Editorial review from Citysearch 9/5/2012

*Sigh*...where do I start.\r \r Let me start on a positive note and praise just how beautiful this piece of real-estate is. It's nestled in the downtown Austin area and is surrounded by lush green trees. This is why I feel in love with the place (because of the location). I went and viewed/toured the property with my fiance about 12 months prior to my wedding. We went on a tour with a lady named Shannon Lloyd (who I assume worked at the Inn part time). She was friendly and nice and gave us a tour of the property. She explained what we needed to hold the date and gave us a contract to look at. \r \r I fell in love right away. I had this vision of a beautiful courtyard wedding taking place there. \r \r Fast forward a couple of months and I stop hearing from Shannon and directly from JILL BICKFORD. Who is the owner of the Inn. She comes off friendly at first and loves to receive our payments for the wedding, however as the wedding quickly approaches she turns into a nightmare!\r \r The week of the wedding when we were trying to iron out last minute details so became a big stress to us. She did not allow a space for our caterer to clean her dirty dishes after dinner, we had to provide our own tables for set up of our meal and deliver them BUT they could only be delivered the evening before, she interrupted our mariachi's at dinner over the DJ PA system to have our guests move a vehicle from the Inn parking lot, she did not have our tables set up and ready for our florist to deliver and set up the centerpieces, my father and other guest had to do that for her. My parents arrived at the venue at 4p.m. which is the time she stated vendors could start setting up and she charged us extra for doing so even though she needed help setting up?! RIDICULOUS! During the reception she threw a chair across the deck in a rage because a guest of ours had moved it there and ""it was in her way."" The bar tending service she provided was unsatisfactory to our standards as she only hired one bartender/ one bar for 200 guests. We had to provide our own ice, cups, and garnishes for the bar as well (NONE OF THIS WAS WRITTEN IN THE CONTRACT). The cake cutting service she provided was also the bar tender who was supposed to be tending to the bar. After we cut our cake the bartender left the bar to serve the rest of the cake for us. Once again, I had my own guests behind the bar serving drinks to other guests. She charged us to pick up and dispose of the cups from the tables that HER bar provided. She also charged us for throwing rose petals on the ground as part of our send off. THEY WERE REAL, BIODEGRADABLE ROSE PETALS!!! REALLY?!! The icing on the cake is when my newly married husband and I decided not to stay the night because of how unprofessional she was even though we already paid a $200 fee for that as well. We drove around that night in search of a hotel because we wanted to get as far away from Jill as possible.\r \r In the end, out of our $500 refundable deposit she stated we were only getting back $30 & we still haven't received that yet. \r \r MORAL OF THE STORY: JILL BICKFORD IS AN UNPLEASANT PERSON TO WORK WITH!!! SAVE THE HEADACHE AND LOOK ELSEWHERE & thank God for my husband and alcohol because that is the only reason I enjoyed that night. more

Great Location, Great Place! 8/23/2010

What a neat place! Austin's Inn is hidden less than a block away from UT campus, but somehow manages to be private and quiet. Each room has a neat theme such as Safari, Library, etc. We stayed in the French Room, a Continentally-decorated room with a vintage claw bathtub! The staff was excellent, helping to ensure we had a great evening. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. more

Beautiful and Serene 8/14/2010

My husband, 10-year-old daughter and I wanted a break from our usual Friday night routine which is usually dinner and a movie. We did something totally different for us which is stay at a B&B! We live in Austin and wanted a quiet, pleasant stay somewhere without having to drive to the Hill Country. Austin's Inn at Pearl Street was the perfect place. Beautiful architecture, authentic interior design and themed rooms that were so beautiful. We stayed in ""Library"" room. Accomodations were very comfortable, everything was super clean and staff was friendly and helpful. The deck/patio area was beautiful at night and it didn't even feel like we were in Austin. It was comparable to or better than some of the B&B's we have visited in Fredericksburg. We had a nice relaxing time and it was a nice break from our usual routine. And my 10-year old was not bored! Beautiful stay!!! more

Hidden Gem 7/30/2010

The Austin’s Inn At Pearl Street is a lovely boutique B&B that must be seen to be appreciated. My recent stay was memorable due to the properties staff as well as the gorgeous grounds and the uniquely appointed and extremely comfortable rooms. The proximity to the many museums, UT, the capitol, Zilker Park, the diverse dining opportunities, and the downtown night life make for a quick walk or a short cab ride. This wonderful place would be the perfect setting for a weekend getaway or a special event. Pros: Very Comfortable more

