Mr. Bearden -younger 9/9/2013

Today I had a very poor experience with young Mr. Bearden. When I arrived to the violin shop; the second time I had been there, I walked in the door with the senior Mr. Bearden. Senior Bearden is a kind gentlement who told me he is 83 years old. He showed me a picture on the wall from when he was in an orchestra performance. I chatted with senior Bearden for about 20 minutes. Then senior Bearden checked to see if his son was available to help me exchange my violin. The younger Mr. Bearden appeared, in a hurried and frantic way. He was short, just as he had been in my previous visit and in previous phone conversations. His father was preparing to play a song for me. Younger Mr. Bearden then demanded that his father hand him the violin b/c he needed the serial number. I asked if he would still be able to play for me. Young Mr. Bearden indicated that 'he didnt' have time for this type of stuff. Young Bearden then put the violin in the case - not giving his father a chance to play for me. Then he told his father in a condescending tone, 'you'd play better with a bow." He asked his father for the bow that went to the violin then reprimanded him in front of me for handing him the wrong bow. I was upset at this point and indicated that he should be happy to still have his father - and explained that I had recently lost my father. Young Bearden began ranting about how he had saved his father's business and how he takes care of him. I began to cry and then he made fun of me and blamed the situation on his father. Finally I told young Bearden that I no longer wanted to rent the violin because I thought he was an 'ass.' He did not like this one bit and began to rant further. He finally refunded me all of my money and yelled at me for calling him an 'ass' He then told me that I was projecting my problems (psychology babble) and needed help. To which I replied that his assessment was accurate only it was the reverse that he needs help and everything he told me was really about himself. I will never go back. more

Interaction with younger Bearden 9/9/2013

The younger Mr. Bearden has an extremely poor attitude toward his customers. In the two interactions I have had with him plus several phone conversations, he is always preoccupied and short. Today I witnessed an interaction between the younger Mr. Bearden and his 83 year old father. Younger Mr. Bearden chastized his father in front of me for not giving him the correct bow. Then, when I inquired about his appreciation for his father, stating that I had recently lost my father, he began to explain to me how he takes care of his father and has saved the business. He went on to raise his voice and use a mean tone with me. I began to cry and he made fun of me. He then told me that I needed help and that I was projecting my feelings along with other psychology babble. During his rant he made a comment to the effect . . 'this is what I get for working nights and days." I then told him that I had changed my mind about renting from him and tore up the rental agreement paper that I had written on. Again, he scolded me for ripping his paper. The senior Mr. Bearden was very calm and kind to me but the son is truly a Donkey! more

Great place for young violinists 10/18/2005

Bearden Violin shop in St. louis is a great find for those who play the violin. Mr. Bearden is an accomplished Violinist who provides lessons and you can see many of his accalades posted on the walls. They are neat to see and fun to read. They also sell and rent violins. We rented one for our daughter and then upgraded to a full size when she needed it. The transition went great and we have the option to buy the instrument with some of the money we paid to rent it going towardd the total. It’s a great way to find the right violin. more
