I have been to Ashmont Grill a bunch - dinner with a group, brunch with the family, drinks and dessert at the bar with a friend, cozy romantic dinner by the fireplace on the patio. All my experiences have been fantastic overall. Maybe I've had the luck to always arrive a the right time, but I've never had to wait for a table even on busy nights. Favorite dish is the mussels with lots of garlic and a bit of spicy chourice flavor to them - I could eat a whole loaf of bread dipping it into that sauce! I particularly like that they offer mostly organic wines and that they try as much as possible to be local about their ingredients, e.g. a delicious heirloom tomato salad this summer. The menu is small-ish, which is fine, but I'd love to see them throw a little more variety into their standard offerings. Desserts are very yummy. My one criticism is that even though it's been around for a while now, they don't seem to juggle wait-service well enough on very busy nights (a forgotten glass of wine, a bit longer than comfortable wait post entree's for coffee/dessert). You can't beat sitting out in the back patio garden however - quiet and secluded, jut the right touch of lighting, and of course the wood-fire if it's cool enough - you feel like you could be ANYWHERE, not in the middle of Dorchester. This place is a boon to the neighborhood. I find it a very welcoming and relaxing place and love that I usually run into people I know there. I'm eager to see what their new place, Tavalo, across the street at the Carruth Center, is like.
