I went to Nick to get my hair colored from a highlighted blonde to a warm brown for Fall. I have been going to Nick for cuts for about a year and a half. So I tell Nick what I want, and I bring pictures to help. He didn't seem to even remember having discussed my hair color change at my last cut a few weeks ago, which was a little off putting, as we had a consultation about it. 45 minutes later, and my hair is wet on my shoulders. I look at it and say to him "Wow, this is much darker than I expected". Not in a rude or accusatory way, just in a way with the subtext, "please tell me that we can lighten it a little, or fix this in some way because this just looks wrong on me". And he instantly freaks out. He immediately jumps on the defensive, which was also not a good sign. That signaled to me that he agreed with my thought that it looked awful with my skin tone. And he starts (wait, are you ready for this?) YELLING at me. Yelling at ME, his client. It was beyond mortifying. He's yelling "Well, I did EXACTLY what you asked for. I did exactly what was in the photo you showed me!! Just WAIT until it's blowdried. WAIT! We'll look at it in the sun outside." It got to the point where I had to flat out say "Excuse me, but why are you yelling at me?" repeatedly. It was so embarassing. I started to tear up for being yelled at, and for looking like a pale goth teenager circa 1994. The nice stylist next to me reassured me that it wasn't black, but a dark brown. Regardless of what color it technically is, it looks absolutetly awful. He didn't offer to fix it. He didn't offer to talk about other options. Only when I was leaving, did he apologize (somewhat) and asked if I was sure I was happy. After being publicly humiliated, I just wanted to get the hell out of there. And would not trust him to touch my hair after such an awful judgement call on his part. Both with the color, and more imporantly, the way he handled the situation. I will never return to Nick or the Avalon Salon.
Pros: Good location
Cons: Awful colorists, awful attitude, amateur stylists
