even their inconsistency was not consistent 3/2/2008

Went for 5280 week and was disappointed. First off, I didn't know it was 5280 week, the hostess should have mentioned something because we were unable to order anything from the regular menu. Had we of known we might have not stayed. The service was slow and the food was below par. Clam chowder was basic, lobster tail - disappointing and the sea bass was TERIBBLE, it should melt in your mouth. Oysters were average. This place tries to be a top notch restaurant, yet their wine list is lacking, and their ambiance is atrocious. On every table the settings are different, right down to the forks and plates, however, I do not know if this is a theme of theirs. If it is, it should be more consistent. They served me white wine in a red wine glass. Don't know if they were trying to be cute. Save yourself the money, go to Hooters-wings for oysters. Pros: available parking Cons: friendly chef more

Would not go back if it was FREE!!!!!!!! 2/29/2008

Don't go! We went for 5280 week with 2 other couples and everything about it sucked. The bathrooms were nasty with no soap, toilet paper everywhere, etc.. Also, our waitress was ""slow"". We could hardly understand her and it took forever for our drinks. Once the main course came we all agreed the Lobster Tail was below par. Chewy, no flavor, and they left it in the shell. Drinks way too high in price too. If you are looking for Jim, or Grey Goose..forget it they dont have it. For 6 of us with drinks the bill was over $300 bucks and this was during 5280 week!! Kevin Taylor at the Opera house is 1 million times better. Pros: they had Valet parking Cons: everything else more

A sinking ship 2/9/2008

We went for happy hour. The place was empty. It was like they didn't expect custormers. One of the kitchen staff sat in the lounge area using his hand held device for 15 min. There were dishes and empty food containers stacked on a side bar. The bar stools were stained. One of the cooks put on his white top as he stood as the side bar. The back room was not lit and the furniture was scattered about like a storeroom. The mirror in the bothroom was broken with jagged pieces sticking out. We just wanted to escape before the place is shut down and put out of it's misery. Some food was being cooked and the place started to smell like there was no vent hood. There is one aquarium which was a needed place to look at and enjoy while ignoring the rest. more

Worst service ever 1/10/2008

The interior tries to hard to be trendy, and it doesn?t work. The bathrooms were dirty, the seating arraignment uncomfortable (my back hurt when I left from having to lean forward and up to eat). The service was slow and inattentive (45 mins for 2 drinks, really?). TThe service was slow, unreliable, inexperienced, and lacked attention to detail. In the first 30 minutes we had 1 round of drinks, then we had to chase a waiter down. We got our second round 15 minutes after that and they finally took our order. 15 minutes after our order (60 minutes after we were sat) our first course came, salad or clam chowder. The salad was fresh and light with lots of taste?clam chowder was wallpaper paste (no taste). The second course was the oysters or crabs cakes. Both were decent, but not fabulous. Pros: The Sea Bass was good...yea Cons: Everything else more

Fantastic experience 6/17/2007

I was visiting Denver with a friend who will be moving there in a month and we were came across Aqua. Delicious oysters, great make-your-own-salad feature, and the crab cakes -- almost too rich -- were like nothing I'd ever tasted before (in a good way). My friend and I sat at the bar and go to know the staff, who were quite knowledgeable about the oysters and extremely friendly and helpful talking about their town. Trendy atmosphere but tasteful. Aqua had only been open about 6 months when I went, so I imagine there have been and still are some growing pains with a new place, but at least the night I was there, they had everything down just right. Pros: oysters! food, service more

Inexperienced 4/2/2007

I was pretty psyched about trying this place. Really great space with potential for great atmosphere and food. I was rather disappointed. We took a look at the restaurant website before we made our reservation to make sure the menu was palatable. While the fare offered the night we went was tasty, it was a different menu from that online. Even their 5280 special had changed even though it was still published online. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed and inexperienced; when our food came it was delicious, except that the mashed potatoes tasted like saline. Two of our diners could not finish their dinner based on the sheer saltiness of the potatoes. When we approached the chef he tasted the potatoes and told us they were clearly over-salted and said he would not serve them to anyone else. However we were made to pay for all of our entrees, even those sent back. Not once did a manager or anyone in charge come over to ask us what was going on. In addition, one of our friends ordered the salmon in puff pastry. All the entrees came except his; after about 10 more minutes of all of us staring at our plates waiting for his entree, the waitress snootily told us that items in puff pastry take longer. Some one should educate this staff on ticket times and the importance of ordering longer ticket items early--most of us were eating sashimi and raw oysters so obviously those would have come out first. The decor at Aqua is clearly designed to be trendy, but it really just comes off as cold and unwelcoming. If I could sum this place up in one word it would be INEXPERIENCED. Wait a few months to a year and maybe they'll get it together. Pros: Free valet Cons: Terrible service more

Has Potential, but Not There Yet... 3/22/2007

I had been anxious to try Aqua since I first read about it; the menu sounded fresh & the atmosphere cool. My first impression upon arriving was that the space was trendy, but at the same time felt kind of cold. It's a tall room & feels a little like a warehouse. Could definitely use more in terms of decor. I arrived before my friend and sat at the bar. It was happy hour & they were pouring double portions of wine. Unfortunately, the wine list is lacking, A LOT. While decently priced, there are only a few wines by the glass & most of them are Beringer. I expect more from a restaurant specializing in seafood. Pros: Service, ability to order oysters individually Cons: Wine-list, ambience more
