Loved the Bartender 2/17/2008

We visited San Francisco on our honeymoon and were dissapointed by so many things, but the Bamboo Hut was a highlight for my husband and I. The bartender was AWESOME, she deserves a raise! more

awesome neighborhood bar... 7/18/2007

i just moved to San Francisco (north beach), and with so many bars and clubs to entertain me, i'm glad to have the hut in my neighborhood...everyone there is so friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. nick and lauren are very friendly, as are all the reminds me of a tiki bar that i love from back home- plus it's crawling distance from my place! more

Great decor! Tiki Heaven! 6/17/2007

I love the atmosphere in this bar. It's been awhile since I have been back. But the decor still sticks in my head. Puffer fish lamps, scorpion drink platters great music on Thursday nights. When you head to the bar, ask for Lauren! more

All around amazing. 6/12/2007

You are going to have a good time when you go there. Nick, the owner, knows how to take care of his customers. He also sets the atmosphere by having fun with his job. The other main bartender is Lauren. She rocks. Without a doubt the hardest working, friendliest, bartender I have met. She is always smiling and having fun. I've been to afew of the other bars local to broadway, and the hut just has the atmosphere where you want to stay for more than afew drinks. Friday and saturday nights the dj gets going, and the hut gets jumping! I have a great time, everytime. more

The Bamboo Hut rocks because of the people, the alcohol service and great music. Foreigners and regulars love this place. The bartenders and bouncers are the sweetest people and they will take care of you if youj're a good person. I totally recommend this place. It's also near many other bars and clubs as well, so check it out. You will see me there. WENDY Pros: meet great people more

First I like to start by saying that the staff is the friendliest happy go luck staff of any bar in the city. Yes I know that's a bold statement but a deserving one to say the least The selection of drinks are fantastic. I would recommend that if your in the city or the east bay you put this on your list of places to stop bye. more

The Bamboo Hut should be your favorite place to have a good time, ever time. 6/11/2007

All you have to do is walk in the door and you will realize just what your other bar experiences have been failing to provide. Imagine this; you start off getting all the logistics out of the way first, ie. small security station where your id has to be shown (in order to prove your not some underage teen looking to drink for free for the night) and as you walk into the bar for the first time you start to hear the rumble of the DJ?s upbeat music directly followed by a small entrance path that leads you onto the dance floor, followed in close proximity (for all you non dancers) to the neatly tended straw/hay covered bar that?s overhang looks like it belongs directly on a commercial on beach front property. About that time, you will start to notice the details that one only sees from the inside view of the bar looking out towards the street at all the other potential customers. For example the same neatly tended straw/hay covering is also located on the lower half and strung though out the rest of the facility. You have a consistent amount of what seem to be palm trees on and around all sides of bar. They have surf bards hanging and other ornaments above the small, but usable seating section. The staff never stands still, from the time you enter until the time you leave or until last call, they are there taking orders and making sure you have exactly what you are in the mood for. For you drinkers who prefer more of a layed back approach, there is a small VIP room towards the back of the facility. It?s been known to fill out very quickly and should be reserved ahead of time. Last but not least you have the bar tenders them selves who are down to earth, like to have a good time, are very outgoing and have no problem striking up conversation and getting to know you. The Bamboo Hut should be your favorite place to have a good time, ever time. Although this is my first post on this particular web site I look forward to further adventures. Thank you Pros: Upbeat atmosphere Cons: Parking can be a little hard to find in the Immediate area. more

Fun place... 6/29/2006

The place is small, dim and it can get crowded but it is can be fun. They play some pretty good tunes (I think there are different themes on different nights). Drinks are rpetty good, and prices are pretty average. The location is really good too, if you don't like it here, or if you get tired and are ready for a change of scene there are plenty of other bars literally a few steps away. But be ware of Broadway street. Boy are there some characters walking it, and do NOT walk it alone at night if you are a girl. You won't get hurt (it's safe), but you might get man handled! more