Back In Time 7/29/2010

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Austin's Inn at Pearl Street. The hotel is located in the Judges Hill area. I grew up in Austin and this was like a trip back in time to for me. The rooms are all individually themed. I stayed in the Safari room and the appointments immediately transformed me to the plains of Africa. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of UT, several museums, and the capitol; downtown, 6th street, and Zilker Park are just a short cab ride away. The grounds offer a large deck area underneath old growth Pecan trees that is perfect for socializing. It was a very enjoyable stay and I look forward to my next visit. more

mysterious and exciting 7/29/2010

This was my first stay at the Inn at Pearl Street, my first time to a boutique hotel! I will never go back! I loved how each room was themed and styled so different, each feeling as though I was actually traveling somewhere else.... Everything was so ""comfortable"" and ""home-y"" while still being in a new place on an awesome vacation. It was awesome being able to experience something so different, while being close to all the hot areas of Austin. The staff was SO helpful and genuine. I loved the lighted patio out back, and the safari room!! I will definitely be staying here again, and recommending it to friends and family. I wish I could live here! more

Absolutely Blissful 7/19/2010

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Austin's Inn at Pearl Street. I had no idea this place even existed, but I am so glad that I do now. It is simply gorgeous! The rooms are beautifully decorated. The garden area is very shaded and relaxing. I stayed in the Gothic room and really enjoyed being able to enjoy the morning on the balcony. Staying in this room w/ it's marble bathroom made me feel like royalty. I honestly cannot wait to return. more

A Hidden Gem 7/19/2010

We recently had the opportunity to stay Austin’s Inn at Pearl Street. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and find the place to be very interesting and unique. The attention to detail is unsurpassed. Everywhere you look, there is something to see, both inside and out. The garden area is very shaded and inviting, and is a nice place to sit and enjoy a cocktail in the evening. We stayed in the “Far East” room and thought it was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The Inn is full of antiques, but also has all the modern conveniences you would expect in a 5-star hotel. This is a great Inn in a great location! Pros: Quiet and Charming Cons: Entrance is hard to find more

Austin's best Inn 7/18/2010

Austin’s Inn at Pearl Street is a fantastic boutique hotel with an elegant ambiance. My husband and I stayed in the Library room and the décor was perfect. The bed was extremely comfortable providing us with a great nights rest. If you want to stay close to Downtown Austin or The University of Texas this is perfect. I loved the attention to detail and atmosphere. Thank you for a fantastic weekend. Pros: Close to Downtown Austin and UT more

Beautiful hideaway! 7/8/2010

I greatly enjoyed my stay at Austin’s Inn at Pearl Street. The place is absolutely magical! It is really like a whole other world right in the middle of downtown Austin. Each room is decorated beautifully, we stayed in the French Suite and it was gorgeous. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. I loved how accessible we were to other restaurants and entertainment in the area. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Austin or locals who need a break for a couple nights. more

I loved it! 7/7/2010

The rooms are beautifully made up with gorgeous detail and a very warm environment. I recommend The Gothic Room as I enjoyed the evening relaxing with friends and had a restful nights sleep in the most comfortable bed. I can’t wait to make my trip back to Austin’s Inn at Pearl Street. Pros: Great location and staff. Cons: I wish I had a longer stay. more

Hidden Garden 7/6/2010

Our stay at Austin’s Inn at Pearl St. was an overall comfortable and impressive experience. The whole property feels like a secret garden with enveloping trees and beautiful architecture. The layout of the property gives you the privacy and comfort that would otherwise be unexpected given its VERY central location. Quite literally in the heart of Austin, we had immediate access to most of the “must-dos” when visiting the city. The staff was extremely accommodating and was happy to recommend places to eat and things to do around town. At the same time they were very respectful of our privacy and happy to let us do our own thing. We were given a tour of the entire facility and each room has its own unique theme. We really did enjoy browsing all the unique antique furniture. While walking around you got the feeling you were in a museum given the story and rarity of each furniture piece as well as fixtures and even some of the doors. Overall Austin’s Inn at Pearl St. provides a secluded, interesting place to stay right in the middle of the action. Well done. Pros: Beautiful more

pleasant and inviting 7/3/2010

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at the Inn. It is very cozy and quiet with many outdoor peaceful, private areas for reflection or romance. This is not grandma's house! The museum quality antiques range from African masks to elegant French furniture. Conveniently located near restaurants, shops, downtown and the university, we enjoyed walking. The Inn is safe and friendly, located in a charming historic neighborhood. Parking is ample and the check out / in process is convenient. I have recommended the Inn to friends who are looking for a stress free place to stay and to friends who are looking for a quaint wedding space. more

Gorgeous Bed and Breakfast 7/3/2010

My husband and I stayed for a night just to see how we'd like it for whenever we just wanted a little weekend get away and it was fabulous. The room we stayed in was the French Room and it was decorated beautifully. Accomodations were lovely and the atmosphere was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a weekend. There are plenty of signts to see since it is located downtown. Lots of restaurants to eat at as well as places to shop. I would love to stay here again in the near future! Pros: Comfortable, hot spot, internet, great staff Cons: Noise of downtown more

