It was delicious. Hope they will offer delivery soon. Also, there are no drinks included on their online gubhub menu. more

Best Bloody Mary's in Town 10/27/2011

I have been to Beavers 2 times so far (after a referral from a friend) and am afraid that I have discovered my new addiction; Bloody Mary's. The first time we went was on a Saturday and ended up ordering their original Bloody Mary, which was phenomenal... Then we went back on a Sunday and surprisingly discovered the secret (or at least it was to us) special Bloody Mary menu which began the start of my addiction...The Bacon Infused Bloody Mary special is ridiculously good and they only serve them on Sundays! Thank goodness they don't serve them throughout the week or I would be in big trouble. One other thing....the dude with the long hair was the funniest server I think I have ever encountered....if you see a pony tail, ask to sit in his section! more

Never had anything less than awesome 7/14/2010

I had wanted to go to Beavers for a few months, when I finally went a few weeks ago, and I keep coming back. I have tried the Big A$s po-boy, amazing, and i am a po-boy snob... I have also tried the texa-quillas for brunch with one of their amazing Bloody Mary's (mine was made with tequila, but the bacon bloody mary was also great).. I have most recently had the brisket tacos, they were unbelievable, light but filling, and came with a salad that was also great. I also had the their House Punch with some friends. Everytime I have been I have had amazing service, the wait-staff is fun and they have a great personalities. I can't wait to go back, and bring friends back with me... The Mac & Cheese is amazing, get it with whatever you order, it is so worth it! Pros: Great Service, Great Drinks, Amazing Food, Fun Atmosphere Cons: the parking isn't ideal more

Beaver Makes You Happy 6/15/2010

I was having a reunion with some of my friends from college and jumped at the chance to visit more places located on Washington. I had always heard that Washington Avenue was a haven for young and employed professionals and was looking for a new scene to check out. I can say that Beaver's is a lively place that fosters community dining and creativity. Mixed drinks like: the marigold, the cherry limeaid, blueberry, and the hard punch definitely made me like this place. The Knocked UP was simply heavenly and the Nut Burger was a welcomed, and unique change from any burger that I have ever eaten. The only downside to this place is the service. Waiters forgot orders and tool long times to get drinks even at non peak hours. I might give this place a second chance, that is, if I can find a place to park... Pros: Incredible Food and Unique Drinks Cons: Pricey, Parking, Bad Service more

InCREDible 3/19/2010

My wife and I are vegetarians. We had checked out the menu online and thought we would give it a try. The BBQ Tofu and the Beaver Nut Burger are outstanding. So many different flavors. For a drink, my wife ordered the Forecast, and asked for the rim to be salted. I'm not a fan of vodka based drinks, usually, but the habanero infused vodka is wonderful. I tried the Smoky Julep, which is also very good. Beaver's also has a long list of quality beers. We had no problems with service whatsoever. Is tomorrow too soon to go back...? Pros: drinks, food Cons: perhaps the parking more

Not worth it! 11/23/2009

Way over priced for BBQ in Texas. Plenty of BBQ joints in Houston serve better BBQ for a quarter of the price. The seating is set up so you get to have dinner with complete strangers. I don't mind the picnic table atmosphere that you might find at GoodeCompany , but this place wants to charge you $30 a pop. Pros: Good service Cons: Food and seating more

Horrible service, food okay but overpriced 11/4/2009

First time I went to Beaver’s was a couple weekends ago on a Saturday afternoon. The place was moderately crowded but not packed. Just went for drinks on the porch. We were seated at a dirty table (bottles, trash, etc.). The waitress new we were there and we got her attention a few times but it still was twenty minutes without a drink order. We gave up and left. It wasn't worth complaining to someone as I wasn't going to give them any money after that delay.\r \r Being the optimist that I am I decided to try Beaver’s for lunch with some coworkers yesterday. We got there at 11:30 and the place was pretty much dead. There were maybe 4 tables plus ourselves. It took too long to be seated. The waitresses kept switching who was serving us. It took 15 minutes to put in an order, another 30 minutes to get our meals, and another 15+ to get the check after requesting it multiple times. We finally got out of there about 12:40. The service was way too slow for the weekday business crowd. \r \r On the plus side the food was good. I liked the fried chicken, juicy with a nice spicy skin. The chocolate chip pie was pretty good too. However, I had to eat it at the office as it took forever to get in and out of that place. The others enjoyed their meals and thought they were good (not great) but not worth the price for lunch.\r \r All said and done, I won’t be going back here unless they beef up the service.\r Pros: Food tasted good and big portions, decor, porch Cons: VERY sloooooooooowww service, price more

