I like this place a lot. I live in Chicago but work in new York quite a bit and have quickly grown tired of the way too trendy pretty boy bars in Chelsea where the drinks are weak...

THE REAL REVIEW... I HOPE THE OWNER AND PEDROS B.F READS THI 12/16/2009

BARRAGE CAN SOMETIMES BE A FUN PLACE TO GO WHEN YOU HAVE NO PLANS ON MEETING ANYONE WITH ANY SUBSTANCE TO THEM... I WISH NYC HAD SOME PLACE FOR GAY MEN TO MEET OTHER GAY MEN WHERE ITS JUST NOT ALL ABOUT HOOKING UP.. DOESNT ANYONE WANT TO FIND A LASTING RELATIONSHIP ANYMORE? I HAVE SEEN PEDRO THE BARTENDER STEAL MONEY SO MANY TIMES IN THERE BY NOT RINGING UP DRINKS AND STEAING DRINKS TOO.. PLACE WOULD BE ALOT BETTER WITHOUT HIM.. HE STEALS AND ALL YOU HEAR ABOUT IS HIM.. ARENT BARTENDERS SUPPOSE TO ASK YOU ABOUT YOURSELF.. NOPE NOT HIM.. HUGE EGO.. SOME OF THE OTHER BARTENDERS ARE OK.. PEDRO IVE SEEN LATE NIGHT AT OTHER PLACES.. SAD THING IS,, HIS BOYFRIEND IS A NICE PROFESSIONAL GUY AND HAS NO CLUE PEDRO IS MAKING A FOOL OF HIM.. HE IS A BIG SLUT..ITS TOO BAD.. Pros: PRICES LOCATION CROWD MIUSIC Cons: BARTENDER NOT HONEST.. SMELLS BAD.. CLEANINESS more

Best place bar to get a haeadache 5/31/2008

What's up with the ""BAD...SICKENING...HEADACHE CAUSING SMELL ???"" Pros: It's a bar Cons: It's a bar with sickening odors more

Great place for Happy Hour 5/14/2008

Ive been going to this place for the past year pretty frequently for happy hours after work. Not only are the drinks strong & cheap ($4 @ happy hour, $7 when not, about) but the staff is super friendly & helpful. After only a few times there, the bartender remembered me & my friend's drinks exactly, and every other friend's drink that we've brought there! Pros: strong drinks, chic atmosphere Cons: can get crowded, sometimes the music is really loud more

BarRAGE for sure 2/17/2008

Barrage left me in a ""rage"" alright. Pros: It's near a lot of other, better options. Cons: Weak drinks and lame atmosphere. more

OMG 9/8/2007

omg. wuuuurrrrrsssttttt. this place at first glance seems ""trendy"" and all the ladies in there thought they were soooo posh. so posh but listen b*tches, posh is the next block up y'all. for one, there was mold on the wall. the walls have a terrible paint job. and if youre not drunk enough you smell a terrible alcohol stank. i was tehre with my man and my best freind shavonn and we all hateddd it yall. the music was whack. all these dudes kept tryin to pick me up. like, b*tch, i dont want u , u wearin makeup!!! they had on foundation and mascara!! oh my god! keep on up outta here!!! terrible. for real. 1 Pros: bar size and good for trannies. Cons: men who wear mascara, mold, insects ""the red ones"", animals, stank. more

Great HK hangoout 9/28/2004

Simple, Fresh and Friendly. I loved the original look of the place and now - returning to NYC after a 3 year absence - have every reason to keep coming back. HK is changing and Barrage is keeping up with the times. Stylish without being a slave to trends, and Cool without loosing it's friendlyness it's still my favorite place to hang for a nightcap or meet a date at. more

sliding rapidly downhill 6/24/2004

i've been living in the hell's kitchen area since barrage was ""the new bar"" with no sign. recently they decided to revamp the place to draw in a new younger crowd. apparently the way to do this was to remove the entire staff, who incidentally were the best reason to go there, and replace them with newer cuter versions. the new face was recently revealed with uncute unfriendly bartenders and an eclectic tacky decor that couldn't even pass as ironic. boo. you killed a good thing. Pros: pot-bellied men more

Go later... 5/26/2004

I really like Barrage and I've been there quite a few times. The ""happy hour"" starts a little bit later even though the specials are from 4-8:00 pm. I have been there right after work and basically there is no one there. Around 7:30 or so, it seems to really liven up. The people are nice and the bartenders are GREAT! So, basically, don't go too early and it's a fun place. more

Cheap, strong drinks and relaxed place 6/25/2003

I like this place a lot. I live in Chicago but work in new York quite a bit and have quickly grown tired of the way too trendy pretty boy bars in Chelsea where the drinks are weak and expensive. Barrage seems more down-to-earth, still has a few cute boys, and serves very strong, relatively inexpensive mixed drinks. Bartenders are nice and not flirty. (good and bad) Crowd is much more relaxed than Chelsea and you can still meet people if you work a little harder. Pros: cheap, strong drinks, relaxed, not chelsea Cons: average crowd, a bit lonely more

Pleasant bar, great photos 5/27/2003

A pleasant place to hang out for a couple of hours with friends. The simple but comfortable seating encourages groups to sit and chat, so while great with friends, could be somewhat lonesome if you go on your own. The pictures on the walls are all taken from designer marketing campaigns (Calvin Klein, Versace etc) and though mostly well known are all bursting with pent up sexuality. And the walls are covered with them. Wonderful eye candy! Drinks are moderate to expensive ($14 for 2xwine) and when we were there, the a/c was acting up so it got a little warmer than it should. Nonetheless, a pleasant, watering hole away from the village meat-rack bars. Pros: Pictures on walls, Not too cruisy, Relaxed Cons: A tlittle expensive more

Somewhat Surprised 11/25/2002

I went to Barrage before and decided to revisit it. This time I had a really great time. I had a nice chat with one of the waiters for a long time and bonded with the coat check girl. The drinks are good, the music is good and the atmosphere is a bit cruisy but can be handled. Pros: Service, Drinks, Music Cons: Crowd, Location more

barrage is a great neighborhood hangout. 10/6/2002

I love this bar. It doesn't matter when I show up, I have a great time, the bartenders are always cool and attentive (maybe that's because I go out of my way to tip them well? I dunno, just a suggestion for the people who say they wait too long for service -- good service doesn't come cheap), and the space is full of energy, conversation and a friendly clientel. Nice neighborhood place to hang out, drink and talk. No blaring disco music (but a good sound-system nonetheless), and plenty of room to stand or sit. I highly recommend it (for people who don't mind tipping their bartenders). more
