Best

I have been to nearly every hair salon in DC in search of someone who can cut and color my hair. Literally, everywhere -- from PR at Partners, to Bubbles (low point), to DC Style ...

Worst

Jay is horrendous and is too busy talking to pay any attention to what he is doing. Worst cut I've ever gotten, and everyone who knows me agrees!!

Horrible Service (Verizon Ctr Location) 12/30/2010

Horrible service and worst experience I've ever had in a hair salon. Thanks to really bad traffic I was 10 minutes late (I know that part is my fault but everything that followed is on them) and they cancelled my appointment for a haircut, wash & blow dry and couldn't even fit me in for just the wash & blow dry even though I offered to pay extra for it (I pleaded because I had a date that night) and there was enough time in the appointment left for it. I was desperate for a haircut so I rescheduled for the next morning. The next morning they kept me waiting 15 minutes past my appointment time with no apology, then kept me sitting for another 5+ mins in the hair wash chair and then complained that my hair was too thick and that I should have scheduled a longer appointment than the 30 minutes they give for a haircut. After exactly 30 mins (including the 5+ mins they left me sitting in the hair wash chair) the stylist passed me off to an assistant to finish off and was very rude to me. I was a first time customer and never was told that a) it was only a 30 min appointment (who has appts that short?) or b) that I may want to schedule a longer appointment if I have hair longer than shoulder length (if they had told me in advance and given me all that info, I would have scheduled a longer appt in a heartbeat because the last thing I want is an annoyed stylist and their assistant working quickly on my hair). in the end I didn't even get the stylist to work on my hair for the full 30 minutes. Extremely disappointed by the rude treatment & I'm never going again and recommend to all my friends that they don't waste their time either. There are enough other good salons in DC that know how to treat their customer well and fairly. more

Wouldn't go elsewhere 10/30/2008

I've been going to the Bang at Verizon Center since it opened in August '06, and have always used Jennie, and love her. She always takes the time to discuss my wishes, changes I want, and double checks if I like it, if she thinks it looks right. I've screwed up appt times before, and she has been understanding, and I have not been charged. I've never used anyone else, because I have always had a wonderful cut that everyone loves, is easy to style, trendy, but I can maintain easily. more

Terrible service 12/12/2007

THIS WAS MY THIRD AND LAST TIME GOING TO BANG! The first haircut I had there was ok, but the guy looked like he just rolled out of bed. The last two times I was with ELENA and she was terrible. She had one of those better-than-thou attitudes, and that's not something I want from a hairstylist. Also, the last time she just seemed like she didn't want to be there, and would talk poorly about other coworkers. I was disgusted! I'd prefer going to Hair Cuttery or something because at least they're nice to you there. more

They don't accept gratuity by credit card 8/6/2007

I know why they like tip in cash, but it's very inconvenient for customers to have to carry cash in order to tip. I don't usually carry cash and use only my debit/credit card. The haircut quality is ok. But I think I'll go elsewhere from now on. more

I came out looking worse, than my worse bad hair day. 7/23/2007

I tried Bang at U St. because of their prices and convenient location. You can tell they are inexperienced a mile away The cut is just wrong. A high layer and a low layer, no layers in between, sort of the Rosie O’ Donnell look. On top of that they cant blow dry, and when I complained about it, he told me a million excuses, that I had curly hair, that he was going for a high volume look, that it would go down by itself in half hour.... I got home as soon as possible with my hair half wet. This is the first time I get out of a salon and people cant help to stare (IN A BAD WAY!!!) The most ridiculous thing... he was giving tips to his assistant on how to blow dry. more

Its how you hit it 7/21/2007

I went to bang a few times on the suggestion of my friend who swears by it. I hate trying to find a new hair person, so i decided to try it. Granted, I also went because it is slightly less expensive than the dc norm - but, as i found out - their stylists are less experienced. When I go, I've got not-so-good haircuts and not-quite-right color. I've seen other people walk out looking amazing - yet, the 3 times i tried it has been pretty blah. I think the big problem is that there is no attention to detail. you have 15-20 min in the chair and then you leave. There was never any detailing or checking to make sure its right or cutting your hair after its dry. I also felt like the consults usually ended in me saying "umm, no purple spikes, pixie cuts, or mushroom shapes." Its also kind of weird to me that a dog hangs out in the verizon center one. cute dog, but its not professional and i've heard reports of patrons stepping in pee or worse... I've decided that I have to get over my cheapness and invest in a better place. If you have suggestions, let me know! more

Customer Service Hell 6/16/2007

I went to Bangs because I was in desperate need of a highlight. I got Ryan. NEVER GO TO RYAN. He is condescending and pompous and speaking to you like you have no idea what you are talking about. I have had my hair highlighted for 20 years and I am pretty sure I am not a moron. But Ryan asked sarcastic questions and rather than trying to listen was too busy criticizing what I was trying to describe in terms of the highlights and low lights. I guess no one taught him good customer relations. They lost over $200 in business when he was rude to me. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. and DO NOT GO TO RYAN. I walked out - I would rather had roots then give them my money for such treatment. more

