Not sure what happened to Cocotte, and tried Belleville once, and have totally boycotted Moutarde (terrible service, tables crammed together, food always cold and tasteless). AOC seems to me to be the only place to go. The vibe is v brooklyn - relaxed but stylsh; the decor is modern/trendy but comfortable. We've been here a bunch of times wtih friends and although the service can sometimes be patchy, the food is excellent, as is the wine list. I have developed cravings for the spinach filo salad, and the burgers are great. Only thing I've had there that wasn't so good was moules frites, which didn't taste fresh. If you can put up with the sometimes snotty woman at the front of the house, it's well worth the visit. In my view, it trumps Al Di La.
Pros: cool vibe, great authentic french food, good wine list
Cons: watch for the frumpy maitre de.... she'll scare you a little bit.
