Editorial review from Citysearch 6/22/2017

We will be filing a claim as soon as everything is unpacked and I have all of the pictures.\r \r We chose Bekins for our move from Thousand Oaks, CA to Navarre, FL after getting quotes from three moving companies and receiving positive reviews from our friends. However, I would describe our move as anything but positive. Moving day, May 31, 2017, was total chaos. The two â??moversâ?? started loading up boxes and taking them out of our apartment before the man taking inventory could attach numbered stickers and record the items. He kept yelling at them to slow down. Furniture items were hap-hazardly covered with old blankets or taped together. My husband oversaw the garage and was upset with the movers for turning his tool boxes upside down, displacing tools. Our belongings left in three enclosed pods in a small moving truck and were to be stored until a driver was assigned.\r \r The following week I called Bekins customer service to find out if our belongings had left CA yet and was told that our â??driverâ?? was waiting on one more load and was scheduled to leave LA on June 8 and arrive in Navarre by June 14. On, Monday June 12, my husband received a call from the driver saying he would be arriving by June 17. On June 13, I called customer service again to recheck the arrival date and was told the driver was in Georgia and would arrive on June 15 in a Wheatonâ??s truck.\r \r On June 14, my husband and I watched as an unmarked truck pulled up. The driver, Larry, greeted us, casually walked over to two men who were standing by a black pick-up truck parked in our neighborâ??s yard and asked them if they could â??helpâ?? unload. I watched as he paid them in cash. We thought our belongings would be arriving in those same three pods, but not so, and we soon found out the two men were anything but movers. Boxes were brought in, smashed in, split open and turned upside down, and piled on top of each other. Several of the plastic storage bins I had used and had securely taped shut were missing and the items from them had been thrown into two Bekins boxes. Furniture was brought in and they had no idea how to put anything back together. One of our bookcases was brought into the garage in more than a dozen pieces and the matching bookcase was barely hanging together. The driver did say that was how he picked them up from storage and did write up a report which he gave us to file a claim. When the truck was empty, the driver handed me papers to sign and he proceeded to close up his truck. The two â??moversâ?? called me over and asked me for more money. I simply said, â??If you want more money, go talk to my husband.â?? I walked back into the house in tears.\r \r As of June 20, we are still unpacking. In addition to the broken bookcases and items thrown into Bekins boxes, we have found that items from some plastic storage boxes had been gone through and moved to other plastic storage boxes. Two of my husbandâ??s wooden tool boxes had been broken into (both locks were taken apart). As far as the smashed boxes, I am very glad I bought heavy duty Home Depot moving boxes and used rolls and rolls of bubble wrap. Out of 40+ boxes, I have only found one broken teacup and one picture frame with the glass broken. Our two directorsâ?? chairs are missing the canvas back support. In the scheme of things, we are not really that bad off. But, what frustrates and angers us more than anything is how carelessly and unprofessionally our belongings were handled. more

NIGHTMARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! I scheduled Beacons last week for a move on a Monday. All packed up and ready to go. They were told to arrive at 9 am. At 8 am they showed up , an hour early. The three guys had a bad attitude the moment I met them. When they realized it was a third story move, they didn’t want to move us. The head OLD guy (over 55 yrs old), proceeded to go downstairs and call Beacons and tell them he didn’t want to move us. Beacons knew it was a third story move and every item to be moved prior to these three guys came. The old guy came back upstairs and told us he wasn’t going to move us and literally left in the truck. Now, no move what do we do? I called Beacons local office and corporate and they said the old guy had been with the company for over 20 years and they would abide with his decision. Wow! They were quite arrogant about it. Hmmm, so a driver can pick and choose what to move, never heard of this. \r I called Rose Bowl Movers and scheduled a move immediately. They were awesome and hard workers and cost me 50% less than Beacons. When going with a moving company, doesn’t really matter how long they say it will take, if they send old guys with attitudes it will take you twice as long and cost you twice as much. Beacons attitude is respect the union worker, not caring about their business since they don’t own it themselves. Young energetic companies do what it takes to make your move go well, that means business to them in the future. Beacon old guys simply don’t care. What an experience.\r more

DO NOT USE BEKINS MOVING SOLUTIONS. I contracted a move with Bekins from Los Angeles to Northern California using their Chatsworth location. I used their crate service, storage service and local and long distance move services over a period of 6 months to the tune of $10,000. Once the sale is made you must constantly call to get any information and the company is very unorganized. more

RUN AND HIDE 12/22/2011

AS IF MOVING IS NOT STRESSFUL ENOUGH WAIT UNTIL YOU MEET BEKINS. It will put you right over the edge. Forget about saving anything or having memories they will be all gone. You will be lied to treated like a dog and the price will change every time you open your mouth. When they get your stuff on the truck you are held hostage. That is probably all fine if they just would deliver it . But that does not happen. Nothing you gave them is either there or the same. MY ADVICE IS RUN AND HIDE WHEN YOU HEAR THE NAME BEKINS. IF YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE CHATSWORTH OFFICE FORGET IT OVER FOR YOU GIVE YOUR STUFF TO CHARITY IT IS BETTER OFF. The worst experience of my life. more