Too Proud 10/16/2009

Granted, he's a good chef. But he's just too proud with the prices. We went for lunch one day. We were greeted after 10 minutes of standing there, and got seated outside finally.\r \r The menu's we were given had no prices. After getting sick of having the waiter run off after asking what each item was, we just ordered. \r \r I had a rack of ribs (which were tiny, no meat on these things) a side of potato salad and a side of coleslaw. I had no alcoholic drinks. I paid 32 dollars for my meal. \r \r No thanks. Cons: Expensive more

Could be a fun place 9/4/2009

I would not recommend this place unless the service and cleanliness improved. The prices are a little high for bad service. I noticed some employees eating and drinking on the job. This is disturbing. This place had a fun atmosphere but all these negatives make it not worth going to. Pros: drink selection is good and food not bad Cons: terrible service, is this place clean? more

DOUCHE HQ? 7/16/2009

JULY 15,2009 BEAV'S WAS HOST TO A REDBULL PARTY. IF YOU LIKE TO PARTY LIKE A RETARD THIS MIGHT BE FOR YOU. OF IF YOU LIKE ED HARDY OR AFFLICTION BRANDS YOU WILL LOVE THIS DOUCHE-TINATION. THE BBQ SUCKED. HOW EXACTLY DO YOU DRY OUT A PULLED PORK SHOULDER? THE BRISKET WAS FLAVORLESS. IT HAD A GOOD SMOKE RING BUT NO FLAVOR. THEY USED THE ""TEXAS CRUTCH"" TECHNIQUE. SMOKE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS WRAP IN FOIL AND FINISH IN OVEN. THAT STEAMS ALL THE FLAVOR OUT. THE RIBS WERE JUST MARGINAL. THEY USED TO BE GREAT. SKIP THIS PLACE FOR AWHILE. MAYBE THEY WILL REMEMBER GOOD FOOD BROUGHT THEM HERE NOT THE THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLAR A YEAR MILLIONAIRES ON THE PATIO. Pros: THE SAUSAGE .THEY DON'T EVEN MAKE IT . Cons: BLAND BRISKET AND OVERCOOKED PULLED PORK more

Amended Review...Beaver's reedems 7/14/2009

Went back to Beavers to give the resturant a second try and it was much better! They have some pretty amazing cocktails (try the Opal Smash) and the BBQ was quite good. I think the trick is knowing what to oder. We will return! Pros: Fried Pickles & Beverages more

Worth a try for BBQ inside the Loop 7/13/2009

I visited last week and really enjoyed the evening. The chef/owner was our waiter and he was very enjoyable to chat with. My husband had the BBQ Sampler and was overwhelmed by the brisket. He only eats brisket at the County Line, so this was a huge surprise. The potato salad was below average. I had the pitboss chickwich which was a good dish overall. The onion strings were flavorless, but the coleslaw was surprisingly good. The BBQ sauce was very tasty, although I did find a couple of bones in my shredded chicken. The fried egg on top was a genius idea and really made the dish pop. We'll be back for the brisket and to try the queso, which I hear is quite good. Be prepared for a hefty bill, but that is part of the inner loop life! ***UPDATE***I've been back a few times and the menu is just to eclectic. I understand creativity, but the combinations just do not please my palate. For the price, I can find better in this neighborhood. Pros: Brisket satisified my extremely picky husband, large portion Cons: Pricy for a weeknight meal; no draught beers more

