Had a perfect lunch at Atticus with some people from work. I see where "borders" and "Barnes and noble" got...

Bookstore with Ivy League feel and a cafe to boot 9/23/2005

Before Barnes & Noble had a cafe section, the idea was done to perfection at Atticus. A satisfying collection of best sellers, art, literature, poetry, music, etc., and a café in the bookstore so you can do your browsing sitting down. You have to love a place that lets you hold a beverage while you read their merchandise. Open 8 am-Midnight everyday. more

A book and some joe 8/21/2005

Located on Chapel Street in New Haven, this mainstay cafe/bookstore is a great place to pick up something to go or to waste a few hours. One side of the store is a bookshop/gift shop and the other a small cafe with huge homemade sandwiches, scones and great coffee. You can also pick up fresh homemade breads there while you're at it. The bookshop is always stocked with the most recent publications. more

The most delighful bookstore bakery cafe far and away 8/18/2005

Nestled right on the most heavily frequented strip of Chapel Street is New Haven's gem of a bookstore, which also happens to run one of the best bakeries around. Naturally geared towards the student crowd, the bookstore carries more than the usual blockbuster. The selection is eclectic and sometimes surprising, and it is almost as much fun to browse the aisles for books as it is to take one out, order a scone or a muffin, sit down and read through it. Since Atticus is located right in the middle between two world-class museums, it is not surprising that the selection of books on art and photography is especially strong. More friendly and cozy than the big chain bookstore nearby, Atticus is a delightful place to stop in, spend an hour or quietly sip coffee while reading a book. more

Comfortable place with books around. 8/5/2005

The cafe is within the bookstore. You can pick up a book while you're eating something. Their sandwich is really good and so is their soup. My wife loves the taste of their bread. This cafe is located in a very convenient place. It's near from Yale Old Campus and New Haven Green. There are many good restaurants around it. There are two art gallerys near the cafe too. more

Not just a bookstore 7/7/2005

Good for fresh baked goods, sandwiches (on delightful fresh baked bread), soup or salad. A counter and section of tables in a charming local bookstore, Atticus is perfect for grabbing a quick working lunch or cup of coffee with a colleague. During the academic year, you'll often find groups of Yalies studying over snacks and piles of books. If the semi-productive atmosphere doesn't appeal, then ask the bookstore staff for their fiction recommendations and lose yourself in a book. They don't often disappoint. Note: if you're in the area after 6pm, you can buy that day's bread for a discount - it comes from the chabaso bakery, and is delicious in all its varieties. more
