Milwaukee's best French dining 1/9/2009

I love this place. At times it can be a little intimidating and pretentious, but service and food are exceptional. Menu changes often and is always fresh and appropriate for the season. Great wine list. Pros: Best French food in Milwaukee Cons: It is fine dining so be prepared for all the pomp and circumstance more

Disappointing yet again.... 4/8/2008

Lake Park Bistro has great views and has done a relatively good job updating the structure that contains the restaurant. However, their translation of French cuisine is further evidence of Bartolotta's assembly line approach to their restaurants, using similar recipes and sources despite advertising specialization in culinary regions. LPB is Bartolotta's French adaptation of their menu, which is akin to saying Lincoln is Ford's adaptation to luxury driving. Our dinners included French Onion soup and seared scallops as appetizers. The former was above average, allowing the cheese to dominate the flavor, the latter was no better or worse in taste than we've had at 3 star restaurants. Main courses were steak and halibut, both of which were forgettable. The service is ""French"" in the fact that there is an aire to the wait staff, which is suprising in a city like Milwaukee. As opposed to true European cuisine, Bartolotta's takes the American approach; simply dressing up mediocre offerings by overpricing and cruise-line grade presentation. Do yourself a favor on this one and skip it; attend one of Milwaukee's other real fine restaurants (none of them Bartolotta's) and take a trip down to Alterra on Lincoln Memorial Drive to have a coffee on the lake. You'll have a much better culinary experience, a much better taste of Milwaukee and a few more dollars in your pocket book. Pros: View Cons: Poor service, high prices, mediocre food. more

outstanding... exceeds expectations 7/11/2007

the food here is positively brilliant and exceeded our expectations - which is rare! we had great service as well. the escargot was absolutely perfect, and the only complaint about the charcuterie plate was how fast 4 of us went through it. the beet salad was refreshing and delicious. the steak frites was perfect - the meat was tender, seasoned and cooked well, with a perfect red wine buerre sauce. there were no complaints at our table (my husband was thrilled with the asparagus salad, and the other entrees - ribeye, halibut, and duck - were all devoured with praise). absolutely stunning! we will be back soon. Pros: great food, great service, great ambiance Cons: no valet and small parking lot more

Romantic 10/26/2006

Several fine dining establishments have opened in Milwaukee over the last several years. However, my favorite is still Lake Park Bistro. I take all my out-of-town guests for their Sunday brunch. On a perfect sunny day, the view is to die for. Their food and the service is outstanding. Pros: Brunch, View, Parking Cons: Absolutely none! more

Best Brunch 10/17/2006

I went to Lake Park Bistro for the first time on Sunday, October 15th. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The place was very comfortable and homey. The staff was quite friendly and accomodating. Prices are a little higher then I would normally pay but the service and quality well make up for that. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was the best I have ever had. The appetizer selection and desert options complimented my entree very well. With the location and wonderful view of Lake Michigan I would highly recommend this location. Pros: Beautiful views, incredible food options, wonderful staff Cons: May be hard to find if you are not familar with the area more

Fantastic 10/4/2006

Dined their last night. Just wonderful! Great service! Great food! Great wine! I had the duck, My wife had the Hanger Steak. I would recommend this resturant to all of my friends. We can't waite to go back. Pros: Food, service, price more

Disappointed 9/18/2006

I cannot pronounce the names of the entrées and I may not have been formally attired but I still expect an appropriate return for my restaurant dollar. My wife and I were joined by family from Albany, NY to Seattle, WA and points between for the Sunday brunch (9/17/06). We had told the others that this was among the best Milwaukee had to offer. I was embarrassed by a waiter that was negligent enough to serve cold coffee and insulted by a second waiter that served desert (ice cream stuffed pastry puffs) that had fallen over on the plate, ice cream melted and now resembled slop. Flavors were great and the presentation of both the fruit plate and the main course were very good, but this was not what I expected. Next time, we will visit Pandle's in Bayside for a more reasonable price and more attentive wait staff. more

Bartolotta's is perfection 2/14/2006

This is undoubtedly THE BEST restaurant in Milwaukee. The seafood is fresh and prepared to perfection. The wine list is astounding. We had the best time here and will definitely return. The setting is lovely. Make sure to request a window seat for a view of the lake. Pros: Lake view, fresh fish, Friendly staff, Beautiful ambience Cons: Are there any?? more

Mmmmm.....Delicious! 9/11/2005

After dining at one of the best French restaurants while visiting in Vancouver, we were looking for one here when we returned. Bartolotta's was excellent! The escargot was scrumptious...so was the duck with foie gras. I was, though, disappointed with the bread. Being a French restaurant, I was expecting it to be better than it was (cold and hard). With the lake view, it was certainly very romantic and picturesque. I would definitely return to try the other entrees. Pros: Food, Ambience, Parking Cons: Cold Bread more

Best food in Milwaukee 3/14/2005

I've been comming here since 1997 and I've only had one good meal. The rest have been excelent. The food is always perfect. The Foie Gras is never burned like most places in Milwaukee. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you don't want to get all dressed up, eat at the bar. Same food but you can wear a nice and jeans and avoid the stuffiness on the dinig room. Pros: Food quality, Soup, Special Dishes more

Chef 8/5/2003

Brilliant!! Exec. Chef Adam Siegel has this place running like clockwork! The food is at least comparable and at most times superior to the cuisine found in bistros in Western Europe!! Pros: Wine, Menu, Service Cons: No outdoor dining more

Unloving Valentine's 2/7/2003

We highly anticipated going to Bartolotta for Valentine's dinner. The bar and bartenders were great . We can't beging to tell you how disappointed we were in the restaurant service. We felt that we were truly in Paris with the famous poor service of the wait staff. It was very rude. It's too bad that they're the only restaurant with a great view of the lake. Due to the poor service we had a rotten Valentine's day and ended up fighting on what should have been a romantic evening. Pros: View Cons: Bad attitude staff, crowded, expensive more