Bamboo for you! 7/21/2005

I had to put an American zip code in to join this! I live in London, England. A couple of us came over in May '04, and this was a main part of our nights out! On average the nightlife in San Fran was quiet Monday - Wednesday, but when the weekend hit it was great! Bamboo hut had really friendly bar staff and cocktail selections...what more can u ask for? Well, they allowed us to put our CD on..which was nice! And the ladies are very friendly there...especially if your British! Pros: Friendly, Good Location more

All I can say is this is the best bar in SF!!!! 5/21/2005

IF you want to have a ton of fun on a Friday or Saturday night this is the place you have to go. The crowed is so cool and the bartenders are great too! What's the deal with ragging on the door-guy....he's totally awesome... I'd hardly say that they are rude to the patrons waiting to get in... in fact I have found the situation to be quite the opposite! All I can say is go to this place! Pros: Everything Cons: None! more

A Great Time! 8/18/2004

My friends and I had a girl's night out for a friends Bachelorette Party in May of 2003. We ended up at the Bamboo Hut and decided to try the Flaming Volcano drink. It was good and definetely got us buzzing. The decor is cool and the placed was packed. We met a lot of fun people and the bartenders were awesome. The DJ was great! If you want to have a good time check it out. If you don't like crowds and want to be able to have a nice conversation look elsewhere. Pros: Inexpensive, Good music, Great Bartenders more

Great Happy Hour 5/8/2003

Great happy hour, amazing bartenders, great music and all around a really fun place! Guaranteed good time! Pros: decor, drink specials, staff more

Overall: not fun 2/21/2003

I've been just about everywhere in N. Beach, and this place lacks what makes this neighborhood special. The bartenders and doormen are generally pretty awful . Funny that these guys decided to open the cheesiest bar in SF then look down on the people that actually choose to stay there. Granted their crowd is pretty disgusting, but still it seems like contradiction. more

carribbean fun 2/3/2003

this bar is fun and laidback with great music...mostly 80s and hip-hop. Though the small bar gets quite crowded at night, it's friendly and unpretentious. I would highly recommend it to those sick of high priced bars and ritzy lounges! Pros: friendly, great music, fun Cons: crowded, north beach location, small more

The arcade next door is more fun 12/20/2002

never mind the crowds, the rude bartenders, or the odd restroom situation, the bottomline is: there are about 15 better bars within a block. Life is too short for places like this one. Pros: location Cons: service, restrooms, crowded more

One Word... Awful!!! 12/3/2002

If you like covercharges, overpriced drinks, and unfriendly bartenders... all in a run-down atmosphere, you'll love the Bamboo Hut. The bamboo hut rivals most trips to the dentist, but at least at the dentist, you have a chance of seeing a decent looking girl. You have been warned. -The North Beach Regular more

A cover charge for this place? 12/2/2002

save yourself a few bucks. buy yourself a six pack, put on a def leppard CD, and invite over the four ugliest girls you know... ...or go anywhere but the bamboo hut. Pros: music Cons: service, crowded, decor more

fabulous atmosphere 8/6/2002

It's great little bar with a lot of character, great music to dance to and some super cute bar tenders! Be prepared to get close to your neighbor because this bar is not large and people will dance where ever they find space. But hey, what better excuse is there to cozy up next to that cutie you've been eyeing! Get there early and snag the room in back for your own personal party. more

great time, cheap drinks 7/2/2002

Went here on a Friday for happy hour and had a total blast. The drinks are strong and cheap, the crowd was friendly. I'd definitely recommend this place for after-work drinks. more

  • In Short
From the giant tiki god guarding the entrance to the bamboo- and grass-covered bar, this small cocktail lounge is an island unto itself among the glitter and sleaze of Broadway. Paper blowfish lamps hang dimly over large upholstered booths along the back wall. A DJ booth is perched near an open area up front. A wide range of fun music happens late night; but the place is usually too crowded for dancing.