Truly Horrific Experience.... Utterly Incompetent Staff 5/9/2007

The establishment: 30 minutes after checking in I went back to the desk to ask the receptionist what was going on.... "Oh, you are here?" was the response from the same woman I checked in with. I later found out they had charged my credit card for my "lateness" anyway. The service: I never saw my "stylist." The assistant applied a "glaze" which later had to be washed out because it was applied without processor. Genius. Again, under the dryer, the assistant failed to utilize a hair-clip to contain my long locks, which proceeded to drip chemical product all over my silk shirt. Later, I had to physically grab someone walking by in order to get rinsed out, already 10 minutes after my timer went off. The incompetence did not stop here....the rinsing out phase was possibly the worst part. I had to go to a play after with sticky product lodged in my ears, all over my neck, and with 1/2 my head stiffed with product that should have been washed out. Save yourself the time and the agony; go ANYWHERE else. more

They're criminals and scam-artists 3/13/2007

More than a year ago I scheduled a hair cut at Bang Salon on U St. Had to give them my credit card # to reserve. That day, the metro had some drama so I was running late. I called them 5 minutes before the appt to let them know I would be a few minutes late and would that be OK. Twit on the phone tells me "no! you've lost your appt, and we'll be charging you!" and...hangs up on me. Uh, OK. They charged me and I just vowed never to go there. I'd booked online originally so they have all my details--address, phone number, credit card number. A week ago, I get a random email from their new Verizon Center Bang Salon: "Confirming appt with Nicky". I replied "I didn't make an appt." and it bounced. So I thought, spam, they're just trying to promote the biz or something. Tonight I get a call at 7:35 that goes to voice mail. "Bang Salon. You missed your appt and we're charging you!" I call right back. Twit answers giggling her ass off..."HeehehaHH Bang!". "Can I please speak to your manager?" Wanker gets on and as soon as I said (calmly), "I got a call about a missed appt that I never made..." He cuts me off and says "Girlfriend! I won't talk to you!" and....hangs up. I think I'm not the only one they're scamming. So I call USAA credit card services to report fraud. The guy tells me they charged my card at 6:30 pm. Dispute/fraud dept was closed. I'm going to file criminal charges if I can. I'm going to report them to Better Business. What else can I do? I'm so pissed off... more

Don't get a hair cut in that salon by trusting what their web site is saying about their hairdressers! 7/22/2006

I read reviews here and booked a hair cut appointment there with a hairdresser that according to their website was very creative because she was a lefty. It seems in Bang Salon ‘Creative’ means that the hairdresser has no idea what she is doing. According to their website she does magic with curly hair; translation, she does no know what she is doing and the mess she makes is not going to show in curly hair. I have curly hair and I have always been very careful in selecting a hairdresser to get a good cut. I was simple minded to believe what I read on that website and make an appointment with the creative hairdresser. I explained to the hairdresser that I do not want to shorten my hair and she should just shape my hair the same way it was by slightly trimming my hair. When she started using hair, I realized hat a mistake I have done. This girl had no idea ho to cut air. She was just pulling hair from each side of my hair and cutting that on the air like she was cutting grass. She thinned my hair which I never wanted that. At the end, she did not blow-dry my hair in spite of my request. After I cam back home and blow dried my hair, I realized that she had cut back of my hair in short uneven layers and have left the front untouched. I had a big strand of hair very short right in back of my head, while the rest was much longer and front of my hair had a funny curl because she did not trimmed it. I contacted the salon to tell them that they should train this girl before she destroys someone else's hair. Daniel, the salon manger said that … was an excellent hairdresser and she knows ho to cut curly hair because she has curly hair herself, like she could cut her own hair...What a ridiculous defense for an unqualified hairdresser from an unqualified manager... I should say I have heard good reviews about some of the hairdresser in bang salon but those good ones are booked a month in advance! Don't get a hair cut in that salon by trusting what their web site is saying about their hairdressers. Their web site is misleading and their manager is dishonest by allowing such unqualified hairdressers to destroy customer's hair. more

Really Solid Cuts at a fair price 6/13/2006

I have never been blown away when I have been to Bang. I have used a different person everytime - I am using Marks suggestion from above and trying Elana this time. However - although I have never been blown away - I have never been disappointed either. The cuts are solid - and I always leave looking good. Which I guess is really all you can ask for. The price is much less than you would expect from a trendy salon like this. Also - its in a really hip neighborhood of DC! I would definitely recommend BANG to friends who prefer a salon over a barber shop...... more

Hip Salon for the Right Price 11/5/2005

Bang is great! I found out about it after reading about a stylist in a recent issue of Allure Magazine, which named Angela one of the best stylists in the area. She really is! The place is uber-chic with thumping music and hipsters cutting and styling customers hair. But unlike some of the similar caliber places, Bang isn't ridiculously expensive. It just costs $35 for a cut and blow dry for a woman's cut, which is between $15 to $25 less than you'll find at other places. I am definitely going back. more

Spelled backwards it's Gnab. Kind of makes you think. 8/16/2005

Bang salon is very good, especially now that they've added another person at the front desk. All of the stylists are talented, though I'm partial to Elena, and they are a relative bargain at $25 a cut for men. They're located downstairs from Results Gym, so you can feel guilty about not being in shape while you're getting shampooed. My lady friends tell me their cuts for women are more expensive, and that they do a great job with highlights and more fancy 'dos. They're also a "spa." more
