r. Randal Benefield was born and raised in the Akron, Ohio suburb of Munroe Falls. He attended The College of Wooster, majoring in chemistry and playing wide receiver for the Fighting Scot football team. Dr. Benefield received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Ohio State University in 1987, practiced one year in Columbus then relocated to Raleigh in 1988, joining, along with orthodontist, Dr. Robert Kent, the family dental practice of Dr. John Pfefferle. Drs. Benefield and Kent bought their respective practices in the early 1990's and have since moved to the buildings where they now practice. In addition to his dental degree, Dr. Benefield has completed extensive coursework in Occlusion, TMJ disorders and comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry through NGA of California and the world renowned L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Key Biscayne, Florida, as well as numerous other continuing education courses. He is a member of the ADA and Academy of General Dentistry and strives to maintain current knowledge of the many advances that dentistry has undergone since his graduation from dental school. Dr. Benefield has a son, Jonathan, a freshman at Broughton High School and a daughter, Emily, a sophomore at Elon University. In addition to dentistry, Dr. Benefield has a strong interest in music, playing drums for The Johnny Folsom 4, a Johnny Cash tribute band that plays festivals and shows in Raleigh and around the country. He and his family enjoy travel and sports as well.
