Barberama

A couple months ago I got a bad haircut. Very bad. I've been doing my best to wear it up in a ponytail all the time and not be too depressed about it, even though I was. I was hoping to let it grow out since the cut was much shorter than it should have been, and it looked awful. Yesterday I'd had enough and decided that even if it took drastic measures such as dying all my hair blue I would change my hair and not feel so bad about it. Luckily, drastic measures were not needed. I randomly called Barberama because I remember going there to get some braiding done a few years ago. Lucky for me Charles answered the phone and after chatting about the hair issue he said it would be best to come in sometime so he could figure out what would be best to do. I hopped in my car, headed over to the shop, and let Charles work his magic. He put some beautiful colors in and did it in just the right way, not too flashy, but definitely there to be seen, and even managed to give me an amazing cut that saved my hair! I thought I was beyond hope until it grew out more, but no, he proved me wrong. I will definitely be a loyal customer from now on. Charles gave me an amazing deal on the price and did absolutely amazing work! Every time I pass by a mirror I want to stop and look at my new hair. Another great plus is that there is a coffee shop attached to the salon, so while you're waiting for color to set or even waiting for an appointment you can grab a latte and use the free wifi. I can't say enough good things about this place and especially Charles. I've been seeing the same hair stylist for years but that last cut was it. It's always scary heading into the great unknown of stylists, but I got lucky and found the best! Thanks again Charles! Pros: Great price, no wait, coffee shop connected to it Cons: nada more

For the last 15 months, I've been receiving brow & bikini waxes from Rachel Wing. She has recently started at Barberama and does an AMAZING job with eyebrows. She has an incredible attention to detail, takes her time and I leave feeling beautiful. She also does a great job with bikini waxes and her facials are the most relaxing that I have ever experienced. PLUS: her prices are reasonable. Angela does my hair, and she is amazing. She does exactly what I want, and I don't even really have to expalin it to her. I have seen her do all types of cuts and styles, and she is great. Rachel has done a fabulous job on waxing. I have even brought my boyfriend in who does not like to get waxed and he loved it! She is very professional and experienced. I have gone to see her on multiple occasions to get my eyebrows done and everytime I get compliments on how good they look. Rachel gave me the best facial of my life, and I've had lots of facials! My skin absolutely glowed afterwards and lots of people commented on how clear my skin looked. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave me great recommendations. Rachel has also been waxing my brows for awhile, and the difference is fantastic! She knows how to shape and open my brows so it looks like and instant facelift! I would recommend Rachel to anyone who wants to look and feel gorgeous! Pros: my face was glowing! more

I get the best hair cuts I have ever had from Charles. He does anything I want, and does it right. I can get an appointment usually day-of. Good prices and good specials too, and they reward you for referrals. Atmosphere is chill, staff is funny and great company. You can get a hair cut, wax, and facial all in one visit! I have had many facials around the country and I think that the best one I have ever had was at Barberama on MLK. Whitney Brinless has the most amazing fingers (aka magic fingers) and her massage technique is extremely relaxing. My skin looked amazing afterwards. I did not even put on makeup the rest of the day because my skin was glowing. I think this is the first time in 20 years where I have gone out in public without makeup. I would highly recommend Whitney for a one of a kind facial experience. Who knew that a small salon in Portland could compete with the spas in Maui, Florida, and Napa Valley. more

I had never had a facial before, but had one a few months back from Whitney also--it was indeed awesome...and I, too, finally 'got it.' The soft skin afterwards was delightful, but the real key, for me, was her impressive massage technique! more

I've treated myself to facials sporadically through the years, but have never really been impressed. Honestly, I didn't understand what all the fuss was about... until I started going to Whitney. I've never loved my skin more. I finally understand why so many people consider a facial so relaxing, and so beneficial. My skin is smooth and glowy, and I love it. I've been back to see Whitney several times over the past few months, and every time I go I'm ecstatic with my results. Plus, she's wonderful with eyebrows. I've had my brows done professionally before, but more often than not I do them myself. Whitney reshaped my brows in a way that's much better suited for my face shape, and I'm so much happier than I've ever been after anyone else has touched them. Thank you to Toni at Barberama for such a cool hair style!! I had an important music gig last night and she made sure to make me look like a Rock Star! I was a lil' confused though when I showed up at the Broadway address mentioned here on City Search to see an empty building. Walking away with confusion and a frown, I called Barberama. They quickly informed me that they had moved back in January and it hadn't been updated on here yet. What gives there city search?? Anywho, I got there just in time and Toni made my hair look like something out of a modeling book. Needless to say, the gig went well. Oh, and they have a freakin' Nintendo Wii now and a coffeeshop attached called Javarama!! Did I mention the word awesome?? Pros: Nintendo Wii, coffee, beer, and great hair!! Cons: City Search need to update the address so people don't waste gas and time more

I saw Megan this afternoon and left LOVING my hair. She took the time to listen and get to know my hair and likes/dislikes. After the last horrific cut I received at another salon 4 weeks ago, I was slightly anxious but listened to her ideas. I am SO happy I did! My mid-length cut was razored to give it layers and personality. Moreover, the salon is very hip but professional and while she made a product suggestion, she did not push anything on me. The other clients I observed all seemed pleased with the work from their stylists as well. I plan to visit the salon again! Pros: Friendly, funky, reasonably priced Cons: non that I can think of more
