Employees who take pride in their work 9/28/2007

Ballard Market has top-quality meats and produce, plus a nice variety of foods and household goods. But what makes this the supermarket I go to three or more times a week is the outstanding customer service. Staff are unfailingly helpful, attentive, and engaged. I've been particularly impressed with the people in the meat and fish areas who have ordered special cuts of meat for me, advised me on recipes, and cut and packaged meats for freezing. The deli folks are great, too. more

Who's your rose' wine daddy 9/1/2006

Okay, perhaps that's a tacky title line but we love shopping in the summertime for great French rose' wine deals at Ballard Market. Rose' is wonderful with BBQ and summertime is perfect for a wine like this that has some body but is chilled for warm days and nights. The rest of the year you'll find other great wine deals here too and the produce section is generally good. For the Ballard area this is the place to go for cheese too. Hmmm... do you think that was intentional with the wine department? The meat department here is small but good and when we aren't going for staple items (why we shop at Safeway) then we go for specialty items at Ballard Market. It's sister store up north, Central Market, is like this shop but on steroids and it gives Whole Foods a run for their money. more

Bulk food, organic produce, and cheese samples 4/22/2006

I admit it. Sometimes we go shopping on Saturdays JUST for the cheese samples. And we're the shameless folks who sample more than once...:) But it's because they have these delicious imported cheeses...and yummy crackers! But we end up buying some, so we're not freeloaders, honest! It's great to go to a neighborhood, locally owned, really nice grocery store that's still affordable. We can get all the stuff we get at other upscale markets. Produce is always good. Breads are great. Bulk food is extensive. And this is a weird thing, but I love those half carts...I told you, it's weird. Try it. You'll never go full cart again. more

a great grocery store 3/9/2006

It's the Ballard Market on 15th in Ballard. This store has the greatest produce of any market around. It's always very fresh, and their displays are inviting. It's not always the best price, but it doesn't even compare with whole wallet! The meat is not the best, although they do carry some oregon country beef, if you're in to that. The wine selection is marvelous, and the olive bar is high quality. more

It's all in the family 3/8/2006

I love the Ballard Market for many reasons. It is run by a wonderful family that really cares about it's employees. There are a couple other branches in Mill Creek and Poulsbo but this one is my fave. The food is fresh and they have a wonderful organic selection. You can really see the focus of their store in every department, from the beautiful cheeses to the all natural, sugar-free (yet delicious) pastries to the wine selection. They are a lot more friendly and knowledgeable than any other chain store. Most of their staff have been there for a long time and really take pride in their store. However, I must say the absolute best thing about this store is that it is really close to the fire department and on hot summer nights, some of them come in with little t-shirts on! more

Trader who 12/29/2005

I love this store. It's open 24 hours and nearly all of the food they sell is pure and organic. But they have deals all the time, so you won't miss a swipe card at all! Great bulk foods selection, as well as amazing coffee, cheese, deli meats... everything you could want! more

Great neighborhood market 12/28/2005

Used to love this market even before the remodel, and now it's just beautiful. I miss having the video section, but they had to compete with the nearby Safeway, so they decided what was best business-wise. It's just a great neighborhood market, and I love shopping here! more

The answer to snobby Whole Foods 8/19/2005

I love the Ballard Market. I admit, I'm not a diehard "natural foods" person and am just as happy w/ an Oreo as with an organic apple. However, I do enjoy getting fresh produce and like some hard to find items, like Pocki. The Ballard market is great for me. They have all the "normal" groceries (like Oreos!) and an awesome selection of produce, international items and big bins of grains, rice, etc. My only complaint is that it's always FREEZING in there! more

My favorite! 8/19/2005

This is one of the best grocery stores I have ever seen. I love the healthy and unique selection of foods! The employees are very helpful and the selection is fabulous. The pricing is actual very reasonable for such a nice natural market. I highly recommend, we go at least once a week. more

Ballard market is a great mix of natural and conventional 8/18/2005

I love shopping at Ballard Market! They are the perfect mix of natural and conventional - with organic and whole foods on the shelves right next to conventional foods and wares. They are open 24 hours as well, so they are very convenient. more
