Unfortunate Greeting 11/20/2010

The first person I met in your restaurant was so full of attitude that I was grateful when there was a wait. ""The Reservation Name...?"" poured out of his mouth with such unwelcome, and condescension, as if too say, ""how could you possibly expect to get a seat in this restaurant tonight without a reservation?"" We were all on the same page... you and I both knew that we didn't have a reservation. If you did think we actually had a reservation, you never would have approached us with such an attitude. Too bad, all we were looking for was an idea of the wait time, and an invitation to the bar where we would have gladly dropped cash on drinks while we waited. People who are looking to dine in Andersonville, eat elsewhere... Calo, Great Lakes, the new Vincent, which had less open tables, and still sat us right away, with a smile and what seemed like a sense of appreciation for our business. more

More than pleasantly surprised!! 2/15/2009

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time last night, for Valentine's Day dinner, a night that he usually loathes going out for, due to the crowdedness, overpriced menus, and poor service that usually go hand in hand w/ the occasion! I was able to convince him to go out this year, and fortunately, we were both pleasantly surprised! Our waiter was prompt and friendly. Food came out in a timely fashion, despite the packed house. The food was EXCELLENT!!!!!! (And I never say that lightly). All the food was great, but the entrees really stole the show - my boyfriend had the double-cut lamb chops and I had a scallops special. Everything was cooked to perfection, the flavors were excellent. It was a culinary delight! It wasn't cheap, but for a special occasion, it was definitely worth the price. All in all, it was a perfect v-day meal, and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. Pros: amazing food, good service Cons: close dining area, noisy more

A refreshing change for Italian cuisine. Inside or outside patio dining, it was a perfect night for the patio. Not the typical pasta, sauce and meat Italian menu. Utilization of fresh and different ingrediants. Our server, Michael, was excellent in describing some the of menu items and making recommendations, expecially since there were some unfamiliar Italian terms on the menu. The wine list was adequate, our bottle of house cianti was a satifying choice after being disappointed by a more expensive wine earlier. For starters, the eight comination plate was a bounty of flavors to satisfy the tastes of all four of us. An exceptional starter was the asparagus sformado (most similiar to flan or souffle) rich in asparagus flavor with a light, velvety texture. The order of chicken gizzards (typically not a consideration for me) was surprisingly tender and served with a chunky vegetable sauce that was ""plate licking"" good. Of the pasta and main courses shared by the four of us, our favorites were wood-grilled whole fish, bucatini and tagliatelle. The pappardelle with morels (special) was weak on flavor. The dessert favorites included the lemon panna cotta and chocolate eespresso tart; from light and fruity to rich and decadent. The toasted meringue on the lemon layer cake was a nice touch. A dining experience we look forward to returning for; not the typical same ol' Italian food and reasonalbly priced. Pros: Menu knowledge, friendly, food freshness Cons: patio chairs can get uncomfortable more

overpriced and boring, boring, boring 8/6/2007

I hate this place. From start to finish it was an awful experience. Right off the bat, the host was snotty and pretentious. He told my party of two that the wait would be ten minutes while he set up a table, then when two people walked in about five minutes into our wait, he seated them immediately. The acoustics eek out a first place over the food for the worst aspect of this place. The din was deafening. Even when the crowd started to thin, carrying on a conversation was impossible. The waitress was visibly annoyed by the inability to speak to us. I felt sorry for her, she was one of the few bright spots in the evening. The squeeze from the excessive number of tables only exacerbates the problem. The food left much to be desired. I could have gotten something similar to Anteprimas calamari entree at Mia Francesca as an appetizer for half the price and it would have been twice as good, without all the chili pepper. The Striped Bass that was clumsily ""filleted"" at my table had so many bones in it it was almost inedible and came with an absurd little side dish of artichokes and onions that looked and tasted like it was seasoned with ketchup. Presentation was atrocious. The room -- hasn't the shabby chic, faux tuscan room been done to death? A real restaurateur would have designed a real space to enhance and complement the food. Bottom line, way overpriced and boring, boring, boring. Pros: waitress recommended a good wine Cons: acoustics, food prep and presentation more
