Beefy Lawn Sprinklers

I contracted with Mr. Avery to install a Sprinkler System in my yard in May 2009. He stated it would take 3 days to complete the job and I would have a 4 Year Parts and Labor Warranty with the installation so we set a start date. Mr. Avery arrived on the 12 May 2009. I gave him a check for 50% of the cost of the job and he began the work. The next day he showed up late in the afternoon stating that he had an emergency at his last job a broken water line that he had to dig up and repair. He completed the job on the 15th of May 2009 when I paid him the balance. I questioned him about the type of sprinklers he installed. They did not seem up to the job. He insured me they were the best for the job. We let the system perform its task for about 6 weeks when it was noticed that areas of the yard was not getting water. I contacted Mr. Avery and he asked if I had cleaned the filter which I had then asked how long I had the system watering. When I told him he stated that the yard was not getting enough water and I needed to change the watering time to 1 hour per zone. I made this change and there was very little improvement. I contacted Mr. Avery again and he came out and stated that the problem was not the Sprinkler system but the ground was too hard and it had not been aerated plus I had grubs. I pointed out that one of the sprinklers had a horse shoe shape of dead grass around it and that one of the sprinklers was only putting out to about 6 feet. This was a 360 degree sprinkler in the middle of the yard. He went over and looked at it. He changed a couple of heads he stated he had put the wrong type in when he installed the system because he didn’t have the right ones with him at the time of the installation. I used a grub insecticide and still had the same problems. I continued to call but never got any return calls. I finally used a work phone and got through to him and about a week later he showed up and looked at the system. When I came out of the house he stated he had made some adjustments that should improve the performance. I then told him that we also were having problems with the drip system he installed in the garden and I wanted him to change the hose he had installed. He stated he would once the garden was thinned out. Once this was done I was to give him a call. A couple weeks later I was able to contact him and set a date of 30 September when he would come out and change the hose. He contacted me and told me because he had hurt his shoulder and the doctor put him on 2 week’s profile. He said to call him around the 13th of October to remind him. I started making calls until late November with no answer and no return calls. I stopped calling until spring when using a work phone a number he did not block. I did get a hold of him and set a date for him to come out to replace the hose. He showed up and replaced the hose and again checked a few heads. He stated he had replaced the head on the sprinkler that had the horse shoe problem and left. After about two months I started calling again because the yard was still in the same shape as last year. I got no answers to my calls and no return calls to date. I had to go a buy replacement heads that was suppose to be part of the Warranty to attempt to fix these problems Mr. Avery is not dependable. Once he is paid you have a very hard time trying to get him to honor the Warranty. more

We hired Beefy Lawn on 3/3/2010 to install sprinklers, put in landscape curbing and lay new sod for a 0.75 acre lot. We agreed this job would start as the weather permitted beggining with him putting in the water system and then leveling the dirt to prep for the sod. Months went by, many with very nice days and no work was done, instead Mr. Avery would "stop by" and advise "we'll be back tomorrow". The work was finally completed 5/8/2010 (not without numerous calls from us, including one call to have the curbing redone as it was done incorrectly) with a FOUR YEAR PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY. We have called Mr. Avery numerous times to fix certain items that have broken OR were not done as agreed and either get no response or he will say he's coming and never call or show up. We will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and hiring a lawyer. I would strongly suggest using ANYONE else no matter how competitive his bid is....you'll save yourself money on attorney fees. Pros: seems know what he's talking about Cons: quick to take your money but never shows up for work more

I contracted Beefy Lawn to complete a portion of my vinyl fence. The price was very competitive and labor was minimal so I asked them to complete the job. I was told the job would be ordered and installed within 10 days. It is now about 6 weeks later. I have had to call multiple times to only get a voice mail. Than the owner would show up and say there was a problem with his phone and the job would be done within a few days. That has happened twice. Finally he showed up with his two sons and installed all of my fence except for the gate. He told me he had to custom build the gate and it would be done and installed within a few days. It has now been two weeks and I have not heard from him. I have called four times, leaving messages and paging his cell phone. It seems to me the reason is that I am a small job with barely a $100 in labor costs and perhaps some minmal dollars are made in materials. The compnay concentrates a larger jobs to pay the bills and keep things rolling. I would not mind so much if I had been dealt with directly and told the job would take a while to complete. So if you are ok waiting around on their time table use them as the price seems to be right. If you want something done in a certain time frame avoid them at all costs. more
