a great night out, then I can understand the love of Lugers. Benjamin on the other hand serves steak that's as good as Lugers if not better. The porterhouse for 2 was cooked to perfection, it has a great crust and you can tell the meat has been aged, great flavor. The layout is fantastic (slip the hostess a 20 and ask for a corner table next to the fireplace) they know how to take care of people here, unlike the gruff service elsewhere. The bacon is a must; the sides are fantastic, as was desert. My only slight complaint would be their wine-list. It seems to cater to California and can be somewhat limited. It's more than adequate though and I'm sure their sommelier will be adding to it in the future, hint hint. Pros: Steak, space, ..steak more

Hands down 4/15/2008

Hands down...Benjamin Steak House is the best place for steak in New York City. The cuts are dry-aged and cooked to perfection and the service is impeccable. I felt like Sinatra in the dining room, which was very Old World. Look no further than Benjamin Steak House for fine cuts and finer service. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Superb Steakhouse! 2/20/2008

One of my favorite steakhouses for a few reasons: more

THE BEST 9/5/2007

I'll keep this short. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this place. The Porterhouse, the Room, Wine and Service, just unmatchable. By the way did I tell you that I love it! Pros: Ecstatic Steak, Gracious Service, Divine Room Cons: It's not in my neighbourhood! more

Great birthday dinner 8/20/2007

My boyfriend took me to Benjamin's for my birthday. We had a reservation at 8pm and were seated promptly. I loved the decor of the place, with lights low and dark leather accented furniture. I ordered a few pre-dinner martinis, which were well made and strong. I had crab cakes to start with and my bf had the lobster bisque. For main course I had the chilean sea bass and my boyfriend a filet mignon. Both were excellent. I also had a side order of mashed potatoes. The portions are HUGE (i felt like i had a half sea bass) and I could not finish mine. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak too. As it was my birthday, my bf had asked the staff ahead of time for a cake for me. The manager and the waiters brought it out and sang to me, which was very nice. A lot of people in the restaurant also clapped at the end. Yes, the place is expensive, but quality is great and you definitely get a large portion of whatever you order. Pros: Good service, great food, great atmosphere Cons: Pricey, which isn't really a con, you get what you pay for! more

A pleasant surprise 7/31/2007

Frankly speaking, before stumbling in Benjamin Steakhouse last Friday night, I had never heard of it before. As a steak lover I was intrigued to go and try it out, specially after finding out that Peter Lugers former chef works there now. To my pleasant surprise the place was excellent. As you cross the long corridor leading you in you suddenly walk into this vast restaurant space with old NY architecture, high vaulted ceilings, and a bridge overarching the dining room. Quite magnificent... and the main reason for being there, the steak, was truly superb. I don't think I've ever had steak that was so tender and so perfectly cooked. I also quite liked the staff. They were very helpful and accommodating, truly they were there to please. I?ll definitely go back! Pros: Incredilbe porterhouse, magnificent space, great service more

Everything was excellent 7/1/2007

The two bad reviews written on 5/31 - the two ""bad"" reviews written - i'm really surprised to see two bad reviews for the same place by two different members - which is very surprising to me, especially for the fact that i was dinning at Benjamins the same day - and i remember taking many glances around the dinning room and seeing everyone very satisfied - so i can't believe two different people would have the 'same"" sort of reaction to a restaurant that was nothing less than absolute perfection. I was wondering what people had to say for Benjamins so i came here to check and i'm really surprised such reviews would even exist for benjamins because i've dined their several times other than that day - and never have i been let advice to these people would be to give it another chance because i'm not sure what the situation was or what happened - but i know that you won't be disappointed if you go back!! The wise always check and try themselves rather than rely on others --because opinions are sometimes biased based on personal feelings and things of that sort..----how many resturants have recieved horrible reviews by the press but yet satisfy well---the best advice is give it a try - if you have and were let down go again and i'm sure your opinion will change and if you haven't been there yet --trust me the food and the sight are absolutely beautiful and unique - no other steakhouse is designed as Benjamins and the waiters are really great more

Fabulous Steak, Great Service, Great Ambiance 6/3/2007

Steak eaters! If you have discovered Benjamin then you've found your Valhalla!!! Benjamin's is truly the steak eaters paradise. The best porterhouse steak to be found in Manhattan, and it is just as good as Lugers (Brooklyn). Since the first time I've gone to Benjamin?s, I've become addicted, I have not been to another steakhouse since. Truly, there's no need. The place is gorgeous, the wait staff is very attentive and friendly, and they've got a great wine list. Oh, and you can take your wife or girlfriend if she does not eat steak, because they have exellent fish and sea food. I've recommended the place to a number of friends and they all loved it. If I could eat steak every day, I would ""at Benjamin's""! Pros: Porterhouse from Heaven, Cons: I've yet to think of one! more
