How could they go so wrong? 9/18/2008

How could they go so wrong with me when all these other review are so positive? We called the restaurant 3 days in advance to ask about vegetarian options, at a prixe fixed dinner. What came as my entree was a small roasted purple onion on arugula garnish, while everyone else had duck. Did they not have any other vegetables in the kitchen? An onion!! Went home with a bad headache from lack of food, but its good story telling. more

OUTSTANDING 5/9/2008

my husband and I have been there for brunch and it was great, so we thought we'd try it for dinner. We took some old friends visiting Boston and had a very memorable meal. The service was amazing and the food was incredible. I highly recommend this pleasant little gem of a resturant to anyone who lives here now or anyone visiting us. Good job! more

beacon hill beauty 3/24/2004

Stayed at BHHB over Valentine's Day weekend and had a wonderful weekend. Great location, well appointed rooms, and a very friendly and helpful staff. The included breakfast was a feast. Pros: location more

Excellent food 2/13/2004

We went for Valentine's Day. The wait staff was very professional and attentive. A little rushed, but it was Valentine's Day, so it was perhaps to be expected. The food was excellent - roasted pear salad, escarole, and especially the chocolate tasting menu for dessert were all wonderful. The foie gras, perhaps a little less so. Atmosphere is not too upscale (but still classy). And the value was excellent. Pros: value, desserts, fish more

A Classic and A Great Value! 3/20/2003

I have dined at BHB several times and have found the food to be excellent each time. A classic French bistro, one needs to adjust their expectations before dining but not lower them. Portions are smaller than most are used to but this is bistro fare - the food is elegantly prepared, flavorful and just enough to satisfy without stuffing. The space is small and a bit noisy during the dinner rush but that is what contributes to the restaurants bustling energy and charm. The wine list is diverse, well matched to the food and provides more by-the-glass options than most places. Service is attentive and respectful. The prices are incredibly reasonable given the quality of the overall experience and the neighborhood. BHB make for a great start to an evening on the town or a relaxing brunch on a lazy Sunday. Try it once and youll become a regular! Pros: Inventive Menue, Pleasant Atmosphere, Great Value Cons: A Bit Noisy At Times more

new favourite restaurant 2/12/2003

We had a great experience -- first time there. Beautiful room. Not pretentious. Felt like a real French bistro. Nice noise and energy. Interesting and REASONABLE wine list. My wife loved the bouillabaise. Steak Frites was the best I've had in Boston. Dessert cart was excellent, even if it is noisy as it moves down the room. Try the chocolate mousse cake. Server was very friendly. Manager has a good sense of humour. We'll be back with friends. Pros: great food, good value, friendly -no attitude Cons: no bar more

great at brunch 10/31/2002

This is a great spot for brunch, reminds me a lot of a brunch joint you might find in London. I haven't been for dinner, but would definelty reccommend bruch. more

Good casual dining 10/31/2002

I don't understand the ""2"" or ""3"" ratings in this list, although I suppose everywhere can have an occasional ""off night"" or offer food that isn't to everyone's taste. We have eaten at BHHB some 10-15 times since it opened, and have been invariably well pleased with the food and service. It represents great value for money in a prime location, with good creativity and quality in soups, fish dishes, meat dishes, and desserts. It is one of our current favorites for a casual meal in Boston. Pros: Good quality/price Cons: Difficult parking more

Dining Pleasure 10/25/2002

Of all the restaurants that I have frequented in the Boston area BHHB is my favorite. The food has been absolutely delicious, the service superb and the atmosphere incredibly relaxing. Dining there has been one of my true pleasures since moving to boston. Pros: menu not complicated, appealing desserts, seasonal food items more

Hidden Treasure 10/24/2002

This hotel is a great find with a fantastic bistro. Food was excellent and service impeccible. more

A True Gem 8/14/2002

I've been to the Beacon Hill Bistro several times for dinner, lunch and most recently breakfast. The food has not disappointed me yet. If anything, they just keep me coming back for more. The Beet Salad, The Steak Frites and The Chicken Confit are my favorites. The most difficult part about dining there is deciding which dish to pick(this goes for dessert as well.) As for the service, everyone's very attentive and polite. The ambiance is elegant yet relaxed. I can't wait to go back. more

Great Food and Dynomite Location 8/11/2002

Wonderful and not intimidating wine list. Excellent food, try the beet salad then the steak and save room for desert. Oh yea. The Hotel is wonderful and if you are a guest ask to have dinner served on the roof patio (not open to public only guest) and watch the world go by on one of the most beautiful streets in the US. more

Simple Greatness 7/29/2002

My husband and I each had the mouth watering tomato, watermelon and cold sorbet salad. It was simply amazing. The candle light and music in the background made our evening seem like we had escaped to Europe. Pros: good parking, Best Hill Value more

A real bistro in a sea of fakes 6/17/2002

When visitors refer to Boston as the most European of American cities, this is the kind of thing they mean: a bistro that serves beautiful (but not fussy) food in an elegant (but not formal) setting at reasonable prices. It's located in a small boutique hotel (pretty rooms!), so it serves three meals a day, every day of the week. Interesting, short wine list, good service, and supremely hospitable owners. Gorgeous soups, great grilled and roasted meats (the first proper steak frites I've been served in a town full of pretenders), and elegant updates on classic fish dishes. I haven't yet had a weekday breakfast here, but can vouch for fabulous lunch and weekend brunch menus, too. I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. Pros: Very friendly service, Brunch, lunch, dinner, Authentic bistro fare Cons: No bar, Crowded waiting area more
