I'd never go anywhere else 5/17/2010

I simply cannot believe I'm reading ANY negative review about this store. I've been keeping fish for over 40 years (about as long as this store has been in business by the way!) and have been to many aquarium stores in my day and have been a customer of Aqualand in Minneapolis for over ten years now and I'll go nowhere else. Their customer service is consistently friendly, they have a knowledgeable staff, an excellent variety of fish and aquarium products (of which they can answer any question about) and their aquarium displays are beautiful and attractively presented. I always feel like I'm visiting good friends every time we go there. The other aquarium stores in the area do not compare. For example, there is one notable aquarium store in the area on Penn Avenue--I've been there several times. There is nearly no room to move around in and getting help is almost impossible--you almost have to catch the fish you want yourself, etc. If you have to wait that long just to purchase your fish, forget about getting any kind of other assistance! I don't know how many times I've gotten an extra fish for free at Aqualand because they scooped up one extra by accident. That's how they are over there. I highly recommend Aqualand to any hobbyists young and old. HIGHEST RATING! Pros: Top quality service, expertise Cons: Kind of warm in there during the summer! more

Best Aquarium in the Twin Cities 1/11/2010

I think the only bad review here was written by a competitor. Aqualand is the absolute best aquarium store in MN. The fish all look healthy and well fed and the prices are great. I keep discus, and you wouldn't believe how much some other shops charge for these animals. At Aqualand the discus are the best I've ever purchased and @ the best value as well. Grade: A Pros: Great fish, great prices more

Great place for freshwater fish 10/23/2009

I am fairly new to fish-keeping so I really appreciate the friendly and knowledgable staff at Aqualand. Whether I know exactly what I'm looking for or need a lot of guidance, they have always treated me very well and provided great service. I've never felt rushed even though I've spent a lot of time walking around, considering my options, asking questions. They let you know a fish's temperment (aggressive, shy, etc) so you can make informed decisions about which fish you want to bring into your aquarium. My fish are all healthy and I wouldn't shop anywhere else for fish or aquarium supplies. Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff; large selection more

Worst place ever to buy fish 5/26/2009

This place is a joke they know nothing about salt water aquariums. They act like they do and will sell you anything to get the sale. SO if you want to waste a bunch of money on things that will not work for you then go ahead. Pros: Sell things like a dirty car sales man Cons: everything more

An Amazing Store, And Staffed With Wonderful Friendly People. 6/27/2008

I have used this store through Goldfish, Tropical fish, Inverts, and Saltwater fish. Every question is answered without being made to feel ignorant. Not once in my experiences have I felt I was being pushed into a purchase. They willingly test your water and help you achieve a safe environment before moving into stocking your tank. But by far, the most lasting impression this store leaves on me is the courtesy they have given to me and my family as we loiter around enjoying the Aquarium Experience offered by having such an amazing amount of species to look at. Aqualand is a must for anyone thinking about getting into the hobby of fish keeping. Without them, I would be lost. Thank you. more

Thanks Aqualand 5/10/2008

I have been going to Aqualand since I was a kid and their big turtle, has always greeted me. A nice local business, the store has always helped me pick out the right mix for my tanks and prescribed fixes appropriately. Most recently, I had an issue with my filter. I thought I needed a new one, but they serviced it free of charge. I wouldn't deal with anyone else. Pros: No nonsense service. Cons: Only open until 6PM on weekends. more

Solid! 4/18/2008

Aqualand has the best selection of freshwater fish that I've seen in the Twin Cities. The saltwater selection, while not vast, appears to be in good health. I'm a bit frustrated because they keep telling me that they are going to get some small piranhas in, but they haven't had any for some time. They always seem to have large piranhas, instead. These folks must have a lot of enthusiasm for what they do, if their gratuitous use of the outdated high-five is any indication. \r \r Pros: Great tank prices and friendly staff. Cons: Parking. more