GREAT place. GREAT time. 7/2/2010

I don’t normally go to B&B’s but we had a “girls weekend” planned and we reserved rooms at Austin's Inn at Pearl St. on a suggestion from a co-worker. I stayed in the “Safari Room” it was as unique and beautiful as the bathroom in the room. The bed was so comfortable! The owner Jill and staff greeted us and made us feel so welcome. After seeing each other’s rooms we wanted to have a tour and she so graciously provided a tour of all four houses! What a treat, that afternoon we sat out on the porch drinking wine and visiting. With all the strands of twinkle lights made it so inviting. The Inn was so close to Sixth Street that evening! And shopping so close by! Will be bringing my husband the next time and reserve the “Gothic Suite” oh my goodness what a GORGEOUS room with whirlpool tub. Pros: So close to Everything! more

Gem in the middle of the City 6/30/2010

This B & B was absolutely perfect! We stayed at this gem of a place for a night with a group of family and friends recently, and I was astounded at the work and thought that's been put into it! We stayed in the Gothic Room and looooooovvvved it! Alot of the rooms have their own private balconies and even the big garden tubs are a nice touch. We got a tour of the grounds and later sat on the common deck area sipping wine under the beautiful lit up trees. The on-site manager, Shannon, was so helpful and made sure our stay was amazing, and the owner even came out and introduced herself; very welcoming! Such a pleasure, we'll definitely be back! Oh, and my love popped the question there too... very romantic spot!! Pros: Beautiful! Great Staff more

Get Away in the City 6/28/2010

Austin's Inn at Pearl Street was a great getaway. The staff at the Inn was very accommodating throughout the entire stay. A group of girl friends met up for a night to escape the city and kick back. We enjoyed a night out on the patio with a few glasses of wine, and then walked over to a neighborhood restaurant for dinner. I felt like I was not in Austin, the vibe of the inn was relaxing yet still beautifully designed. I cannot wait to visit the Inn again. It will definitely turn into a more often occurrence. more

Austin's Inn at Pearl Street 6/27/2010

During my 40 plus years I have traveled throughout the United States, South America and Western Europe. I have stayed in many hotels, motels, hostels and the occassional bed and breakfast. I even worked at a 5 star rated hotel in Geneva, Switzerland for several years. When I was recently presented with the opportunity to stay at a charming, small hotel in Austin, Texas I eagerly accepted. \r \r Austin is a cultural mecca for Texas. Not only is it the state capital it is the home of renowned music and film festivals such as South By Southwest. Austin is also the home of The University of Texas and their championship team the Longhorns. Austin traditionally embraces the ecclectic in a state known for its more conservative inclinations. Needless to say my expectations were for a unique experience. I was not disappointed!\r \r Austin's Inn at Pearl Street is located just west of downtown Austin. the neighborhoods are quiet and full of lovely old victorians. The state capital building is down the street as well as the Bob Bullock Texas Museum and the IMAX theater. Delicious eateries abound. We ate at an Italian bistro that was a short hike away and was just fantastic.\r \r When we first arrived at Austin's Inn at Pearl Street we were warmly greeted and shown our room. The Inn has sufficiant parking off the street. The Inn itself is 3 houses and one cottage for the staff. The property is lovely and you get a feeling of seclusion from the outside city. Almost every room has it's own private balcony and the communal patio between the houses just begs for weddings and parties. Our room was aptly named the Safari Room. Each room has it's own name and corresponding style. Such as The Oxford, The Venetian and The Gothic. The Safari Room, as you might imagine, has the distinct flavor of colonial Africa. A four poster queen bed with decorative mosquito netting is the center piece. There's a nook and cranny for an amazing assortment of decorative items within the room and bathroom. The bathroom was large and comfortable as was the private balcony. \r \r The Inn has several libraries with books and movies available for a guest's perusal, and snacks are set out seemingly everywhere. Every room has the mandatory TV, but meandering about the Inn is infinitely more entertaining. The decor and the furnishings are tasteful and charming. There are a variety of styles. It is obvious that a lot of time and attention was put into the ambience. It all comes together if you get the chance to meet Jill, the owner of Austin's Inn at Pearl Street. She is welcoming, charming, open, fun, all the things that you could hope for from the proprietor of such a lovely bed and breakfast. The staff is very well suited to their tasks, very enjoyable company and all too happy to provide you with a tour.\r \r I would stay here again, happily and often. I would recommend Austin's Inn at Pearl Street. Couples will love it and so will anyone planning a wedding or a get together of friends, family and business associates. Pros: Personal, charming, convenient more
