I live near Astoria Bakery, so I have given it numerous chances to impress. And it fails every time. They make decent bread. Nothing exceptional, but it is solidly good and always fresh. Just don't get anything else. The cupcakes? Either several days old or just way too dry-- like eating a sponge. Danish pastry is supposed to be a perfect marriage of a yeast dough and flaky pastry-- not like a sweet dinner roll. The one time I ordered a muffin there, it was filled with bitter/sour cranberries in a flavorless muffin. The pizza dough, while claiming to be ""the best pizza dough"" (as it should be for $2 a pop), is flavorless and unworkable. I suspect they just bag leftover bread dough. The turnovers are fine, but no better than frozen, since they use ready-made fruit filling in all of their fruit pastries-- which are scarily artificially colored. The pie crusts are not flaky, the fillings are not favorful. Yes, do buy the bread, but as for everything else-- there are a number of other good bakeries in the area. Don't waste your time and money on this one.
Pros: Perfectly good bread
Cons: Nothing else is any good.