My favorite fish store 4/9/2008

After seeing a couple of the negative reviews on here I felt I should speak up. I have been going to Aqualand for some time now and it is easily my favorite aquarium shop. They probably have the best fresh water selection in the state (I personally haven't seen any better) and no matter what kinds equipment I need, they seem to have it in stock. They have a large variety of food and plants and their aquarium show room is easily the nicest around. \r \r My favorite part about Aqualand is the staff. They are always friendly and eager to help. One thing that I have noticed is that when they ask ""Can I help you?"" they don't mean ""Can I sell you something?"", they really mean ""Can I HELP you"". On several occasions I have gone in to the store, thinking I needed to buy or replace something only to have them ask a few questions and give me some great advice - this last time I thought I needed to replace my filter so I brought it in with me so I could get a similar one. One of the staff asked if he could look at it, he then took it apart, cleaned it a little and handed it right back to me in working condition. I was ready and willing to spend $70 on a new filter that day, but they just cleaned my current one and gave it back to me - at no charge. They honestly and sincerely seem to care more about the fish and their customers more than the quick sale - So I really do not agree with the 'used car salesman' comments that I have seen here. \r \r I do still shop around, but Aqualand is always my first choice for fish and advice, and it is where I end up making almost all of my purchases. I also have recommended plenty of friends and they are all happy with their purchases. \r \r Give these guys a shot, you wont regret it. Pros: Great selection of fish. Huge show room. The nicest staff of any fish store. Cons: They close at 6PM on Saturdays - I prefer to shop a little later on weekends. more

Check this place out 3/29/2008

This is the best first store around. I've been to all of the other fish stores in the area and they can't compare to Aqualand. Aqualand has the best, most helpful staff around. They never tried to push anything on us, answer any questions we might come up with, and are always willing to take time to help us out. The other shops in town offer very little personal help. The shop is huge with a great variety of fish and anything else you might need for your tank. We have a saltwater and a freshwater tank and we get everything from Aqualand. In fact, while we're in the store we even pick up food for our dog and cats, they seem to carry it all. Don't let the bad reviews on this site turn you away. Their experience in nothing like we have ever had. We've recommended the store to lots of friends and everyone has been very happy with their experiences. Before you go anywhere else, check out this place. Pros: Friendly & helpful staff, great selection, large showroom, not crowded Cons: Parking could be better more

Worst Firsh Shop 3/21/2008

The tanks are dirty and not kept up and the staff know nothing about the species, habitat, eating or living requirements of the animals, much less the prices! The store is very dirty and run-down from the outside and inside.\r It is very disgusting that they keep a large South-American turtle inside in a tank so small that it can hardly turn around.\r They are the worst of all the shops near TwinCities. Pros: Can't Think of Any Cons: Dirty, Unknowledgable Staff, Very Poor Treatment of Animals more

Car Salesmen 3/21/2008

I went down to Auqaland couple days ago to shop for some new saltwater fish. Once I step into the store, these guys turn in used car salesmen. Every answer I give they try to push some other gadget that I know I don't need. So I spend 20 min trying to look at their selection while the guy kept selling, selling and selling. I ended up walking out with a bad taste in my mouth.\r \r Aside from their bad salesmen, their tank does not look good at all. Each and every tank is overstock, making their fish looking very stressed and unhealthy. They also keep a large turtle within a poorly made tank that barely fits him, and he looks sooooo miserable. I really feel sorry for him, these Aqualand guys clearly doens't care about their animals. Cons: Animal Cruelty, Very Pushy Salesmen, Hight Prices more

Terrible Store 3/21/2008

I bought a tank from them last week thinking that it would be a good buy. The employee there sad that, up till the point of sale, it was being used by them as a freshwater tank, and that it was in good condition. COMPLETE LIE.\r \r I had to clean it for 5 hours. That's how dirty it was. The tank could not possibly be in use, I found three spiders, yes SPIDERS. Also there were two LEAKS I had to fix, even though the worker a Auqaland assured me that there's absolutely not leaks. He said that the tank has been and was used as a functional tank up till the time of the sale. LIES!!!!\r I called three times and explaining the problems, but they keep saying ALL SALES ARE FINAL, and wouldn't hear any of it.\r \r So Let this be a lesson to me and YOU. Go some where else, like Wet World, Something Fishy, World of Fish, Saltwater Empire. They are all very close to Auqaland, most of them have better selection, and all of them have better service. Heck, even Petsmart and Petco are much much better.\r \r Thank you for hearing my rant. For your own good, say away!!! Pros: Close to DownTown Mpls Cons: Lying Salesmen, poor saltwater selction, terrible quality in their product more

Awesome store!!!!!! 4/7/2006

This store has a huge selection of fish and supplies...the best in the cities. It also has the biggest selection of tanks on hand in the cities. There is lots of room to move around in this store, and the staff is helpful. Pros: variety, good parking, selection more

Cool fish place IN the city!! 1/4/2006

This store is just located in South Minneapolis and it is a pretty nice place! Lot's of large tanks for sale and friendly staff. Their selection of fish is great and seems to be getting larger and even better now! They have large tanks and small tanks. Good selection of cichlids and large predatory fishes like Arowanas. A saltwater section as well. This store along with Forest Lake Pets are my favorites! Pros: Great Location!, Good Selection, Friendly staff more