Monica Pope only owns it, she's not the chef. 6/29/2009

I've been here 4 times I think. I keep hoping I will find the right item on the menu but I think it's hopeless. It's all bad. Maybe just the plain ole burger is ok. I haven't tried it yet but what could they possibly do to mess up a burger? Fried chicken is bad. BBQ is awful. Mac is dry. Shredded chicken is a mess. Risotta is overwhelmingly smokey... I've had other items, or my dinner companions have... none of it's been good. Go to enjoy the cool patio and drinks. (be prepared to search for a parking spot though) Pros: picnic tables, interesting drink selection Cons: really unappealing food more

bad experience 6/14/2009

My wife and I used to enjoy the food, but the quality has declined markedly until reaching its lowest point today--our final visit. The food took an eternity to arrive, but we are parting ways with the food in rapid and unpleasant fashion. Other issues aside, the food wasn't very good and was awfully expensive. $15 for a chicken sandwich without any sides is silly. Parking is often difficult as well. No more. Pros: ? Cons: food was terrible more

I love this place! 3/6/2009

I love this place. I came back becuase I loved the appetizers and drinks. I love the macaroni and cheese and loved the stuffed peppers so much I tried to duplicate them at home to no avail. I don't particulary like BBQ but I really like this place. The drink with the Habenero vodka is amazing and goes down too quick and smooth. Pros: Best stufffed Pepperocini's and Habenero Infused Vodka Cons: Stone driveway , prices are high for the drinks more

It's just not good. 2/5/2009

I really wanted to like this place. It looks cool, has inventive drinks, and its miliseconds away from my apartment. But I've been twice now and the truth is that it's just a cool concept with lackluster food. The first time I went we had drinks and appetizers. Every one of the apps was dripping in grease--just unneccesary amounts of it. And because it was a Wednesday night and they weren't busy, they decided to close the restaurant early, even though we were still enjoying ourselves. I went a second time and was super excited to try the Nut Burger. It was terrible and completely indistinguishable from the bun it was served on. Also the waitress wasn't very good at all--she didn't bring us water until after our food had arrived, though we asked 3+ times. She just kept making excuses. One person at the table asked if the fried egg that came on their sandwhich could be fried without bacon fat. ""No"", she said. Not even a thought, just ""no"". If I ever go back here it will be for drinks only. Pros: The habanero-infused vodka Cons: The food and service more

Unprofessional 9/23/2008

The BBQ isn't that great, the burgers are fine, and the drinks are tiny. BUT what really aggravated me is how unprofessional they were right before Ike arrived in Houston. \r They had sent out a message to those on their mailing list saying they'd be open on Thursday. Now granted, hurricanes are unpredictable so plans could change at any minute. Given that, I called at 11AM to verify that they would be open and the woman who answered said they would close at about 1:45. My family and I arrived there at about noon and there were two cars in the parking lot. One of the business partners and two other people were walking out the front door and walked by the two cars of people sitting in the parking lot. The three casually walking away said something to them and kept walking. The ""business partner"" looked at us and kept walking (actually, it was more like a stroll in the park on a Sunday). My dad got out of the car to read the sign on the door which stated when they would reopen after the storm. \r Again, I understand that things can change at the last minute because of a storm blowing through, but she could have been professional and respectful enough to approach us and say plans changed instead of just walking off casually. Luckily, the Chili's nearby had a booming business and served great margaritas (which includes being appropriately sized and priced). Cons: Lack of professionalism more

Trendy not tasty. 7/15/2008

I have been to B--ver's once before and returned because a friend said to give it another chance. Unfortunately I did! The BBQ was tough for a BBQ restaurant. The drinks were expensive for the small glass that they were served in. I stayed away from the sweet potato fries after the poor experience last time. We ordered some wings as an appetizer which came out as if they had been cooked 15 mins ago and were lukewarm. At this point I was really anxious for my burger. Again, I was disappointed with my selection. It was very bland. A real ice house has a tastier burger. Cons: Walking to car during evening. Food more

What a disappoinment! 7/13/2008

Beer menu looked excellent, but we were there to eat. I won't eat there again. Service was bad, food priced ok, taste and quality not at what should of been excpected. The waitress with an attitude, got my order wrong. The Pig Stand across the streeet was better when it was still around. I had a Egg and BLT sandwhich, that came with two slices of the roma tomatoes and a sliver of lettuce. The sweet potato fries were soggy and greasy-gross. Even the mac and cheese was lees then to be desired. Go for a beer sit on the patio, enjoy a snack, I heard the wings are good, but pass on a real meal at this place. Pros: looks great, fun place to have a good beer Cons: food is not good at all, service is bad more
