Anti-Cruelty Society is absolutely the best! 8/7/2010

We visited Anti-Cruelty Society last Saturday to see if we could find a dog after losing our beloved Max 5 weeks ago. We had the most charming fellow help us to find the right dog. The lady, Dotty, that helped with the adoption was also very caring and informative. Everyone there was polite and attentive to not only us but also to the dogs. The premises were clean and there was no smell. more

The Anti-Cruelty Society Basically Stole My Dog 12/7/2008

My dog went missing two weeks ago. We had been actively looking for her ever since, and it turns out she was picked up and turned in at an Evanston shelter. Evanston sent her to the Anti-Cruelty Society on LaSalle, where I adopted her originally 2 years ago. Pros: Cheap fees, clean Cons: Very, very rude especially because we were younger (22 years old) more

Great Staff 6/9/2008

I just adopted a cat from them this week. After a few minutes of visiting the shelter, I felt completely confident that these animals had been shown care and concern. The staff has a genuine interest in the animals and insuring they go into a quality, ""forever"" home. The cat is the sweetest animal I have ever owned and is exactly the cat I was looking for. I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to my new buddy, and I would recommend the Anti-Cruelty Society. If one is not in a position to adopt, they should donate money or needed supplies, so they can continue to provide excellent care. Pros: great staff, clean facility, genuine concern/care for the animals more

14yrs of love & loyalty 4/2/2008

just like anywhere when you purchase a pet you have to be ready for the worst and hopeful for the best. I think that most people need to be realistic when they go to the anti cruelty for an animal. these are animals that were homeless,or couldn't be kept for some reason or another. but ultimately their survival depends on you. they are just waiting for someone to love and care for them and in return you just might be lucky enough to get many years of love in return. 14 yrs ago my dog ginger ran away, we looked every were...put up flyers went to animal shelters put up adds in local papers but to no avail. finally 3mons past and one day we went to the anti cruelty to look one more time. we didn't find ginger but out of know where we found the most adorable, loving brown eyed beauty we had ever know. we call her pebbles( thanks to the grandkids) but she's been a family member for 14yrs she is a shepherd mix about 50lbs & she still swears she's a lap dog. we were so blessed to find her & have the chance to love her. I can only hope you are so lucky. Pros: you just might find your best friend Cons: you take your chances more

sick dogs 11/13/2006

I would rather name this the Cruel Society. They give sick dogs to first time dog owners and say deal with it. Recently , my boyfriend acquired a dog from the society.. it took him a long time to commit to such a responsibility. Well, we brought the boy home after an excruciating interview from a woman who didn't give good advice to any new dog owner.. she was anti-crating and told us annually it would cost between $600-800 a year for a dog. Being educated people, we thought was a really low estimate considering the costs of getting a dog for the first time and acquiring all the necessities. HOwever, we didn't know that we had received a dog that had a pneumonia. After one day of having fun and loving him, we had to take him to an emergency care facility and he had to stay there over night because the society doesn't have any emergency vets on hand. $600 later, we had to take him back to the shelter where we got him ( incredibly sad) to see him stay there for a few more days because he had to be fed intravenously. Pros: there are dogs available Cons: they are sick more

Good cause 5/30/2002

If you want a pet, this should be your first step. Even if you don't like what you see, you'll at least get a better understanding of what kind of animal you want. I got a kitten here, and he's adorable. We love him very much and found that the process was very easy. The staff helped us stay logical and not get over our heads. more
